Millom & Broughton Agricultural Society Ltd Rules & Regulations of this Society. 1. That this Society be called or styled the Millom & Broughton, Agricultural Society Ltd. That it be considered established for the purpose of improving the breed of stock by the distributions of premiums, and should fund permits, of encouraging through the same means improvement in tillage of grasslands, the invention of improved implements of husbandry, and generally to improve agricultural practice and for the public benefit to advance education in the science of agriculture. 2. To promote agriculture for the public benefit and to such end generally to improve it in all its branches and encourage skill and industry in all its trades, crafts and professions connected with it. 3. To hold in pursuance of its main object an annual agricultural show provided the Society shall not be obliged to hold a show in any year in relation to which the Committee of the society shall resolve that the holding of such show is impractical or nor in the interests of the society. 4. To apply the income for charitable purposes or such charitable organisations or institutions to be determined by the committee. 5. That the Society shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer & Subscribers. 6. That the President, Vice President (non members of the Committee), Treasurer and Secretary by ex-officio members of the Committee and that the remaining number shall be elected at a Special meeting called for the purpose by majority of the members then present; and that a Chairman & Vice Chairman of such committee shall then be elected for the ensuring year (five of such committee to be quorum), and to five the day on which the show will be held. 7. The Directors of the Society are the persons holding the offices of Secretary, Treasurer, Chairman, Vice- Chairman, Safety officer and Show Field Director. 8. The Directors are also the Trustees of the Society. 9. That each person, on becoming a member of the Society shall pay to the secretary, Treasurer of some member of the committee, a sum of no less than 50p. Any person may coming a Vice President of the society by donating a sum of 20 or more. 10. That the annual Meeting shall be held at West Park, Broughton in Furness on Saturday the 25th August 20-18, for the Exhibition of stock, awarding premiums, and transacting any business connected with the affairs of the Society. 11. That the Committee shall have power to offer such premiums as they think best calculated to benefit the interest of agriculture generally, and particularly as regards to rearing of stock. 12. That the Committee appoint competent and disinterested person to determine upon the merits of the different animals etc, brought into competition, and who are to give their judgement accordingly. 13. That the Committee reserve to itself the power of withholding merit, and of giving premiums in every case where there appears great merit, although there may be only on candidate. 14. That all matches and sweepstakes entered into the meetings of the Society be inserted in the minutes, and be decided in the same manner as the prizes offered by the society. 15. Any subscriber disputing the age or qualifications of any animal exhibited mush make a written objection, with a deposit of 10 to the Secretary within three days from the day of the exhibitions, otherwise the objection will be considered invalid. 16. All animals entered for the competition to be the property of the exhibitors two months prior to the day of the Exhibition. 17. All animals entered for competition or otherwise on the show Ground to be penned or otherwise secured, and under control. 18. If any exhibitor, his servant or other persons having charge of any such animal, shall refuse to obey any directions of the stewards, or any of the society officers. Such animal or animals shall be immediately

4 disqualified from competing further. And shall be asked to leave the field. 19. The show, Officers, or servants, shall not be responsible for any accident, damage or loss however caused, that may occur to any exhibitor, or his servants or to any article, animal or property brought on to the show ground or while entering or leaving the show ground. Each exhibitor shall be solely responsible for any loss, injury to damage that may be done, or occasioned by, or arising from any machinery or article, or any animal or property exhibited by him, and it is a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall indemnity and hold harmless the show form and against, suits, expenses and claims on account of such damage or injury. 20. All entries for stock to be made in writing and given to the Secretary on or before Thursday 10th August printed for of entry to be had from the Secretary, and no entry will be taken except on such form. No entry accepted without entry fee. 21. All animals intended for exhibition to be on the Show Ground at or before 9am, and not to be removed before 3pm without the consent of the Chairman or vice chairman of the committee and any persons exhibiting with a diseased animal shall be subject to a penalty of 10; also those exhibiting sheep affected with foot rot are liable to a penalty of 50p. 22. That any animal which has been awarded a prize ticket must wear it until it leaves the field otherwise the prize will not be paid. 23. All prize money to be paid out at the discretion of the treasurer. 24. The charity in general meeting shall have power to alter, add or to repeal the rues and the trustees shall adopt such means as they think sufficient to bring to the notice of members of the charity all such rules which shall be binding on all members of the charity. Provided that no rule shall be inconsistent with or shall affect or repeal anything contained in the memorandum or articles. 25. All animals entering the Show field must be accompanied with the correct paperwork. 26. Hard hats (current standard) mist be work at all times when mounted and secured by chin straps. SPECIAL NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS The Society will NOT acknowledge the receipt of entries or entry fees. Numbers to be collected from Secretary s tent on Show Day. From Fully Brucella Accredited Herds Only PLEASE NOTE No Cattle Entries will be accepted after the closing date. DENNISON FAMILY TROPHY awarded to the most improved handler over the four shows. Marks awarded : 50% for handler. Points awarded as follows 1st 5, 2nd 4, 3rd 3. All other entrants 2. Points will be totalled from Ulverston, Cartmel, Broughton and Lowick Show. 60. ANY TYPE BEEF CALF, all calves under 1 yr old on Show Day. Handlers under 18 yrs old on Show Day. 61.
