3 FOREWORD THE ANHAY HERD John and Melanie Williams began The Anhay Herd of pedigree Herefords in years of selective, line breeding has culminated in this first production sale. Only good milking, regular breeding females of good conformation have been retained over the years. The best of the rear homebred bulls have been used at Anhay to tighten the line breeding. Stock bulls have been selected on conformation, temperament and breeding. Badlingham breeding in prominent in the stock bulls used. The farm and cattle have been managed organically since 1999 and have been run very commercially, the adult cattle living on grass or silage and the young stock having a little crimped grain as well. O F & G is the organic certification body. The cows and heifers are in calf to the home bred bull A.Maximus 571 or Roseglen Lad. Maximus is a lovelylong, dark bull with good conformation and hind quarters. Roseglen Lad was bred and shown successfully by F G Goodall of Dyfed in Wales and is sired by Badlingham Breage (one of the many great bulls to be bred by the exceptional herdsman, Mr Colin Clarke at Badlingham). Lisrace Loyalist, the sire of most of the heifers, was bred by Mr David Wilson of Northern Ireland. He was purchased for the market s record breaking sum of 5100 gns. Wenlock Jeeves (by Badlingham Beamer) features in most of the pedigrees and really left his mark. Anhay cattle were well known on the show circuit of the West country for many years, and won numerous Championships including The Royal Cornwall Show and the Devon County Show. Several of the cattle on offer are of show standard. Showing ceased with the foot and mouth outbreak combined with the conversion to organic production (age and health also played its part). HERD HEALTH The herd has been TB tested clear over the past 40 years and is in a 1 year testing area, the last test conducted on 4/10/16. INCALF WARRANTY All females running with the bulls will be PD prior to the sale and guaranteed incalf under the Society s Rules. EXPORT Any cattle purchased for export (including Northern Ireland) may return at the purchaser s expence to the home farm, Anhay, Helston, Cornwall, where they will be maintained FOC until 5 days after the earliest opportunity to re-test them, from which time a charge of per week, per head will be made. In all instances cattle purchased must be paid for on the day of the Sale and are at the risk of the purchaser from the fall of the hammer.
