1 RFU Area 2 Berkshire County RFU Quarterly Report - Quarter3 March 2017 RDO(s) Hannah Edwards 1. Retaining & Developing Current Players: CRC identified delivery support Tadley U11s, Redingensians U14s, Junior visits: Hungerford RFC, Reading Abbey RFC, Newbury Girls and Reading Girls. Adult support: Aldermaston RFC, Hungerford RFC, Berkshire Unicorns RFC, Thames Valley Vikings RFC and Shirehall RFC. Reading University currently have four male teams and are working hard towards a fifth team. The fifth team have attended 2 RFU Merit festivals across the area to allow for the appropriate competitive playing opportunities. The Berkshire RFU delivery team hosted an area Merit festival at Reading RFC to support the on-going transition of players to club. Coach mentoring and support in the Women s section with Rachael Chig and Duick Young has allowed for the transition of 5/6 women into local clubs Reading Abbey, Crowethorne RFC and Reading RFC. As well as an increased player pathway into the county set up where appropriate. 2. Recruiting New Players: Newbury Girls - Working in collaboration with the host clubs and local school networks we have hosted 5 Newbury Girls Festivals (Please see pictures below). Supporting both the U13 and U15 age groups transition. Delivery across the area from both RFU staff and club volunteers has allowed for an increase in momentum and take up from schools across the region with a number entering into the Berkshire School Games at the end of March. Club management and governance support in place to ensure quality environment and more visible presence within the club (Malcolm, Joe and Lee Goodall). With aspiring Berkshire coaches/volunteers being linked into the delivery (Lindsay James, Joe Harwood and Lewis Jones). Berkshire U13 Girls Festival Transition event co-ordinated via CB support (Danny Pratt) club volunteers and RFU staff to support transition of U13s rugby. 24 in attendance with 7 new players to Reading RFC the following Wednesday training. Players where supported with Berkshire t-shire which were received extremely well and food for a positive sign up experience. Windsor Girls Rugby Mentoring and coach education with volunteer coaches Kate, Sophie and Becky Davies. Sign posting into suitable development opportunities such as Level 1 refereeing and Level 2 coaching. Supporting quality transition experience t-shirts, club socks and food at a school transition event. CRC school delivery and integration of volunteer coaches to support consistency. With successful transition of 20 girls from Windsor girls school and 7 from Travelyn. Playing opportunities with festivals Reading RFC and Windsor RFC. (Please see pictures below) Aldermaston Return to Rugby Aldermaston RFC for the first time in four years put out a 2 nd team following the creative recruitment maximising the social skills of certain team members. The team consisted of 10 new players making their debut along with 3 returning players. Guest sessions to support retentions/coach development. The club recently hosted Coach Education courses Rugby Ready and Scrum Factory to capitalise on the potential volunteers. Aldermaston, Tadley, Thatcham and Newbury coaches attended. Inner Warrior Campaign Reading RFC Women s team where identified by the WRDO for the pilot scheme. There has been a high level of interest in the campaign, with all clubs with a women s section looking to utilise this recruitment tool which acts to open the invitation to interested players regardless of experience. Strong social media presence has supported the clubs interest. 3. Retaining & Recruiting High Quality Coaches, Volunteers & Referees: Tadley RFC Coach the coaches linking CRC knowledge, experienced internal coaches and age grade best practice. 30 coaches from within the club attended. Coach education: Rugby Ready Newbury RFC, Redingensians RFC and Aldermaston RFC. Scrum Factory - Aldermaston RFC and Maidenhead RFC. Tag U8 Newbury RFC. Ruck and Maul Maidenhead RFC. Referee Level 1 BCA.
2 Berkshire Coach Engagement: Lee Goodall, Steve Allan and Julian Rainford as Coach Educators supporting the delivery of CPD to fulfil Berkshire s demand. Duncan Jones linked into school delivery and girls festival engagement. Lindsay Davies linked into social inclusion project. Seb Reynolds linked into coach local school delivery. Coaches linked into Berkshire School Games and RFU festival support. 4. Effective & Efficient Facilities: RFU AGP at Redingensian RFC - Initial LRP meeting attended by clubs and educational institutes within the LRP catchment. Initial buy in high with discussions around maximising use. Completion of the NatWest Rugby force selection working with Jason Bowers and Steve Cullen to identify suitable projects. NatWest Rugby Force workshop location set (Bracknell RFC) and invitational letters sent to selected clubs. 5. Effective & Efficient Management & Governance: Working through the accreditation process with: Hungerford RFC, Aldermaston RFC, Newbury RFC Bracknell RFC and Tadley RFC. Club Support meeting with RDO: Aldermaston RFC, Hungerford RFC, Tadley RFC, Bracknell RFC, Thames Valley Vikings, Reading Renegades RFC, Berkshire Unicorns RFC, Newbury RFC, Crowethorne RFC, Redingensians RFC and Reading RFC. GMS Workshop support: Maidenhead on-going, Newbury securing dates, Tadley supporting up-skilling and Aldermaston supporting duplicates/information update. 6. Integration with the Local Community: Get Berkshire Active Berkshire School games interaction, reflections and club transition. Get Berkshire Active Volunteer transition to club outlets. London Irish HITZ programme linking with social inclusion projects. 1. Retaining & Developing Current Players: Reading University Ladies summer touch support. CRC school delivery for Summer School Games participation. Planning and liaising with Clubs and education institutes for 2017/2018 season support playing opportunities. 2. Recruiting New Players: Reading Uni Summer touch recruitment. Summer school games planning and delivery. 02 Touch/Touch programme support Thames Valley Vikings, Thatcham RFC, Tadley RFC and Reading RFC. 3. Retaining & Recruiting High Quality Coaches, Volunteers & Referees: Coaching Rugby in Secondary School Windsor RFC and Newbury RFC. CPD Rugby Ready BCA and Scrum Factory BCA. Bracknell Rugby Ready, Scrum Factory, Tag course. Newbury U10s CPD. Level 2 P500 at BCA. 4. Effective & Efficient Facilities: Energy Workshop linked with Jason Bowers Date TBC.
