Last chance to book your Comedy for a Cause tickets now at see details on the poster below Standing in again as Sergeant Ian Chadwick invited President Ron to open our meeting. Ron invited Sharon Anderson Warne to provide our invocation while PP Greg Byers delivered our loyal toast including toasting the international club of London which was the first chartered Rotary Club outside the USA. It was Chartered in 1911 and meets at the Chesterfield Mayfair hotel in London. Ron welcomed our guests including Assistant Governor Anne Reid, Assistant Governor Elect Elizabeth McCormick, our RYPEN Participants Charli Brown and Alisha Franklin along with Ian Metherall, our guest speaker, and his wife Rosie. Our meeting was handed to chairman Hugh Lawrence, who called for reports : Secretary Fiona McCarthy advised of the upcoming Volunteer week function at the Salvation Army Hall in Seymour. Tickets were still available. Our Exchange student Ben had provided a 3 month update via and continued his life changing adventure also our inbound student has commenced communicating with us in preparation for her arrival. Fiona also advised that our changeover invites would be issued shortly. Membership Chair PP Mark Dossor reminded everyone to get their tickets booked for Comedy for a Cause which is now only 5 days away. Assistance for the night was requested. Rotarian Alan Walton advised that BowelScan activity would continue for extended 10 days and close on 8 th June. New Generations chair Jane Challis introduced our RYPEN participants Charli Brown and Alisha Franklin, pictured with Jane, who shared a report on their weekend at Lake Nillahcootie. The weekend commenced with goal setting activity and progressed to making friends, rock climbing, a scavenger hunt and educational sessions including drug and alcohol education. Both girls agreed that it was a tiring but exhilarating experience and thanked our club for their support. Assistant Governor Anne Reid acknowledged our clubs Can do Attitude while introducing Elizabeth McCormick as our Assistant Governor Elect. Seymour Bear welcomed them both warmly.

3 Following a themed MCG meal of burgers, fries and good old dimmies our Chairman introduced our guest speaker Ian Metharall. Ian was accompanied by his wife Rosie whose family had once owned Rupertswood in Sunbury, generally accepted as the birthplace of crickets Ashes, played for in Test series between Australia and England. The tiny urn which houses the ashes of a bail, signifies the death of England cricket following a defeat by the Aussies and is insured for 13 million English pounds. It is housed at the Lords cricket ground and will never leave England. While Ian emphasised that he not a cricket historian he believes his research confirms that there is in fact a second bail burnt and, in his possession, turned into a knife the second bail[ pictured below] which was presented to the Lady Janet Clarke by Ivo Bligh, Captain of the English Cricket Team and held by the Clarke Family since presented to Lady Janet 1883 during the Englishmen s visit in the summer of 1882/3. This follows a spontaneous cricket match between the visiting English team and who ever could be assembled from properties employees. Ian presented to us enhanced photographic evidence of the teams visit as well as The Barlow trophy, presented to Richard Barlow for his bowling in the 1883 Sydney match that won the series for England and recommissioned as a knife, the other bail, was also on display [ pictured left] Ian advised following the meeting that he had purchased the Barlow trophy at auction in The story is fascinating one that is made even more incredible by the unwillingness of either Cricket Australia or the MCC in England to acknowledge these historic cricket relics. Why is it so? To add to the controversy our Chairman Hugh stated that during a recent visit to Fiji and a quiet beer With Aussie cricket legend Dean Jones, Jones stated that the second bail was fallicy! Ralph Baker was got for the spring in his step which had been evident while Mariam had been away. Back after a long break Ray Brown couldn t avoid being fined as was Sharon for requiring honey in her tea! Alan was whacked for take drugs while Mark was hit for his Thanks for the Memories retelling of Bryan Tehan s history. Not sure why Ruth was fined for winking at Greg or was it Greg winking at Ruth? Sue crossfined herself by retelling her recent car key drama and Fred and Tony fined themselves for not watching the royal wedding Comedy for a Cause 25 May. Bookings now open. 4 Sue Goette won the opportunity to spin for our jackpot of $180 tonight picking up a mammoth $25 for her effort.
