2 Dear Chapter Leader/Organizer, Thank you for participating in this march as we call for Police Reform in this country. We anticipate thousands to convene on FREEDOM PLAZA (13 th and Pennsylvania Ave, NW) to participate in the National March against Police Violence. The March and Rally in Washington, DC takes place Saturday, December 13, 2014 beginning at 10:30 AM. We hope this guide is useful to assist you in making this experience as easy as possible for you, the coordinator and all those traveling to DC with you. We are expecting over 100 buses from various parts of the country to arrive into DC. IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A BUS PERMIT PLEASE SEND AN TO REV. TOON AT toon@nationalactionnetwork.net WITH THE CONFIRMED NUMBER OF BUSES YOU HAVE COMING. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED YOUR PERMIT THERE IS NOT NEED TO CALL OR . 3 BUS COORDINATORS INSTRUCTIONS All bus coordinators must have the following information for everyone riding on their bus: Passenger names Addresses Cell phone numbers addresses Emergency contact numbers This information should be collected the day your bus departs. This information must be turned over to the lead Marshall that will be at your assigned parking location. A copy of the bus manifest should also be left with someone in your city who is not traveling to DC and who should be at a number throughout the day for the field team to call in case of an emergency. Buses should not pull off without having a complete manifest and an emergency contact sheet for each person on the bus, including the coordinators. 1. All bus coordinators should identify 5 passengers on their bus to serve as marshals for the march. Marshalls will be identified by wearing a red arm band or red vest. Marshalls must be prepared at 10:00am for a briefing at THE WILSON BUILDING, CITY HALL adjacent to FREEDOM PLAZA (ADDRESS). Coordinators please forward all Marshall contact information to Rev. Toon at toon@nationalactionnetwork.net. 2. All bus coordinators should provide a list of all persons travelling on your bus that needs ADA assistance due to immobility, please provide each person s name, contact information and special needs by Thursday, December 11, 2013 at 5PM to cwhite@nationalactionnetwork.net or toon@nationalactionnet work.net. 3. All bus coordinators should ensure ALL passengers have your (the coordinator s) cell phone number.
4 4. All bus coordinators should establish an emergency meeting point upon arrival at your designated parking location. This location will be established in case of an emergency and/or in case a passenger does not know where their bus is parked. We recommend using the a permanent fixture such as building, tree, hydrant and the location you will return to in case you do not know where your bus is parked. Bus Parking PARKING INSTRUCTIONS: There are three (3) designated curbside parking areas and ALL registered buses will be issued a permit to park their bus in one of the 3 locations. There will be Marshalls assigned along the streets where buses will be parked and ONLY buses that display a National Action Network PARKING PERMIT will be allowed to park in those designated areas. Parking permits will be issued for 3rd St., NW between Pennsylvania Ave., NW, 300 block of Maryland Ave., SW, Constitution Ave., NW between 7th St., NW and 14th St., NW, Independence Ave., SW between 4th St., SW and 7th St., SW. ADA drop off is located on 13th St., NW & E St., NW. Only ADA Buses can drop off at this location. ADA pick up is in the 300 block of Maryland Ave., SW between 3rd St., SW and Independence Ave., SW. For those people parked on Independence Ave. SW wanting to take metro to the march location the nearest metro is Smithsonian. You can take any train towards VIENNA FAIRFAX- GMU and get off at Federal Triangle Station.
5 The fare will be $ 2.75 for a single trip and $ 1.55 for a single trip with a senior/disabled/medicare discount. MARSHALL INSTRUCTION: Oversee a specific zone along the march route Be responsible for crowd control; assist in March navigation. Ensure March movement maintains fluidity. Marshalls whose names that have been identified by the bus coordinator should meet at 10:00AM in front of the Wilson building (Pennsylvania Ave, NW and 14 th Street, NW) which is directly adjacent to Freedom Plaza (1455 Pennsylvania Ave). 7 GENERAL INFORMATION Getting to DC We anticipate over 10,000 people at FREEDOM PLAZA for the March. This will make it difficult for commuters to park in and around the rally and March site. We recommend the use of mass transit. Persons driving into Washington DC via car or van are encouraged to find parking lots or Metro Park and Ride locations to facilitate easier movement through the city. Due to the expected turnout, there will be several street closures and limited parking in and around the U.S. Capitol. ADA & Special Assistance There will be ADA drop at 13 th and Pennsylvania Avenue on the South side of Freedom Plaza. You will also board your bus at shuttles and other services for persons with disabilities or those that require special assistance. There will be mobility shuttle that take persons with disabilities to/from the RFK stadium to the Metro Rail. Persons with disabilities are asked to travel to Foggy Bottom Station and take a shuttle to the Freedom Plaza. There is an ADA entrance at the Freedom Plaza. The following items are prohibited on the MARCH ROUTE: Balloons, alcohol, glass bottles, flammable liquids, firearms, and weapons (things designed or used for inflicting bodily harm or physical damage). Q. ARE CHAIRS ALLOWED? A. Yes; chairs and coolers are allowed at the March. Please be aware that we may face inclement weather on December 13, There will be port- a- johns along the area. Q.
