1 Stephen F. Austin State University Department of Agriculture and Beefmaster Breeder s United Fall 2010 Update
2 Report on Beefmaster Heifer Project Stephen F. Austin State University The committee met on May 4 to look the heifers over and make decisions for matings. The first group of heifers was artificially inseminated (AI ed) on May 13 and the second group was AI ed on June 3. Each group was observed for estrus and AI ed a second time. Seven Beefmaster embryos were transferred on May 20. We confirmed 5 ET pregnancies. The clean up bull was turned in on June 18. Dr. Perkins traveled to SFA on July 20th to ultrasound the heifers for pregnancy. He also classified the older heifers. We would like to thank everyone for helping to get this program up and running in just 4 short months. The idea for the project began mid-january and by mid-may all heifers were in place. Wow! Thanks for all your support. Thanks to our committee members which include: Paul Jopling, Lonnie Crawford, Jerry Davis, and Steve Emmons. Attached is a list of the heifer donations from individuals and how many heifers each person donated. Also find a list of the semen and embryos donated and the use of a clean up bull.
