The Indians cashed in on an FIU turnover when freshman tailback Cedrick Wilkerson barreled in from one yard out for the touchdown with 10:05 remaining in the opening quarter. The Indians put together a 10-play, 67-yard drive that made the score 14-0 when quarterback Corey Leonard scrambled left and found the end zone from seven yards out with 6:01 remaining in the first half. Following another FIU turnover to start the second half, the Indian offense needed just four plays to find the end-zone, getting the touchdown when quarterback Travis Hewitt scored on a draw with 9:53 to play in the third for the 21-0 Arkansas State advantage. Leonard's touchdown helped the Indians overcome five turnovers in Warhawk territory, and kept unbeaten in Sun Belt play at 2-0. Arkansas State improved to 3-2 overall, and stretched its Indian Stadium win streak to seven games with the win. With the loss, ULM dropped to 1-4 overall, 0-2 in league play. 's game-winning drive began at the Indian 38 with 5:20 remaining. Leonard hooked up with tailback Cedric Wilkerson on the second play of the drive for a first down at the Warhawk 38, then hit wideout Gary Vincent for another first down on third-and-nine at the ULM 21 with just under four minutes remaining. Tailback Reggie Arnold picked up another first down on a run to the Warhawk 11 with 2:55 remaining, and two plays later, Leonard did the honors on a draw play from nine yards out. Arauco was good on the point-after for the 10-6 lead. ULM took over at its 20 with 1:58 to play and Arkansas State Louisiana-Monroe drove as far as the 29, but the Indian defense forced four straight incomplete passes to preserve the win. Leonard led the Indians in rushing with 48 yards on seven carries, and completed 13-of-26 passes for 130 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions. (10/14/06) With the clock reading :00, Arkansas State receiver Patrick Higgins jumped high in the end zone among a throng of Memphis defenders to catch a 53-yard pass from quarterback Corey Leonard to lead the Indians to a come-from-behind victory over Memphis in the Liberty Bowl. Higgins had two catches on the day for 79 yards. Running back Cedric Wilkerson, subbing for an injured Reggie Arnold, surprised the Memphis defense by picking up 116 yards on 23 carries, 74 of which were in the second quarter. Leonard finished the day completing 12 of 23 passes for 219 yards and two interceptions. After battling to a halftime tie, the Indians scored touchdowns on their first three possessions of the second half - all one-yard runs from Arnold - to distance themselves from the Mean Green, while 's defense limited North Texas to just 94 yards after the break. Arnold's first touchdown capped a 77-yard drive on the Indians' initial possession of the second half. His second score followed an interception by Indian safety Khayyam Burns late in the third quarter, and his final touchdown came with 9:44 remaining in the game, giving the Indians a lead that would prove to be the final score. Following Arnold's final touchdown, North Texas drove deep into territory, picking up a first-and-goal at the Arkansas State six, but the Indian defense slammed the door for good when it stopped the Mean Green on four straight downs, including a fourth-and-goal from the one to kill the drive. From there, the Indian offense ran out the clock to seal the win. Offensively, Leonard finished the night with 264 yards of total offense, a career high. Jones also posted career-best numbers on the night finishing the game with three receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown. (10/28/06) Turnovers helped to bring Arkansas State s five-game Sun Belt Conference win streak to a halt as the Indians were shut out, 29-0, by Florida Atlantic at Lockhart Stadium. Turnovers plagued the Indians throughout the game with quarterbacks Corey Leonard and Travis Hewitt throwing five combined interceptions. Most were tipped by FAU defenders and fell into the arms of Owl players. In addition, fumbled twice and lost one. It was the lowest offensive output this season for the Tribe with 104 yards of total offense, including six yards rushing and 98 yards passing. The game got off to a rocky start for when Florida Atlantic had a 21-play drive that chewed up nearly eight minutes off the clock and resulted in a 21-yard field goal. On the Owls opening drive of the second quarter, B.J. (11/4/06) Sixth-ranked Auburn was too much for Arkansas State as the Tigers defeated the Indians 27-0 before 78,493 fans at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. Despite being intercepted twice by the defense, Auburn quarterback Brandon Cox completed 12 of 21 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns, including a 13-yard strike to wideout Courtney Taylor on the Tigers first possession to give Auburn an early 7-0 lead. Auburn added a pair of field goals from John Vaughn to take a 13-0 lead at the half. The other two Tiger touchdowns came on a one-yard run from fullback Carl Stewart, and a 19-yard pass from Cox to Stewart, both in the third quarter. Junior Montis Harrison, and freshman Daylan Walker both notched their first career interceptions when they picked off a pair of Cox passes, and linebacker Ben Owens also grabbed his first career interception when he intercepted Auburn quarterback Blake Field late in the game. s best chance to get on the scoreboard came in the fourth quarter, when the Indians drove from the one to the Auburn three, but a field goal attempt on fourth and goal went awry when holder Brett Shrable could not hold on to a high snap from Nick Emfinger. Offensively, quarterback Corey Leonard completed nine of 17 passes for 61 yards, while tailbacks Reggie Arnold and Chris James rushed for 37 yards each, and wideout Kevin Jones added four catches for 34 yards. In addition to the three interceptions by the defense, junior Khayyam Burns added eight tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, while Jonathan Najm and Tyrell Johnson added five stops each. Middle Tennessee jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter before got on the board with a 33- yard field goal from Josh Arauco with 4:58 remaining in the second quarter, then blocked a Blue Raider field goal on the final play of the half to swing the momentum in the Indians favor heading into the locker room. The Trojans led with 3:58 remaining as the Indians were driving downfield. With fourth down and eight yards to go and 1:36 left in the game, quarterback Corey Leonard scrambled 11 yards and picked up the first down to keep the drive alive. As the Tribe offense continued to move, Wilkerson took advantage of a third-and-goal situation to bull it in from the one capping off a 70-yard drive. Leonard ran in the two-point conversion to cement s lead. When play resumed Arkansas State Troy and with eight seconds showing on the clock, Troy quarterback Omar Haugabook threw a long pass which was intercepted by s Darren Toney to run out the clock and seal the win for the Indians. Redshirt freshman kicker Josh Arauco played a huge role in s win by connecting on three field goals including a 21, 22, and 36-yarder. Leonard, a redshirt freshman from Covington, La., ended the night hitting 13 of 26 pass attempts for 188 yards and two TDs. He also rushed 20 times for 76 yards. Running back Reggie Arnold led with 90 yards rushing on 19 attempts. Defensively, safety Tyrell Johnson had nine tackles while linebacker Josh Williams and safety Khayyam Burns each had eight.
