4 NORTHLANDcarclub stuff CLUB NIGHT discussions Crows Nest Road hillclimb organiser is Neil Rodgers. If you can help out at event please contact Neil. Someone will need to bring port-a-loo out to event from Hirepool. Another date setting meeting for NZ is being held on 12 th Nov With the addition of tyres placed on the corners at Doctors Hill Road hillclimb, new hill records will be set to allow for this. One set of records without tyres on corners and one with. Cade Wilson can now do authority cards for your car. Car with no roll cage please read the supplementary regulations or contact the clerk of the course / organiser of the event. Standard cars with no roll cages may not be selected to run at particular hilllcimbs. The Northland Car Club would like to welcome those new members that have joined The Club since the beginning of the season. A motorist runs a red light and is photographed by an automated police camera. In the mail a short time later, he receives a photo of his car committing the infraction and a citation for $60. Instead of paying the fine, the motorist mails the police department a photograph of three 20-dollar bills. Several days later, he gets a letter back from the police department. Inside is a photograph of a pair of handcuffs.

6 NORTHLANDcarclub rulebook CHANGES The Special General Meeting was held on 24 th October 2012 and the below proposals were all PASSED. these will now be added/amended to the membership rule book. Proposals Are: 1. Section 2, Paragraph (g) Remove the words (provide a garage for the use of members,) 2. General, Change the words (his & him) to (his/her & him/her) 3. Section 7, Remove paragraphs a, b, c & replace with the following paragraph s. a. An applicant must complete the NCC application form for membership giving his/her name, address and occupation. The applicant then needs to get two club member nominees, one of these nominees must be a committee member, the membership application can then be accepted by the Club Treasurer. b. Alternatively (if the applicant does not know a club member for nominee) the applicant can have the application accepted at a club night by introducing themselves to a committee member for nomination to be accepted by the President or Vice President. c. Once accepted the name s and address(es) of the new members will be entered into the minutes of that meeting as New Members. 4. Section 6, paragraph (f) change the words (3 days) to (7 days). 5. Section 9, paragraph (a) the words (and addresses) to be removed. Paragraph (b) all words except (every member shall be entitled to the use of a club badge) to be removed. Paragraph (c) to be removed in its entirety. Paragraph (e) the words (these rules) to be changed to (this rule book). 6. Section 12, paragraph (c) change (A.N.Z.C.C) to (MSNZ). Paragraph (f) change the words (the A.N.Z.C.C incorporated or subsequent body) to (Northland Car Club or MSNZ). 7. Addition of the following to section 9, g. Each Club Member shall receive a club magazine. h. Each Club Member will get points for participating in events run by the Northland Car Club. Points are accumulated for each event type, eg. Motorkhanas, Autocrosses, Hillclimbs, Rallysprints, Sprints, Trials. And all events entered into get points that count towards Club Championship. Points are as follows: Overall Motorkhana s, Autocrosses, Hillclimbs, Rallysprints, Streetsprints, ¼ Mile Sprints, Trials. 1 st -25, 2 nd -22, 3 rd -20, 4 th -18, 5 th -16, 6 th -14, 7 th -12, 8 th -10, 9 th -9, 10 th -8, 11 th -7, 12 th -6, 13 th -5, 14 th -4, 15 th -3, 16 th -2, competed and finished lower than 16 th 2, entered but did not complete event-1.

7 Overall Club Champ Ladies, overall Motorkhana ladies, overall Club Champ Juniors, overall Junior Motorkhanas, Hillclimb Car Classes are allocated these points: 1 st -15, 2 nd -12, 3 rd -10, 4 th - 9, 5 th -8, 6 th -7, 7 th -6, 8 th -5, 9 th -4, 10 th -3, 11 th -2, 12 th and lower get 1 point. Official helpers at events (at the organisers discretion) 1 point. i. A member(s) that has not renewed his/her subs by the next season, 1 st September, will not receive points until he/she renews their subs. (refer to section 8 paragraph (d) in current rule book) 8. To separate clubnight from monthly committee meetings to allow committee to do business more efficiently & make confidential club business decisions. 8 NORTHLANDcarclub supplementaryregs CROWS NEST RD, HILLCLIMB 1. JURISDICTION This event is held under the National Sporting Code of Motorsport New Zealand and appendix five schedule C. This is a clubsport event and open to members of Motorsport New Zealand affiliated clubs. 2. OFFICIALS OF THE EVENT ORGANISER Neil Rodgers (h) (w) MSNZ Steward Dave Wood Permit No. 3. THE EVENT Crows Nest Rd, Hukerenui, 2.5km gravel Sunday 18 th November ENTRIES Accepted on the day. Entry fee $ DOCUMENTATION & SCRUTINEERING am. Late entry fee after 9.30 add 50% to entry fee ($90), unless organiser advised. Please bring your rake or shovel to documentation, failure to do so will result in a fine. 6. EVENT PROGRAMME Drivers briefing at 9.45am vicinity of start line, followed by an untimed practice run or familiarisation convoy at organisers discretion. 7. COMPETITOR REQUIREMENTS In signing the entry form competitors are deemed to fully understand the relevant articles and regulations as contained in the current Motorsport manual. It is mandatory for all competing cars to have a homologated roll cage. A clubsport or higher grade licence is required. Under age drivers (12 15yrs) with an authorized minor competition licence must be supervised by a passenger who has held a full civil licence for a minimum of two years. It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that all passengers sign the indemnity form prior to participation (at the start line). 8. DIRECTIONS Head north on S.H.1 to Hukerenui (30km), 100m past Hukerenui garage, turn left into Crows Nest Rd, 2km to quarry road entrance, pit area on right hand side of road.

9 Rally of the North proves a tough challenge Hawke s Bay s Stewart Taylor claimed another Rally of the North this month, edging out defending champion Dylan Turner in testing Pahia conditions. Top seed Taylor in his Evo 10 - snuck ahead in the second special stage and never looked like conceding, despite strong surges from Turner. His defining moment came in Stage 4 aptly named Taylor where he opened up a 44- second gap, which proved a bridge too far for any rival to overcome. The conditions were pretty tricky early on and we were shaping up for a good battle, but we knew that Stage 4 was a good chance to open a gap, said Taylor. After that, it was mostly a matter of making sure we got to the finish. Stage 6, at 31 km, was another chance for people to claw back some time, so we attacked it. Otherwise, we pretty much drove down the middle of the road. Turner finished a close second, with Geof Argyle in third both driving an Evo 8. Evo s were dominant throughout, claiming the top six places of the 180 km rally. The fight for 2WD honours turned into a battle of attrition, with both Justin Glavish (Toyota Starlet) and Craig Stevens (Ford Escort) retiring in the first stage, with engine and gearbox problems respectively, and Craig Marshall (Peugeot 206) leaving the road on Stage 2. The monster Stage 4 saw Brent Taylor (Toyota Corolla) leave the road - and not for the last time in that day - as well as diff failure for Tony McConachy (Toyota Starlet). Meanwhile, Stage 5 took care of Neil Allport (Ford Escort) and David Wright (Nissan Pulsar), who had set the 2WD pace all day, leaving Paul de Rose in his Mitsubishi Mirage to take the honours, ahead of David Ralph (Toyota Starlet) and Kayne Barrie in the unique BMW 550i. 10 NORTHLANDcarclub rally of thenorth Neil Simpson just hopes to finish Rally of the North NORTHERN ADVOCATE - Thursday, October 11, :16 Among the rookie drivers lining up at the start of the Rally of the North in Paihia this Saturday will be first-timer Neil Simpson in his 1985 Toyota Corolla. The Kerikeri builder - whose co-driver is the fittingly named Allister Driver of Okaihau - joined the Northland Car Club a couple of years ago after years of following the sport. After competing in many a hill climb, Neil has decided to make 2012 the year he steps up to a full-day rally. He's hoping to get some seat time and experience on Saturday. "I'll try to get into a comfortable pace and finish the day. You can't drive at ten-tenths all day, you wouldn't last." "I just hope the car and I make it to the finish," Simpson quipped. Although it is his first time in the driver's seat, he was part of the service crew for Kingsley Thompson's Mitsubishi Evo in last year's event. Co-driver and fellow builder Allister Driver has lost count of the rallies he has competed in - he has driven the Rally of the North three times - so Simpson is hoping some of that experience will rub off. Meanwhile, Team Dilusi supporters will be disappointed not to see "hell pilot" Kingsley Thompson this year. "We were going to and just decided not to, sadly," Thompson said. "We have the car for sale, as we're looking to build a new one for next year. We have a couple of prospective buyers and I know what would happen if I took her out for 'one last skid' - Murphy would come and bite me," he joked, referring to "Murphy's Law". The event has more than 180km of special stages, in a roughly clockwise circuit around the Mid North, linked by 260km of touring stages where competitors must obey all road rules. The start and finish are at Paihia, the route goes as far south as Twin Bridges, south of Kaikohe, and north to Taratara, north of Kaeo. Bucking recent trends, the event also has service parks at the end of most stages, rather than one central service park. Spokesman Simon Bell said that helped attract newcomers and experienced competitors alike to the Rally of the North. "Rallying is all about an adventure and this event is a real adventure, not just for the competitors but the service crews as well," he said. "The stage mileage is quite high but I think that adds to this event by making it a real challenge. By the time you get to the end, you know you've done a solid day's work behind the wheel." * The Northlander with the best chance of a podium finish in Saturday's Rally of the North is the eighth-seeded Carl Adnitt of Dargaville in his Subaru Impreza. A few places behind him in the rankings is his father Doug Adnitt (co-driver Tony Marbbett) in a Subaru STI; Whangarei drivers on the start list are Rodney Langdon (co-driver Julie Pepper, Subaru WRX), James Langdon (co-driver Adam Nicholson, Mitsubishi Mirage), Dermott Malley (co-driver Linz Malley, Ford Fiesta), Cade Wilson (co-driver Mark Briogford, Subaru WRX) and Andy Smith (co-driver Colin Smith, Toyota Starlet). Kaitaia's Jay Sharp and co-driver Jason Tepene only entered on Tuesday after finally managing to repair their car after a spectacular wipe-out in the Whangarei rally earlier this year.

Thanks to those that have filled it out so far. A not-too-bright but beautiful blonde was driving home one night when she was caught in a terrible storm. The hailstones were as big as golf balls, and her car was dented badly. Next day at the auto shop, a repairman decided to have a little fun at her expense. "To fix the dents in the body," he said, "drive home, park the car, and when the tailpipe is cool, get down on your knees and blow really hard into the tailpipe, and the dents will pop out. Later, a girlfriend of the blonde is driving by and sees her friend on her knees, blowing hard into the tailpipe. She asks what's going on and is told the story. The girlfriend laughs. "Well, duhhh! You need to roll up the windows first, silly!"
