Caramo, who entered with a threegame losing streak, blanked Corpus Christi over the first six frames, inducing 12 groundball-outs. With the Naturals ahead 4-1, singles by Nick Tanielu and J.D. Davis opened the seventh and forced Caramo from the game. Tim Hill then issued a walk to Conrad Gregor but coaxed a double play to minimize the bases-loaded threat. Corpus Christi was forced to settle for one run. The Hooks hit into three twin-killings on the night, going 0-for-11 with men in scoring position. Hooks lefty Evan Grills looked sharp to start, but ran into two-out trouble in the third. Corey Toups walked and Alfredo Escalera singled, setting the stage for Schwindel s three-run poke, his third homer in the last four games. Grills responded by recording five consecutive outs. The run was halted when speedster Terrance Gore laid down a bunt base hit. Toups capitalized by driving a double down the left-field line for a 4-0 Northwest Arkansas edge. Grills dispatched the next five hitters and Kyle Smith struck out three over three scoreless innings of relief. 2 PAGE 2 WITH GUSTO: RHP Yandel Gustave has been promoted to Houston, the Astros announced this afternoon. The move comes in the wake of OF Carlos Gomez being designated for assignment. Gustave was 2-2 with a 3.71 ERA and 3 saves in 41 games for Triple-A Fresno this year, striking out 52 against 18 walks in 51.0 innings. He did not yield a home run, holding the Pacific Coast League to a.226 batting average. Gustave has pitched scoreless, hitless ball in his last 3 assignments (4.0 IP) while fashioning a 1.38 ERA in 9 July outings. A 2015 Mid & Postseason Texas League All-Star, Gustave went 5-2 with a 2.15 ERA in 46 games for the Hooks last season. He led the league in games finished (38) and ranked 2nd in the circuit in saves, logging 20 in 24 opportunities. Gustave did not allow an earned run in 18 consecutive outings from June 3 to August 11. The 23-year-old right-hander is to become the 8th former Hook to make his Major League debut this year. Corpus Christi has now graduated 86 players to the big leagues. GURRIEL DEBUTS: IF Yulieski Gurriel went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his Hooks debut last night. Gurriel, a prized free agent signed by the Astros on July 16, is batting 3rd and playing 3rd base tonight. He joins the club after going 6-for-14 (.429) with 2 doubles, 1 home run and 9 RBIs in 4 games for High-A Lancaster. Gurriel belted a grand slam and drove in 5 runs Sunday vs. Modesto. Prior to his California League stint, he worked in 2 Gulf Coast League games, going 2-for-7 with a double. One of the most celebrated players from Cuba, Gurriel was an Olympian in 2014 and represented his country in all 3 World Baseball Classic Tournaments. The 32-year-old was also part of Cuban championship teams at the Pan American Games, Central American Games, International Cup and Caribbean Series. Gurriel appeared in parts of 15 seasons for Sancti Spiritus ( ) and Industriales ( ) of Cuba s National Series. He finished the 2014 campaign in Japan s Central League, playing for the Yokohama Bay Stars. In his career, Gurriel hit.335 with 250 home runs, 1,018 RBIs, 121 stolen bases and a.997 OPS. Last year, he batted.500 with 20 doubles, 15 home runs and 51 RBIs in 49 games for Industriales. PACKING A PUNCH: In 4 of the last 5 games, Ramon Laureano has opened the club s offensive proceedings with an extra-base hit. Laureano tripled to begin the home first last night. In Midland, doubles Thursday and Saturday bookended his first career lead-off homer run Friday night. Laureano hit in the No. 3 spot Sunday, going 0-for-4. The 22-year-old from Santo Domingo, DR, is batting.283 with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs and 5 RBIs in 15 games since being promoted from High-A Lancaster.
