1 San Antonio Missions (12-19, 43-58) at Corpus Christi Hooks (16-15, 64-37) Tuesday, July 28, 2015 Whataburger Field Corpus Christi, TX 7:05 p.m. ON THE RECORD: Home Road Series 6-1 Sweeps L 1 Streak 3-2 Last Last 10 ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Hooks let a 4-0 lead slip away Monday night as the Missions, who plated 8 runs in the 4th inning, steamrolled to a 13-7 victory at Whataburger Field. Lefty Brian Holmes cruised through the first 3 innings, limiting San Antonio to a pair of base runners while striking out 5. The first 6 Missions reached to begin the 4th, culminating with Griff Erickson s three-run home run to left field. One out later, Luis Domoromo went deep to right field, putting SA in front 7-4. Aaron West entered in relief and surrendered Benji Gonzalez before Hunter Renfroe cracked a sac fly to cap the inning. The Missions authored 4 more extra-base hits to close out the evening, including a 2-run homer from Yeison Asencio in the 6th. Corpus Christi jumped out to a quick start against Justin Hancock. Brett Phillip s lead-off pop-fly double paved the way toward a bases-loaded chance for A.J. Reed, who hit the ball sharply but bounced into a double play. Colin Moran made it 2-0 via an RBI double to right-center. Roberto Pena began the 2nd with a walk and wound up scoring on a 2-out single off the bat of Jed Lowrie. Reed was next and made a strong bid for a home run but Tyson Gillies made a leaping catch at the left-field wall, robbing CC of 3 runs. Reed did go deep in the 4th. His solo shot to right-center pulled the Hooks to within 3. 2 PAGE 2 I-37 SERIES: San Antonio has been Corpus Christi s toughest opponent this year, going 8-9 against the Hooks. The Missions are also the only club to post a winning record (5-4) at Whataburger Field this year. Last night, San Antonio batted at a.405 clip while notching 5 doubles and 3 homers in the 13-run output. San Antonio scored 21 total runs in the prior 8 contests at Whataburger Field, recording 12 doubles and 6 long balls to go along with a.246 average. The Missions posted a 3.00 ERA in those games. GO DEEP: 1B A.J. Reed belted his MiLB leading 27th home run last night, upping the Hooks dinger count to 20 in the last 11 games. The club s 20 home runs are 1st in the minor leagues during this period. BRUISED & BATTERED: The Mission s 8-run 4th last night accounted for the most damage against the Hooks in a single frame this year. San Antonio fell 1 run shy of the most allowed by Corpus Christi in Frisco scored 14 times in a 1-run extra-inning loss to the Hooks on May 16 at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Hooks pitchers have struggled in July, logging a 4.91 ERA and.271 BAA while yielding 1.08 home runs per game. Over the first 3 months of the season, Corpus Christi s pitchers owned a 3.04 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, permitting 0.63 HR per contest. The club s ERA was tops in Double-A during that span LOWRIE REHAB REPORT: Astros IF Jed Lowrie is 3-for-10 with a double and 2 RBIs in 4 rehab assignments with the Hooks. He has played 22 innings in the field, recording 2 putouts and 1 assist while committing 1 error in 4 chances at 3rd base. On April 27, Lowrie tore ligaments in his right thumb while sliding into home plate at Petco Park in San Diego. He went 2-for-3 with a double and solo home run that night. Returning to Houston as a free agent on a 3-year contract, Lowrie was off to a strong start with the Astros, batting.300 with 11 runs scored, 4 doubles, 4 home runs and 12 RBIs in 18 games. He had hit safely in 4 of his last 5 contests, going 8-for-17 with 6 runs, 3 doubles and 3 RBIs. Lowrie was acquired by Oakland from Houston, along with RHP Fernando Rodriguez, in exchange for 1B Chris Carter, RHP Brad Peacock and C Max Stassi. In his 1st stint with the Astros, Lowrie hit a career-high 16 home runs, with 14 of those blasts coming in the first half of This marks Lowrie s 2nd rehab stint with the Hooks.
