The Garnet and Gold have won 16 of the last 20 games in the series. Under head coach Mike Martin, Florida State is 27-6 against the Tigers including a record of 20-4 at home. In 2006, Florida State went 1-1 vs. Auburn as the Seminoles traveled to Samford Stadium in early February. The Seminole bats fell silent during the two-game series as FSU hit just.177 as a team. Dennis Guinn and Jack Rye each hit.250 in the series. Guinn collected two hits in eight at-bats driving in a team high three RBIs. Rye hit the only home run in the two-game series driving in two while drawing three base-on-balls. Buster Posey started both games at shortstop scoring a pair of runs. Rye hit well against the Tigers during his freshman campaign in 2005 as the Seminoles took four of five from Auburn. Rye hit.429 with four RBIs. He walked three times and scored a run. Ruairi O Connor went 2-for-4 in four games played. Ryan Strauss is the only pitcher on the FSU staff to face the Tigers over the last three seasons as he worked just 0.2 inning in relief. Seminoles On The Road Florida State is when playing its first road game of the season under head coach Mike Martin. The Seminoles have won two of their last three road openers but are only 4-4 in their last eight games. Last year, Florida State defeated Florida 14-6 in the Seminoles first road game of the season. FSU finished the year 14-8 away from Dick Howser Stadium in ACC Preseason Poll Despite losing 18 letterwinners including four position starters and two starting pitchers, the Florida State Seminoles were selected to repeat as Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division Champions in 2007 as determined by a vote of the league s 12 head coaches. Defending ACC champion North Carolina was picked to repeat as the league champion in 2008 as well as capture its third straight Coastal Division crown. Florida State garnered 66 points including seven first place votes. The Seminoles also received two votes to capture the ACC Championship which will be held at the Baseball Grounds in Jacksonville, Fla. This time around Delmonico was sporting the Garnet & Gold as opposed to the Orange & Black of Tennessee. The Volunteers visited Tallahassee last year to open the 2007 season for both teams. The rest of the infield may look different but it will have a familiar twist. Senior Dennis Guinn returns to first base after starting 59 games at that position as a sophomore. Jason Stidham moves from third to second, while freshman Stuart Tapley will get the starting nod at third. Stidham made 61 starts at third en routing to earning Freshman All- American accolades in Delmonico is coming off an impressive sophomore campaign at Tennessee where he played both second base and shortstop last year.

Last year, Florida State s starting infield of Posey (catcher), Brandon Reichert (first base), Tony Thomas, Jr. (second base), Mark Hallberg (shortstop) and Stidham (third base) combined to post a.978 fielding percentage. Four of those five Seminoles started all 62 games. Posey committed the fewest errors with three in his first season behind the plate. 13 Away From 1500 Florida State s Mike Martin is approaching yet another milestone as he enters his 29th season as head coach of the Seminole baseball program. Following a three-game sweep of Duquesne to open 2008, the Hall of Fame coach needs just 13 victories to become the third Division I coach to reach 1,500 career victories joining Texas Augie Garrido (1,632) and Wichita State s Gene Stephenson (1,606). Martin owns a career record of 1, good for an all-time winning percentage of.746 which ranks third in the NCAA among active Division I coaches. Early Recognition The preseason accolades have poured in for the Seminoles in Junior Buster Posey and senior Jack Rye most recently were named to the Golden Spikes Award Watch List for National Player of the Year. Since the inception of the Golden Spikes Award back in 1978, a Florida State student-athlete has received the award three times as Mike Fuentes (1981), Mike Loynd (1986) and J.D. Drew (1997) have all won the award. No school in America has produced more winners of this prestigious award than Florida State. Posey has also received first team All-America honors by Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and Rivals.com, while earning third team recognition from the NCBWA. Rye has been honored as a second team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and Rivals.com. Posey joins senior Ryan Strauss and sophomore Jason Stidham as a watch list member for the Brooks Wallace Award - an honor given to the nation s top collegiate player. Florida State will start the season ranked in the top 25 of four major polls. The Seminoles received their highest ranking of 12 by Collegiate Baseball and the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll. FSU sits 13th in the NCBWA preseason poll and 21st by Rivals.com. 4 Florida State Hit Streaks There were plenty of hits to go around during the Seminoles three game sweep of Duquesne to open the season. Freshmen Stuart Tapley, Mike McGee and Tyler Holt got off to a great start registering a hit in all three games, while sophomore Jason Stidham collected multiple hits in each game against Duquesne to extend his current hitting steak to five games dating back to last year. Tennessee transfer Tony Delmonico pushed his hitting streak to a career best 14 games thanks to hits in both games of the doubleheader against the Dukes. The streak would end at 14 as Delmonico went 0-for-4 in game three. Rye On The Mend The Seminoles were without the services of senior outfielder Jack Rye for the first week of the season as Rye suffered a broken right thumb during preseason practice. The Irvine, Calif., native has started 183 games in a Seminole uniform posting a career batting average of.348. Rye is the Seminoles leading home run hitter as he hit 10 a season ago. Young Seminoles Make Early Mark Nine freshmen made an appearance on opening weekend for the Seminoles as three were in the starting line-up for all three games against Duquesne. The starters, which included Mike McGee, Tyler Holt and Stuart Tapley, combined to hit.517 with 15 hits in 29 at-bats. The freshmen trio registered 10 runs, 9 RBIs, two doubles, a triple and two home runs. The three student-athletes posted nine walks while striking out just four times. They were perfect from the field in eight opportunities. Catcher Parker Brunelle made his first collegiate at-bat a memorable one hitting a two-run homer to right center in game one of the doubleheader. On the mound, McGee made his first start on Sunday and took a no-hitter into the sixth to earn the victory. Left hander Ryan Vigue worked an inning getting the Seminoles out of a bases loaded jam inducing a double play groundout and a strikeout. Tyler Everett also pitched an inning giving up a run on one hit. Two Out Runs...Two Out Hits Picking up where they left off a season ago, the Seminoles were outstanding on opening weekend hitting.444 (16-for-36) with two outs against Duquesne. Florida State scored 13 runs on two outs as Ohmed Danesh and Mike McGee led the way with three two-out RBIs. McGee led all Seminole hitters with four two-out hits. In 2007, FSU hit.330 with two outs accumulating 243 hits in 736 two-out opportunities. Thirty-nine percent of the run production last season was scored with two-outs as the Seminoles scored 219 runs in 62 games. 08 Honors & Awards Golden Spikes Award Buster Posey... Jimmy Marshall is the top returning reliever for the Seminoles as he posted a 2-0 record and a 1.39 ERA last year. 08 Class Highly Ranked The Seminoles were recognized by Collegiate Baseball with the nation s second best recruiting class in Since associate head coach Jamey Shouppe took over recruiting coordinator duties in 1990, FSU has had a class ranked in the top 25 each year while 12 of his 17 classes have been ranked in the top 10. Four freshmen were selected in the MLB Draft but opted to postpone their major league career and attend college. Those individuals include John Gast, Taiwan Easterling, Mike McGee and Mark Peterson.
