2 The Christy Mathewson Little League Welcomes all Little League players and their fans to our beautiful town of Fleetville, Pennsylvania. Looking Back at Christy Mathewson Major League Pitcher The dominant pitcher of his era and one of the five all time greats originally inducted into the Hall of Fame, Mathewson looked like the classic American hero: tall, blonde, and blue eyed, with a reputation for clean living and good sportsmanship that was often held up as a splendid example for the nations youth. While those virtues were surely exaggerated, his pitching skills were not. He retired with 372 wins (fourth all time), 78 shut outs (third), and a 2.13 ERA (fifth). Mathewson was born on August 12, 1880 in Factoryville, P.A, and he died on October 7, 1925 at Saranac Lake, N.Y. Mathewson played football and baseball for Bucknell University and was one of the first college educated men to enter the major leagues. Throwing right handed for the New York Giants ( ) he won more than 20 games in each of the 13 seasons, and 30 or more in four of those years. He played for and managed the Cincinnati Reds from 1916 to 1918, and later served as president of the Boston Braves from 1923 to Christy Mathewson Little League was founded in 1957, before mandatory play existed within Little League. Located in Lackawanna, Wyoming, and Susquehanna counties, our league is a proud member of Pennsylvania District 17. We maintain 5 sixty foot fields, and two ninety foot fields in the following towns: Nicholson, Dalton, Factoryville, Lake Winola and Fleetville. We are honored to have been chosen by Little League Inc. and District 17 to host the first ever 9 10 Girls Softball Eastern Region Invitational Tournament. Each team will have the opportunity to purchase the rights to all of the photos taken during the week of the tournament. Here is how it works: A fee of $ per team will be charged. Members of the team share in the cost. Each team will receive one (1) set of discs containing all of the photographs taken of the games in which the team participated throughout the week. All copyrights to the photographs will be released by Lisa Lee Photography. Each player can then print, copy, make collages, photo products, etc. using the images, since the copyrights are being released. The fee of $ is per team and is due prior to the start of the tournament. Payments can be mailed ahead of time to the address listed above, or made on the morning of the tournament, but must be made prior to the start of the tournament. Please make your payment payable to Lisa Lee Photography. Discs containing the photos will be mailed to the contact person elected from each team. State Flags We would like to hang the official state flag of each state represented at this tournament. If you have access to one, please bring one of your state s flags to hang at the complex. This is the official state flag, and not the state championship banner. Teams Arrival Friday, July 29, 2011 Credentials will be checked on Friday July 29 th from 6:00 to 7:30 at the Christy Mathewson Benton Field Complex conference room. These will be retained by the tournament staff until the tournament is over. It will then be returned to you. Please note that no team will be allowed to participate in the tournament until their credentials have been both reviewed and approved by the tournament staff.

9 There will be a mandatory team staff meeting at 7:45 PM after all teams have checked in. The purpose of this meeting is to go over ground and tournament rules, and to make sure all are clear on tournament decorum. All team officials must attend this meeting. Tournament Game Schedule The tournament will follow the schedule below. The team on the left of the pairing will be in the 3B dugout, while the team on the right of the pairing will be in the 1B dugout. Visitor and Home will be determined by the toss of a coin. The team with the asterisk (*) will call the coin toss for each game. Please be advised that this schedule may change based upon participation, weather, and field conditions. If necessary the tournament committee may drop the second, third, and fourth seeds.
