1 Rowan Little League (RLL) Congratulates and welcomes your team to the North Carolina Junior League State Tournament At Rowan Little League s Home The Salisbury Community Park 935 Hurley School Road Salisbury, NC July 8 July 11, 2016 On behalf of Rowan Little League and the City of Salisbury we would like to welcome you and make your visit to Salisbury as enjoyable as possible. We have provided this information package to offer you suggestions relative to hotels and other places of interest during your visit to Salisbury. We have also included information regarding our complex to become acquainted with the field locations, parking, directions, etc. Contact numbers for various administrators for this tournament are also provided to offer assistance at any time. Please do not hesitate to contact us throughout the week to assist with any questions you may have regarding your visit to Salisbury. 2 Rowan Little League History RLL was founded in Some notable people who started the league are Gordon Hurley, Donnie Clement, HB Keen, Harry Welch and many others. Only a handful of teams existed at this time. They first played across town at McDaniel s field where Food Lion store #1 is located. As years passed, the League grew, and the need for new fields now existed. We went from offering a 9-12-yearold league to breaking it down to 9-10 and In the 1970's, the likes of Bud & Clyde Mickel, Glenn Taylor, Greg Scarborough and others started a fund raising campaign to purchase new land for the league. They eventually raised enough money and purchased land from the Superior Oil Company over off Harrison Road. This is where the Food Lion Corporate offices currently are. The league settled in at the new complex comprised of just 2 fields. It continued to grow each year. In 1988 the Board of Directors decided it was time to join Little League Incorporated. This was mainly due to the low cost of insurance for the players and members of the League. The League had grown to teams. Nearing the Millennium, plans were being put into place for the City of Salisbury to build a new park. This park would ultimately be here the Salisbury Community Park. At the same time, Food Lion needed the land where are 2 existing fields were. A partnership was formed between RLL and the City. With this new park the City had to have a full time tenant. Scott Maddox, former City Councilman, and past President of RLL was very instrumental in putting our partnership together with the City. Our Executive Board Dan Wales, Greg Scarborough, Bud Mickle and others starting working with the City on the design of the Baseball/Softball facilities here. We sold our property to Food Lion, contracted with the City for a $400,000 donation towards the park to own the rights to the fields and the first right of refusal on the Concessions Stand. After about 7 years here at the Salisbury Community Park, the League grew by as much as 400%. To a peak level of over 60 teams! Build it and they will come! And they did. 27 years after chartering with Little League, 14 years at the Salisbury Community Park, and only 7 years playing girls Little League softball Rowan Little League Softball won its only World Series Championship in Portland, Oregon in 2015! Bagnal Blvd, merge onto US Hwy 70 East, Continue about 18 miles to Hurley School Rd in Salisbury on your right, Turn right onto Hurley School Rd, Continue about ½ mile and arrive at Salisbury Community Park on your left.

3 Parking / Admission Fees: There is ample parking at the complex. A donation of $6 per car will be requested in lieu of passing the bucket during games. All donations will go to District 2. No funds will be kept by Rowan Little League. Field: RLL has 5 Little League (46/60) fields with natural grass fields with dirt infields. A map of the complex is included. Games will be played on Field #1 (Bernhardt Field). Field schedules may change depending on field conditions. It is our goal to play games on fields in the best condition in order to ensure your teams have the best that we have to offer. There are bleachers for use on both the first and third base lines of all field. There is also plenty of space for lawn chairs along the base lines, and in the outfield. Fields that are not in use for games will be available for warm ups prior to games and there are also 2 batting cages that are available for use. In addition, all teams may arrange for practice during the day while you are in town. Please contact the tournament director to schedule field/cage time if you would like to take advantage of our facility. Concession Stand: Our concession stand will be open and will offer a full array of drinks, food and snacks. The concession stand has a grill, and offers hotdogs, hamburgers, cold sandwiches, and other hot meal items. We have full bathrooms on either side of the concession stand building as well as bathroom facilities near the batting cages. NO coolers, or outside food and drinks are allowed inside the complex. Game Preparation: The complex offers ample preparation space. We offer 2 batting cages, and 4 practice fields space. Each team will be afforded appropriate practice space starting 90 minutes prior to game time. Additional practice time may be reserved by contacting the tournament directors. Pre-game Timing: Pre-game practice protocol will begin 70 minutes before each game. The coin flip will take place at that point with the designated tournament director for your respective bracket. Following that time, the following pre-game timing will be observed: Line-up Cards Submitted to Tournament Director :65 (can be altered up to umpire plate meeting) Batting practice in batting cages or practice field for 25 minutes :60 Batting practice in batting cages or practice field ends :35 Infield practice for home team for 7 minutes :27 (infield practice will be on field 2 or game field) Infield practice for visiting team for 7 minutes :20 Field touch up by grounds crew (if necessary) :13 Umpire Meeting :06 (lineups exchanged become official) Starting lineups / Anthem (if first game) / LL Pledge :04 Home Team Takes the Field :01 First Pitch :00

District Administrator Mike Hirschman Tournament Director Dan Wales Assistant Tournament Director Dan Spicer Complex Rules and Regulations: We ask that all participants; coaches, fans, and parents adhere to all the rules of RLL to make the complex and tournament an enjoyable and safe place for children to play. Please use the trashcans provided. We ask that all teams clean out their dugout and bleachers after each game. Smoking is prohibited inside the Salisbury Community Park! No alcohol or drugs. No foul or abusive language will be tolerated We ask that parents and fans encourage both teams and refrain from taunts towards the players or umpires. No artificial noisemakers are allowed. No bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, wheeled shoes, scooters, etc. are permitted inside the complex Managers Meeting / Affidavit Check: There will be a mandatory Team Managers meeting on Friday, July 8 th at 2:00pm in the Salisbury Community Park office by the concession stand. Affidavits will also be checked at this time. Be sure to bring them with you. In addition, the Tournament Director will meet with both team managers 70 minutes before each game for the coin toss.

5 All equipment will be checked. Make sure cracked batting helmets are replaced, throat guards are on catcher s mask, and bats are in compliance with Little League Requirements, etc. See your Little League Rule Book if there are questions. Please leave any bats not in compliance in the car. All bats in the dugout will be checked.
