2 Event Overview Cycling BC, Broad Street Cycles, and Shimano are proud to present the 2018 BC Cyclocross Provincial Championships being held on November 18th, 2018 at the hallowed grounds of Western Speedway, located just outside Victoria, British Columbia. Venue Western Speedway is located at 2207 Millstream Rd, Victoria, BC V9B 0J7. It is home to a 4/10-mile paved oval track that was founded in 1954, and is western Canada's oldest speedway. The venue and the adjacent Westshore Motocross Track have played host to numerous rounds of the Cross on the Rock and the 2015 Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships. Race Course The Provincial Championships will feature a modified version of past Cross on the Rock courses at Western Speedway and 2015 s SSCXWC course with (possibly) less boats, snow, and shortcuts, but hopefully more mud! With wide motocross dirt sections, paved autotrack straight aways, and greasy Tall Fescue, the course will be a fun but technically challenging mix of slow, fast, and really slow with a number of potential on-off bike sections thrown in for good measure. 3 Registration and Number Pickup Online Registration: Online registration closes on Thursday, November 15, :59 PM (GMT-7) Registration requires the presentation of a valid CC/UCI or Cycling BC license to be considered final. There will be limited day-of registration at the venue. All racers who register day-of will not receive a call-up, and start towards the back of their respective start grid. Sign-on and number/timing chip pickup will close 30 minutes prior to the start of all races. Parking There is ample free parking available on site. See Site Map, above. Team Tent Area Team Tent area is available nearby the Finish Line and Pits. See Site Map, above. Please note: No parking in the Team Tent area. Unload, set-up tent, then park in the main lot. Car drop off of tents MUST be done BEFORE the first 9:30 am, as the course runs through the team tent area. If you want to reserve a team tent spot please send a note to bccxchamps2018@gmail.com Washrooms Ample indoor washroom facilities are located under the main grandstand near Registration. Event Medical Staff A team of trained medical staff ( Medix BC ) will be on site during the event, with primary location near the Team Tent Area and Finish line. Race Headquarters, Awards/Podium Location, Media Results will be posted at the Results Boards following each event. One will be at the Podium/Awards Location and another at Registration. Awards ceremonies for each race wave will be held at the noted times in the race schedule. All podium finishers are expected to be in attendance. Photos will be taken for all podiums so we ask that you remain on the podium until the official photos have been taken. Finish Line Services and Results

6 Race timing will use a chip system, with chips mounted on the bike. Results will be posted on the results board following each race. There will be a 30 minute window to allow for protests. Championship Categories The following categories are official British Columbia Championship categories: U13 (men and women) U15 (men and women) U17 (men and women) Junior (men and women) Elite (men and women) Masters (men and women) Masters (men and women) Masters (men) Masters 60+ (men) Master 50+ (women) Singlespeed (men) Singlespeed (women) Licensing and Participation The BC Championships will take place on date and time as scheduled. There will be no extension of the Championships past Sunday November 18, 2018 due to unforeseen delays or prolonged stoppages. In case of stoppages, priority will be given to championships class. Racing format may also be modified at the discretion of the President of the Commissaires Panel in response to prolonged stoppages. Entry fees are non-refundable. Medical problems should be reported to a commissaire or Cycling BC technical delegate. Athletes participating at the 2018 BC Championships events requiring the use of a medication included on the Prohibited List must have a TUE prior to participating in the event. This applies to all categories of athlete: elite, junior, master, etc. To obtain forms and TUE requirements, athletes are encouraged to visit the TUE Wizard, The event(s) will be run under Cycling BC/Cycling Canada/UCI rules. There will be no day of license for the BC Championships categories All Youth, Junior, Elite, Masters and Single Speed Championship racers must have a valid Cycling BC Provincial Race License, a Cycling BC UCI License or a UCI License from another jurisdiction

7 Categories may be merged with another age or ability category at the discretion of the Technical Delegate or Chief Commissaires for the start, but will receive awards separately. Approved helmets are mandatory for training, competition and anytime you are on a bike. Eligibility All Youth, Junior, Elite, Masters and Single Speed Championship racers must have a valid Cycling BC Provincial Race License, a Cycling BC UCI License or a UCI License from another jurisdiction. To be eligible to win a BC Championship, the rider must be a resident of BC and have a valid Cycling BC Provincial Race License or a Cycling BC UCI License. Prize money (where applicable) will be based on order of finish at the Provincial Championships, regardless of citizenship or nationality. Should a non-eligible rider place among the top three finishers in the race category, a podium presentation will take place based on the order of finish of the race and a second podium presentation based on the Provincial Championship results of eligible riders. Proof of residence may be required (this includes driver s license, permanent resident card). All participants must be licensed to compete in the appropriate discipline. All participants must be prepared to present their license upon demand at the event. Domestic licenses from other countries or within Canada are not permitted for Championship categories. No one-day event licenses will be sold for the championship races. License must be presented during race package pick-up. No registrations will be accepted on the day of the event. All competitors MUST enter their event class as shown on their license, unless they can present a letter granting an upgrade from Cycling BC. If your National category is Elite, you cannot race as a Master. If your category is Master, you cannot race as an Elite without a letter of permission from Cycling BC. The categories are defined as per UCI rules based on year of birth. Cyclocross racing age for the Championship is the rider s age as of on Dec. 31, Any inquiries about upgrades to the Elite category should be directed to Cory Ostertag at membership@cyclingbc.net. All upgrades must be submitted no later than 14 days prior to the start of the race. Equipment Championship races UCI equipment rules apply Cyclocross and/or road bikes only

Start grid make up 1.1 Start grid will be UCI compliant 8 riders wide. 1.2 Grid positions will be allocated to each region based on 2017 event participation numbers. 1.3 Grid position will then be assigned to riders based on their regional ranking spots on the first row of the grid will be reserved for 2017 Provincial Championship podium. 2. Rankings 2.1 Each region (Island, Lower Mainland & Interior) will be responsible for reporting their regional ranking to Cycling BC one week before the Provincial Championship race date. 2.2 Cycling BC will publish the start grid 48 hours before race start. Available on Cyclingbc.net, facebook etc. 2.3 The #1 ranked rider in each region will be assigned to top grid positions and so on. 2.4 Only riders competing in the upper most competitive categories will be included. In other words, only riders in Expert, A group, Elite, Master A etc are counted. For example, if you are a men's master but competing in novice, intermediate, or master B you will not be included and will be assigned a grid position at random at the back. On the other hand, a Cat 3 racer who races the whole season in Elite/Expert will earn their rank in the Elite category. 2.5 Masters racers competing in the uppermost race categories will be assigned grid position based on their rank as it relates to other racers. For example, if you are ranked 10th in LMCX, but riders ranked 1st through 9th are licensed elite/juniors etc, the you are effectively ranked 1st in in your region. 2.6 If a rider is ranked in two or more series, the higher rank will be used. For example, if a rider is ranked 2nd in interior cross rankings but ranked 10th in LMCX, they will be assigned grid position ICX # If a rider races in a category that is not their own as designated on their license they forfeit their call up position in their licensed category at Provincials. For example, if a master racer "races up" in Elite/Expert, they may not receive a grid position in masters.

9 2.7.1 An exception for call up rule 2.7 will be made for Junior and Youth racers racing up in Elite/Expert and earning a rank in the top 20% of riders. 2.8 Riders from outside BC with no ranking are not assigned a start grid position. Start Grid

10 Lapped Riders

11 Racers please be courteous and move to the side when being lapped, please do no contest or interfere. The President of the Commissaire Panel can and will pull lapped riders if necessary, although it is our intent to allow all riders to finish each event. In the event that a rider is lapped by the leader, the lapped rider must complete the lap during which they were lapped and leave the course via an exit just prior to the finish line or in the 80% zone as described in article , if that rule applies. Their results will be listed in the order in which they were at the time they were pulled out of the race, plus the number of laps that had not been completed. Pit & Bike Washing Area One large double pit is located on the course close the Team Tents area. See course map. The Pit Area is for the exchange of race bikes and wheels during the course of a rider s event. On either side of the Pit Area is the exchange lane, which is for riders entry and exit only. Do not stand in the exchange lanes during a race. Between exchange lanes is the median for storage of bikes, wheels, and riders assistants. Only riders/riders mechanics/assistants may be present inside the Pit Area during the race. If available and contingent on the weather, gasoline powered pressure washers may be located at the pits for mechanics and assistants tending to racers on course. Use of washers by unauthorized personnel at unauthorized times will result in disqualification. Please remove your equipment out of the pit area immediately following your race. As freezing conditions have been known to occur, providing water onsite is difficult. If available a bike wash station will be provided with the location determined day of. Come prepared to have a personal wash station. Pit Passes and Mechanics Protocol Each rider has a right to two (2) assistants. No other personnel will be allowed in the pits. No pit passes are required. Warm-Ups/Pre-Riding the Course The course will be open for warm up at 9:00 am on November 18 and periodically throughout the race day as noted in the schedule. Warming up on the course while a race is in progress, or at any other unauthorized time, is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification. Please respect the other racers by not warming up immediately behind the last place rider in the ongoing race. Helmets must be worn AT ALL TIMES when riding the course & failure to comply will result in disqualification.
