1 Day 1 to Jasper Engines, Schwartz s Restaurant and Shoe Tree. 95 miles. Elevation gain/loss: 5648 feet. Today we will be touring through Crawford and Harrison counties. Our first stop will be a tour of the Jasper Engines Transmission Plant near Carefree Indiana. The tours start at 9:30am, but we need to have our T s in the parking lot by 9:15am so the Jasper employees can come out and see our cars during their morning break. Plan to be out of the motel parking lot before 8:00am. We have 2 model T era iron truss bridges to cross in the morning. One is a 2 span thru truss bridge with each span constructed by different builders. Look for the manufacturers signs on the top of the bridges. Lunch today will be at Schwartz s Restaurant. After lunch we have our first creek crossing of the tour and visit the shoe tree. Be sure to leave a pair of shoes at the shoe tree. Keep an eye out for the big rooster on the roof. From motel parking lot turn right onto Federal Place 100' At stop sign turn right onto Edsel Ln.4 At stop sign turn right onto Hwy ' Turn left onto Gardner Lane 0.6 Turn right onto Commissioners Way (Immediately past Justice Center) 0.1 At stop sign turn left onto Corydon Ramsey Road 0.1 At stop sign go straight across Hwy 62 onto Old Forest Road 2.2 Stay left on Old Forest Road where Mt. Soloman Road comes in from the right 1.6 At Valley View Road and Old Forest Road stay to the right on Old Forest Road 1.8 Turn right down the holler onto Feller Road (this will be the first road to the right past Walnut Valley Road) 2.2 At stop sign turn right onto Hwy 462

2 1.0 At stop sign turn left onto the Ohio River Scenic Byway (Hwy 62) 6.9 As you're coming into Leavenworth turn right onto Dry Run Road. (This road is across from the Dock Restaurant sign on the left.).9 Turn left onto Tower Road at the top of the hill. (this will be the first gravel road to the left after crossing the 1 lane bridge) No sign 1.6 At the next intersection stay to the left and watch out for gravel trucks leaving Mulzer Quarry on the right.9 At Y stay to the left where Koa Road goes to the right.7 At stop sign turn right onto Hwy 66 (If you need to make a pit stop before going onto the Jasper Plant stop at one of the gas stations here. We will be coming back past these gas stations after the Jasper Plant tour. ).8 Cross over I64 and turn right onto Industrial Ln. (Look for the Crawford County Industrial Park sign).2 Turn left into Jasper Engines and Transmission Plant parking lot. (Main Office and Guest Entrance sign) Leave the Jasper Plant the way you came in..2 At stop sign turn left onto Hwy 66 There are 2 gas stations (Pilot and Marathon) on the right after you cross over I64 (Be sure to leave here with a full tank of gas. There are hills ahead. ) Turn right onto Hwy 66 as you leave the gas stations. 1.4 Go straight onto Indian Ridge Road where Hwy 66 turns to the left. 1.1 At stop sign go straight across Hwy 62 onto Fredonia Road (keep the Kentucky Ocean to your left) 3. Turn right at the Mulzer Crushed Stone sign. (If you look across the Kentucky Ocean here you will see Kentucky now located due north of Indiana)

3 .3 Take the first right onto Cape Sandy Road.6 Turn right onto Archibald Falls Road.4 At T intersection stay right on Archibald Falls Road.9 At Y stay left on Archibald Falls Road (downhill gravel road keep it going slow).9 Cross Archibald Falls Bridge (An 1896 iron through truss bridge with 2 spans. Each was constructed by a different bridge builder).3 At first intersection after leaving the bridge continue on the main road up the hill..5 At stop sign turn right on the Alton Road. (There is a steep uphill grade right after you make this turn.) 2.4 DANGER!! SLOW DOWN and keep some distance between the cars as you are going down the hill to cross over the Beechwood Bridge. There is a VERY ABRUPT TRANSITION between the road and the bridge at the bottom of the hill. The downhill approach to this bridge will begin just past Holy Mount Church. You'll need to nearly stop as you make this transition from the road to the bridge. 3.2 At stop sign turn left onto Ohio River Scenic Byway Hwy 66/62 W 3.6 Stay straight on Hwy 62 at Sulphur. (There is a store on the left here. Stop for snacks and gas if you need it. Only 1 pump here.)

4 3.3 Turn right onto Mifflin West Fork Road (this will be the first through road to the right after leaving Sulphur. Not too far past the West Fork sign.).5 Turn left at the first intersection after you go under I64 onto Mifflin West Fork Road (No sign) 1.9 Turn left onto West Fork Road. This is a narrow gravel road with no sign. If you pass the round grain bin with the green roof, you've gone too far. 1.8 Turn right onto Patoka Tower Road.9 At stop sign turn left onto Bethany Church Road.5 At stop sign go straight across Hwy 37.2 At stop sign turn right onto Eckerty Doolittle Road 1.4 Turn right onto Govenors Trace Road then left into Schwartz's parking lot. Enjoy your lunch 0 Turn left onto Govenors Trace Road as you leave the parking lot..1 At stop sign go straight across Hwy 37 onto Govenors Trace Road (Note: If you still need gas turn left here onto Hwy 37. then stay left on Hwy 64. there will be a gas station ahead on the left. Return to this point to get back on the route).9 Stay straight onto Goveners Trace Road (gravel) 3.7 Stay to the right after you cross the concrete bridge. The road becomes Otter Creek Road. (Look here for the rooster on the shed roof) 2.2 At stop sign go straight across Hwy At stop sign go straight onto Seaton Hill Road. Welcome to Grantsburg Indiana..3 At Y stay right onto Seaton Hill Road

5 Directions to cross the creek: 2.3 At stop sign turn left onto Magnolia Road.4 Turn right onto Bogard Hollow Road (this is the first road to the right) (No Sign) 1.5 Have fun crossing the creek..9 At stop sign turn right onto Mt Sterling Road (No Sign) 1.4 At stop sign go straight onto Curby Road Directions to bypass the creek crossing. 2.3 At stop sign turn right onto Magnolia Road 1.3 At next intersection turn left onto Curby Road. (look for the barn on the left with the American Flag for a roof) 3.0 At T turn right onto Curby Road where Mt Sterling Road goes left. 3.1 At stop sign turn left onto Hwy 66 E.3 Turn right onto Knight Road (first road to the right) 2.6 At stop sign you'll be continuing straight onto Shoe Tree Road. Be sure to stop here and and toss your shoes into the famous shoe tree. 0.9 At first intersection stay straight on Wyandotte Cave Road 0.1 At next intersection stay left on Wyandotte Cave Road where Rothrocks Mill Road goes right. 3.2 At stop sign turn right onto Devils Hollow Road 2.1 Turn right onto First Avenue (go down the hill) Welcome to Milltown In.1 At stop sign turn right onto Main Street.1 Turn left to stay on Main Street There are restrooms at the Cave Country Canoes parking area on the left. Cross the blue bridge and stay to the right where road splits..2 Turn right onto Spencer Street (first right after crossing the bridge)
