Approval of Minutes of Previous Meeting Minutes of the Road Safety Mississauga 2013 were approved as amended. on April 23, RSM-OO That recommendation "-O"V'-VlIV 2. ;gra,ted Road Safety Program outlined the current summaries that 40km/h speed limits are to be placed in collector roadways and areas that geometry cannot support. He noted that drivers do not change their driving behaviours 8f,~icfe,duc:ed to 40km/h speed limits and that 40km/h speed limit should consistent manner so they do not lose their creditability. Mr. Patterson the current corporate policy is restrictive and that staff are looking at other opportunities to implement 40km/h speed limits. Councillor Saito noted that the Corporate Report needs to be brought forward to Council for their review and noted the need to include a resident educational component featuring a survey. She noted that one reason why reducing speed limits to 40km/h in school zone are not obeyed is because they run during holidays and they lose their effectiveness.

He spoke to placing "Speed Limit Sings" in communities and addressed the high cost and the impact they have on the character of a neighbourhood. RSM I. Educational and Promotional Road Safety Material Councillor Pat Saito welcomed Irwin Nayer, Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee member to the first Educational and Promotional Subcommittee meeting and noted the disconnect with residents concerning cycling safety. She noted the need for increased cycling safety messages for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. Mr. Nayer, noted the increase of cyclist in Mississauga and the concern for cyclists safety on the roadway. He noted the need for a change in the mind-set of both drivers and cyclist behaviours. Subcommittee members engaged in conversation regarding various methods to get the message of cycling safety out: Create a pilot program for an outreach safety program Getting the Peel Regional Police on board to hand out cycling related violations Cycling Office to create a short list of rules and regulations to be placed on posters/signs for Canadian Tires, Costco's, Sporting Goods Stores and Wal-Mart Create car magnets and stickers that say "Share the Road" to be placed on City and Regional owned fleet vehicles. That the Peel Regional Police enforce cycling related infractions such as passing on the right and running red lights. RECEIVED (R. Carew) That $2, be allocated from the 2013 Road Safety Mississauga budget to purchase car magnets and stickers to promote Share the Road between cyclist and motorist.
