15 THE PEPPER FAMILY Our Workshop Series is named in honor of the Pepper family of Addison, NY. They are a quintessential American family - hardworking, entrepreneurial, and benevolent. Emigrating from Germany in the mid-19th Century, George B. Pepper established himself as a farmer and lumberman in the Addison area. His progeny became merchants in town, running several successful businesses, including the first oil and gas company, a grocery and mercantile store, a bakery, and movie theater. The Peppers also served the area in many other capacities, including local politics. The Pepper family s proximity to the Finger Lakes afforded them the ability to spend free time enjoying the lakes and all they have to offer. The Pepper family is truly representative of the supporters of the Finger Lakes Boating Museum and Academy.
