The Camden Hills Drama Club placed second in Division II competition with their production of Tom Stoppard's "The Fifteen Minute Hamlet." 2 production of "The Fifteen Minute Hamlet." The regional competition included students from Georges Valley, Rockland District, North Haven, Medomak Valley, Belfast Area, Bucksport and Searsport high schools. Placing first in Division II competition was Georges Valley High with their production of "The Unvarnished Truth" by Royce Ryton. Division I winners were Belfast Area High, first place with "Dearly Departed." Medomak Valley High placed second in Division I with an adaptation of Eugene Ionesco's "Rhinoceros." First place winners will advance to the state finals to be held March 23 and 24. Division I finals will be held in Rockland and Division II finals will be held at the same time in Bangor. Special Judge's Commendations were presented to Georges Valley for costumes and lighting. Rockland District High received a commendation for costumes. Searsport received a commendation for costumes, Belfast for ensemble and Medomak Valley for original music, adaptation, set and director. Students were allowed 40 minutes to present their play and five minutes to tear down the set. The time limits were strictly adhered to. Judges for the studentperformed plays were Scott Snively of Appleton, Eugene Thomas of Waldoboro and Stephanie Irwin of Waterville. Festival Staff included Host Director, Rick Ash of Camden Hills Regional High, CH Principal Jim Anastasio as the Maine Principals Association committee representative, Alison Machaiek as the Maine Drama Council Representative and CH's Jason Cushing as the festival technical director. The Camden Hills Tech Club provided all the technical assistance to the visiting high schools. 3 UMaine Hutchinson Center Waldo County Technical Center Watershed Community In "The Fifteen Minute Hamlet," cast members were an integral part of the set. Camden Hills' production of "The Fifteen Minute Hamlet" included as Heralds: Kate Friesland, Nate Curll and Sarah Gross; Shakespeare, Claudius and Polonius: Avery Ash; Marcellus, Bernardo, Laertes and Horatio: Suzanne Denison; Francisco, Osric, Frontinbras, Gravedigger, Ghost and Horatio: J.J. Nelson; Gertrude: Josh Fernands; Hamlet: Jake Cayouette; Ophelia: Sydney Barnhart; Chorus: Casey Williamson, Molly Eddy, Theresa Nessel, Hillary Peaslee, Kartina Hawkins, Henry Hanscom, Rebecca Gross, Matt Lane and Brady Butler. The production staff included Director: Tom Gray; Student Director: Matt Lane; Tech Director: Rick Ash; Stage Manager: Ian Quinn; Assistant Stage Manager: Kirk Newcombe; Set Design: Jana Gottshalk; Costume Design: Rachel Booker; Lighting Design: Tom Gray; Lighting: Matt Whitmire; Sound: Justin Fernands. The high schools presented their plays over two days in the Strom Auditorium. The competition was held simultaneously across the state on a regional basis with the winners of each competition moving on to the state finals. Division II first place finisher Georges Valley in their production of "The Unvarnished Truth." The Camden Hills Tech Club enjoyed a busy weekend as they played host to the numerous high schools, making them feel welcome and helping with the 1,001 things each school needed to make their production happen. 4 Tech Club members included Jason Cushing, Dan Smith, Katherine Perry, Ian Quinn, Justin Fernands, Kirk Newcomb, Matt Whitmire and Casey Williamson. North Haven's Jacob Greenlaw as George Washington and Stanley Brown as Cornwallis in their production of "George Washington Crossing the Delaware."
