It is a great time to get those Model A out for a drive. The fall tour was great, driving through Southeastern Oklahoma with all the beautiful fall colors. Of course seeing thirty two Model A s making their way through the winding roads and hills of the Talimena Drive was a beautiful picture. Thanks to the Sooner Model A Club of Oklahoma City for making this a very fun fall tour. Thanks to Ken Brust for the tour through South Tulsa to see Rob Coretz s great car collection and garage. A big thanks from the Club to Rob Coretz for opening up his garage and for his time. Margaret Soper has plans for a poker run after the November breakfast this Saturday. I am sure that will be a lot of fun. Then we will end up at Baker s Catfish Restaurant for lunch. November 9 th is the Veterans Day Parade at Claremore. Start time is 11:11 am. We need to be lined up by 10:30 at the Rogers County Fair Grounds. November is our annual trip to OSU Okmulgee Culinary Arts School for lunch and a tour of the automotive school. See separate article for rendezvous time and place. Our annual fund raiser, chili super and pie auction, is November 16 th at 6:30. This event makes it possible for us to have our dinners and other Club actives throughout the year. So bring your check book and be generous. I want to say thank you to Pam Lundy for a great job as Editor of the Rumble Sheet for so long and welcome Cyndii Sellers as the new Editor. Please forward all items for the Rumble Sheet to her at: cyndiisellers@yahoo.com. Happy Thanksgiving everyone and May the Ford Be With You! Don NOVEMBER 2012 Rumble Sheet Vol. 46 Issue 11 Page 1

2 2014 Regional Plans Are Shaping Up by Ken and Tory Brust Our 2014 Regional Planning Committee met recently to review the current status in order to take the next step in preparing an overall budget. Things are beginning to shape up, and everyone is excited about what we have in store for the attendees who come to the June, 2014 Event. We have shortened the standard Regional format to a 4-day event. Registration will be held Monday, June 9, from 8:00AM - 5:00PM. For those who arrive early, we have planned self-guided tours to various interesting destinations around the Tulsa area. The Welcome Party Monday night will outline the Event Schedule for the following three days. Tuesday morning includes a tour of the Tulsa Air and Space Museum, followed by a stop at the Port of Catoosa, and then on to the Will Rogers Center for lunch and an interesting program delivered by Will and Wiley themselves. We will return to Tulsa along old Route 66 to the new Route 66 Park downtown. Tuesday night we will have pizza and the Hubley Races. Wednesday morning two concurrent tours are planned: a walking tour of downtown Tulsa, with a focus on the underground and amazing architecture, and a bus tour around the downtown/mid-town areas, highlighting many of their historical points of interest. The Ladies and Men s Luncheons will be held Wednesday at noon in the Tulsa Historical Society and The Tulsa Garden Club, and both will include an interesting program. Following this, car games and a swap meet are to be held back in the hotel parking lot in the afternoon. Wednesday evening there is a very interesting dinner-program planned. Thursday morning, we will be touring the Bartlesville area, visiting many fascinating places and having lunch at Wooloroc. Thursday evening is our Banquet. We believe our 2014 Regional Meet will be a fun and busy event. We hope all of our Tulsa Club members will volunteer when asked to help make it a big success! If you haven t been to a Regional Meet, please plan to attend the next one in Wichita, Kansas in Photos From Rob s Car Garage NOVEMBER 2012 Rumble Sheet Vol. 46 Issue 11 Page 2

3 Chris and Mitchell Duvall and I flew in their little aircraft over to Branson the Sunday after OU embarrassed the poor Longhorns. We visited a friend of mine who has an unbelievable collection of old airplanes, cars and outboard motors. It is all too amazing even to try to explain what all he has, but he has some real jewels! Nuts & Bolts (or Miscellaneous Tidbits!) by Ken Brust I hope you had a very Happy Halloween and didn t get too spooked! The fall weather sure jumped in quickly after a steamy, hot summer. Nothing compares to seeing the fall foliage than by flying low over the Ozarks on a crisp October morning and enjoying the changing colors. (It s even better than from a Model A, but only by a little bit!) Following our September club breakfast at BBD South, many of us caravanned through mid-town to revisit another fabulous car collection. Both breakfast and the car visit were huge successes. Breakfast was very good and we had excellent, prompt service; but, visiting with Rob and his extremely fine car collection was the cat s meow, so to speak! Even with a rainy forecast and a few drops, we had a great turn-out for both events. Keith Jones, who helps Rob care for his car collection, was there with his dad. Keith has a Model T Ford and is quite active with the local Model T Ford Club. I ve known Keith for some time now and in the past we ve talked about doing another joint function with our two Ford clubs. Rob, who offered to help with this and possibly host a gathering of some kind, also graciously offered his help to our club, wherever he could, when we host the 2014 Regional Meet. After leaving Rob s, we drove Ruthie over to Utica to visit with friends at the art fair. As you all can well appreciate, Ruthie seemed to attract as much attention as some of the art exhibits! These old cars certainly can be lots of fun. The Fall Tour this month was another outstanding Model A adventure. The weather was picture perfect. We had over 30 Model A s driving along the scenic Talimena Drive. This hilly, picturesque, two-lane drive seems to just be made for Model A s. Gathering with the Sooner Club is always fun. Many thanks to them for organizing this great Tour. NOVEMBER 2012 Rumble Sheet Vol. 46 Issue 11 Page 3

4 Incidentally, several of their members have already signed up for the national tour along the Blue Ridge Parkway in May of next year. Would anyone in our club interested in joining them? Tory and I are thinking seriously about doing it. It would be another fun and interesting Model A experience! We have two relatively new members who have agreed to serve on our Board. Thank you for your volunteerism, Rich and Jeannie. We also welcome back Harold who has agreed to serve another hitch. I recently talked to Scott Downey, with Paragon out in Sapulpa, about the possibility of our club visiting his car collection some time. He welcomes our visit whenever we can coordinate a time that works with everyone s schedule. He has over 60 cars, most of them Corvettes, NASCARs and muscle cars; but it is a very interesting collection, nonetheless. Weather permitting, perhaps we could plan a visit for the first Saturday in February, This past Sunday I drove by an old building on 11th Street that had sponsored a family Halloween party. It had three Model A Fords inside being driven by a mummy, a Jacka-lantern and a witch. Does anyone know who owns these vehicles? We need to get them in our club! When we drive in the Veterans Day Parade this month, why not offer a ride to a Veteran? The parade is to honor our many Veterans, so what better way to honor them than to have them ride with us in our classic old Fords? NOVEMBER 2012 Rumble Sheet Vol. 46 Issue 11 Page 4
