3 A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT June 2018 Hello, my name is Roy, I am Geoff s inner chimp we all have one, it just seems I got lucky with my Human, and I get let out of my cage... a lot. Truth be told, we chimps are very much a part of all of you, you all have one, in fact, a very knowledgeable chap wrote a book called the Chimp Paradox... you ve seen us in action, when we get excited or mad, we jump about making whooping noise, pull stupid looking faces and sometimes... well I won t go there. In Human form, we are the naughty little voice in your head that won t let you politely wave someone in ahead of you, who is trying to overtake you, on the inside, on I-10...worst freeway in the world. Bottom line; Humans..i.e. you lot, are our closest relative. So the Psychology professor who wrote the book, suggested Humans give their inner chimp their middle name, and mine is Roy, I have a good mate who I just went on holidays with, Wayne, and we have other pals as well. We inner chimps are a very much needed part of what it takes to be Human, we are your joy, your raw emotion, your naughty little self... without us, well frankly you would all end up being very boring. Geoff told me to be on my best behavior while I wrote this... what.. you don t believe Chimps can type. Look at the picture, and tell me honestly, how many of you humans can strip down and rebuild a 48IDF Weber Carburetor... as I thought... NOT SO MANY. Anyway. Over the coming months you may get to see me out of my cage, quite a lot, in what was a superb trip organized by my female, Janice, naughty little mate that she is. She took us all on a tour of two tails, and those of you who thought the Biltmore mansion was boring... forgot the important part. Getting there. tail of the lizard, and then some back roads up the Little river scenic byway...(road ATLANTA) and then the tail of the dragon (Willow Springs) suffice to say at the end of all of them I was out of the drivers seat, jumping around like me mate was in heat, and, well, sorry... you get the picture. Bottom line, a run worthy of many, many bananas. Geoff, also wanted me to tell you to make sure you keep the 14th July free, something to do with the club s birthday, Fajita s, Margarita and possibly Flags. Also, just cuz ya missed the road trip of a lifetime, doesn t mean you missed out on all opportunities for fun, and more importantly to let your own inner chimp have a go at the upcoming Autocross track day, that I am sure Janice (Suzanne s inner chimp) will mention elsewhere in the magazine. Finally, our week away wasn t all fun, Roy and Wayne performed some very important work, wherein we engaged in frequent road tests. It has to be said, that the C6 Z06 is one helluva car; but, the C7 Z06 is better on every count, it out handled the C6, even with me inside rear wheel airborne around the Dragon, and it out accelerated it in the critical 60MPH to. as we chimps like to say, oh S..t where the %$^& are the brakes, rolling drag race, unless, as was often the case, I went on two... then Wayne and his mate would catch me just as I was hard on the stop peddle to save ramming Janice right up the rear. That s all from me... remember, let yer inner chimp out occasionally, and remember what it was like to be 9 years old again, only this time, you can blame me, well not me per say, but your inner chimp... as Geoff often say s to, well nearly everyone, it wasn t me, it was Roy. Roy Inner Chimp Ansley. Inner Chimp to the President of SJCC. 3

4 NOTES FROM THE 2 ND FIDDLE (VICE PRESIDENT S REPORT) June 2018 We re not yet halfway through the year and the Christmas party fundraising is going well. A sincere thanks to all who have donated items for the raffles and auctions at our monthly club meetings, and to everyone who has purchased raffle tickets and bid on auction items. Every item and dollar contributed helps, so please keep them coming. As a reminder, the Christmas party is December 1 st at the Hilton Americas Hotel in downtown. Details are on the attached flyer and on the club s website in the calendar section. For those of you wanting to stay overnight at the hotel, the hotel has provided a dedicated website for room reservations at the discounted rate of $109 per night for a King room - The link is also on the flyer. This is a fantastic room rate for a first-class hotel. The hotel is holding a block of rooms for us until November 1 st. But don t wait to the last minute to book a room, as I expect these rooms to go fast. This ain t Motel 6 folks. If you want to try and snag a FREE room for the party, the hotel has generously given us one free King room to raffle off. You can buy a room raffle ticket at any time between now and the October club meeting. Tickets are $5 for one, $10 for three, up to as many tickets as you want to buy. The drawing will be held at the October club meeting, and all proceeds go to the Christmas party fund. Your Superfluous Excellency, Mark White * Reprint from May issue, not a mistake. As Mark was tied up with other projects, this information seemed still very pertinent and timely. 4

8 News from your Activity Director June 2018 What s going on in our little world? A little different meme this month. We wrap up May with Memorial Day, honoring all of the brave warriors that have given so much in order that we may live free. When every brother, sister, husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, signed up to serve, they also signed a blanch check that covered everything including their lives. Then we jump into June with Vette for Vets chaired by Corvette Owners Club of Houston. They have asked that we join them and provide twelve Vettes to carry a vet out to Motor Sport Ranch in Angleton. Check out the flyer in this month s Grand Sport. May had more good road trips along with some excellent dining, and cutting up with friends. Check out the pictures for everything on the club websites and Face Book pages and see what you may have missed. Special thanks to those who were able to make it to car shows. In fact the representation was so good they garnered the most car award at the Fox and Hound show. Valerie s taking us back to Haak Winery for star gazing, with the NASA astrometry gurus, and I had to promise her I wouldn t ask them about Sheldon Cooper, and I that would behave. Great chance to play with our cars out at the Houston Police Academy on June 9 th and 10th. Fun and trying course that will make you say I can to that better. So, sign up for a couple of runs and you ll be hooked. If don t want to run, just watch (?) better yet help. There s plenty to do, and we can use your help. Remember there s no charge for learning, we will teach you for free. The following weekend we will be doing what I am calling, The before it gets too hot road trip. Something different for me, we will be taking I-10 as our primary route. Heading to New Braunfels, for some good food, terrific companionship, of course some wine and perhaps a ghost or two. Mr. Peabody, set the Way Back Machine. I have enjoyed everybody s articles on the trips and look forward to reading about the Ashville/ Biltmore trip in next month s GS issue. Don t forget there is additional points for being a published author in the Grand Sport. So, amaze your fellow club members and put forth that skill received in that college communication course you took as an elective. 27 Updates from CorvetteRacing.com & Duane Lee Hard-fought third place for No. 3 Corvette in return to Mid-Ohio Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia earned a podium finish Sunday in Corvette Racing s return to Mid-Ohio Sports Car in the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio. The duo piloted their No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R to a third-place finish in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship s GT Le Mans (GTLM) class. The result vaulted Garcia and Magnussen into a fourth-place tie for the GTLM Driver Championship with Corvette teammates Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner. They placed eighth in GTLM on Sunday in the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R as the team returned to Mid-Ohio for the first time since Chevrolet is third in GTLM Manufacturer points three points out of first place as Corvette Racing takes a break from IMSA competition to travel to the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the 19th consecutive season. The Garcia/Magnussen duo began fifth, but Garcia gained a spot on the opening lap. The close level of competition and constant traffic around Mid-Ohio meant the No. 3 Corvette held its position for the middle of the race. It wasn t easy, especially for Magnussen who was part of a three-way fight for third place in class inside the final 40 minutes. He hung tough and made his move going into the first corner with 27 minutes left to move into podium position. Milner and Gavin started eighth, but the No. 4 Corvette moved up through the field with a strong start from Milner. He drove the opening hour before handing off to Gavin. The No. 4 squad had some of the worst luck with traffic and opted to pit with 70 minutes left in hopes of catching a caution period to gain track position. Unfortunately the race went green for the entire two hours and 40 minutes. Gavin eventually had to take a late splash of fuel two laps from the end. Corvette Racing s next event is the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June The team has won eight times in the French enduro. 27
