1 LESSON PLAN Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences Manchester College Teacher: Kalie Carlisle Date: October 16, 2008 Time Period: 1:05-1:30 Students: 14 Grade/Developmental Level: K-1 Developmental Level 1 Lesson Focus: Skipping Teaching Style: Problem Solving What happens when red and blue mix together? (purple) What happens when blue and yellow mix together? (green) What happens when red and yellow mix together? (orange) Standard(s) Standard 1 Standard 2 Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movements patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. Performance Objectives C A P The students will learn primary and secondary colors by using primary colored chalk to produce secondary colors with 100 percent accuracy. The students will demonstrate the feeling of joy and self accomplishment by accomplishing tasks in 25 minutes. The students will perform the skip while using primary colored chalk to mark on the wall by using the rhythm of step hop step hop 8 out 10 times. Equipment/Materials One whole roll of masking tape, 1 red hula hoop and rope, 1 yellow hula hoop and rope, 1 blue hula hoop and rope, 1 green hula hoop and rope, 1 orange hula hoop and rope, 1 purple hula hoop and rope, 3 green balls, 3 orange balls, and 3 purple balls. Skill Development Instant Activity Six Stations Fitness Activity Fun with plates 1. Gallop with the red plate counter clockwise 2. Making Os while holding yellow plate 3. Squat with blue plate 4. Slide with red plate clockwise
2 5. Holding yellow plate front arm raises 6. Bring knee up to blue plate 7. Skip with red plate counter clockwise 8. Above head rise yellow plate up and down 9. Butt kicks while pulling blue plate backwards and forwards Introduction/Set Induction Today we are going to learn about primary and secondary colors. Do you all know what the three primary colors are? After some experimenting we are going to learn what primary colors mixed together make secondary colors. Secondary colors are all created from primary colors. Introduce New Skill Explanation and Demonstration Skipping is done by taking a step with one leg followed by bring the knee up from the other. The rhythm is step hop step hop. You swing your arm that is opposite from the knee coming up. Can you all step hop step hop? Guided Practice Activity 1. Everyone pick up a red colored chalk 2. Everyone will counter clockwise walk along the wall holding the chalk in their right hand and coloring the top portion marked for red. 3. Everyone pickup a blue colored chalk 4. Everyone will run clockwise along the holding the chalk in their left hand and coloring the top middle portion marked for blue. 5. Everyone pickup a yellow colored chalk 6. Everyone will sliding counter clockwise along the wall holding the chalk in their right hand clockwise and coloring the bottom middle portion marked yellow. 7. Everyone pick up a red colored chalk 8. Everyone will galloping clockwise around the wall holding the chalk in their left hand coloring the bottom portion marked red. 9. Everyone pickup a blue color chalk 10. Everyone will jump counter clockwise around the wall holding the chalk in the right hand coloring the bottom of the red and blue. 11. Everyone pickup a red color chalk 12. Everyone will jump clockwise around the wall holding the chalk in the left hand coloring the top portion of the blue. 13. What color did you discover between the red and blue? (purple) 14. Everyone pick up yellow chalk 15. Everyone will hop counter clockwise on the right foot holding the chalk in the right hand coloring the bottom of the blue area. 16. Everyone pick up blue chalk

Everyone pick up the red chalk 20. Everyone will leap counter clockwise holding the chalk in the right hand coloring the bottom of the yellow area 21. Everyone pickup the yellow chalk 22. Everyone will leap clockwise holding the chalk in the left hand coloring the top portion of the red area. 23. What color did you discover between the yellow and red? (Orange) Group Activity Color Dice Fitness - Students will be broken up into 6 groups where they will roll a color die. - After the students roll the die they will go to the color of the die s area and pulled the number of the card that the die landed on. - The students will flip over the card and perform the task on the card until told to stop. - Students will then come to the center and roll the color die that is to the left of their last color. - Each station will be 15 seconds.
