She played flag football and softball and liked math when she was in school. She wishes that all kids could get along together. They should be a principal for one day. Mrs. Prady says that she gets nervous talking in front of adult crowds. The thing that makes her happy is going to the beach. Science Fair By Maziah Stuart Mrs. McGuire By Jazmine Valencia and Rahil Tahir Mrs. Deondra McGuire was born on November 2nd in Riverside County. She went to college at Riverside Community College and University of California Riverside. She has been teaching since She is very proud of finishing college. Mrs. McGuire has a positive attitude. She teaches because she loves working with children. She loves spending time with her family and going to the beach. Her favorite things to do is watching The Notebook, movies with Meryl Streep and listening to country music. She prefers chocolate to vanilla, likes tacos, asparagus, and watermelon. Welcome Mrs. McGuire! This year s Science Fair had many amazing projects that were creative and unique. Mr. Mandelbaum was in charge. Congratulations to All of the winners! Think Together By Aliya Grihma and Nea Omi Johnson Mechele Gibson s project won at the District Science Fair and competed in the Riverside County. Congratulations Mechele! When the bell rings, you go to the blue tables to eat a snack, do your homework, and play games. The leaders are Miss Paige, Miss Desiree, Miss Karen, and Miss Irma. Mr. Josh is the main program leader. A fun part of the program is playing basketball against La Jolla Elementary and the cheerleaders. Another fun thing is we have pizza parties for the class that has the most marbles. Clearly, we like Think Together!

2 2 VOLUME 4 ISSUE Election News By Maziah Stuart 2016 was the Presidential election year! We had two candidates. Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton represented the Democratic party and Donald John Trump represented the Republican party. On Tuesday, November 8 was the election. The presidential elections are held every four years in November. We use the electoral college. In the election, Americans vote for a president and vice president but you really are voting for electors known as the electoral college. The electors choose the commander-in-chief. This is the president. Each state is assigned a number of electoral votes. The number of electoral votes for each state ranges from three to fifty four for a total of 538. The winner needs 270 electoral votes. The winner was Donald J. Trump. He took office on January 20, th Grade UCR Field Trip By Ryley Duran The University of California Riverside (UCR) is where the 5th graders went on a field trip. At UCR, we went to four different classes. One of the classes was music. It was cool because the teacher showed us an instrument that she made. We got to play it! Next, in the art class we made a project. We took two pieces of paper, drew on one side, put a string through both papers. When you twist it with your fingers, the images looked like they were moving. After lunch, we went to a music class. We were taught that when you can read song lyrics, it helps you read faster! Last of all, we saw the college students dance. It was awesome! Maybe you can go when you are in 5th grade! UCR Field Trip By Deztinee Ford I learned a lot from UCR. We went to an art class. We used two pieces of paper and drew an animal and a background for the animal. We cut pieces of yarn and twisted it back and forth. We then went to a music class and wrote our favorite songs on a piece of paper and the teacher raffled it off. We used Karaoke for our songs. We got to play an instrument called a Bohemian Cristal. Next, we went to lunch and took pictures with the bear mascot and the sign. The next class we went to was dance. We watched dancers. They changed costumes a lot through out their dance. 3 3 VOLUME 4 ISSUE 2 PAGE 3 Life of A Third Grader in Mrs. Miyake s Class By Jaylene Arias Room 15 A life of a third grader is fun especially when Mrs. Miyake is your teacher. I love being a third grader in Mrs. Miyake s class. One of the reasons I love her as a teacher is she is so funny. Next, she loves kids. She also loves to help out and she makes time for students. She makes learning fun and she encourages me to want to learn more. Another reason is that she is a giver not a seller. She loves to give to others. She makes it easier for her students. As you can see, this is why I love being a student in Mrs. Miyake s third grade class. Beach Bunny By Joseph Rincon Room 10 In the story there was a blue bunny. He was always prepared. His mom was prepared too! But when it was time to eat he didn t bring any food. But his mom did! Letters From Mrs. Humphreys First Grade Class Room 10 Dear Mrs. George Ella Lyons, I like your books a lot! It s not fair that every one has to pay for their water that they use. I like the book First Prize Plant and Counting On The Woods. Have you met your illustrator? How many sisters and brothers do you have? If you have 34 or 29, it would be a loud house. He was an All-Star two times, seven times a World Series Champion, and a MVP in He retired from the New York Yankees in By Rahil Tahir What Makes Popcorn Pop! By Ryley Duran What makes the popcorn pop is there is a tiny droplet of water in each kernel. The kernel is called a hull. When the hull is heated, it turns into steam which builds pressure. Since the hull is small, it can t hold the pressure. When it pops...it makes a piece of popcorn! This is weird but true. Back in the day in Mexico, people thought there were demons in the hull. When the hull got hot, the demons got mad and exploded. Yep, that s weird, huh? Harry Potter started off not knowing most things about his past. He had a horrible aunt, uncle, and cousin. He was an orphan. Lord Voldemort wanted him not to live because of a prophecy said, A boy born at the end of July will defeat Voldemort. He is called The Boy Who Lived because he was the first ever wizard to be able to repel a curse with no cure. Harry also got bullied and had no friends until Rubeus Hagrid came along and gave him his acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry helped a lot of people get over the bullying and helped them stand up for themselves. My personal opinion is that Harry Potter is a great series to read and watch. I m thankful that I came across this series. I am really happy that J.K. Rowling wrote it.

My teacher was Mrs. Davis. She was nice. I learned how to read. I also learned my numbers. I did lots of activities. My best friends were Giselle and Belle. We would play on the playground. If someone was done with their snack first, then we would wait. After we were done with our snack, we would go play on the swings together and ride tricycles. That was me in kindergarten. Rover can swim well, so Frank made him jump into the water after a stick. Jump. Rover! Jump in and get the stick, said Frank, and into the water Rover went with a big splash. Soon after he came out with the stick in his mouth. Rover did not like the game as much as Frank because the water was a little cold. They had a fine time for a while with Rover, and then set out for home because it was late in the day. They could not stay out long. On the way home, Rover saw a rabbit and away he went after it as fast as he could go. Ann and Frank ran too but could not keep up with Rover and the rabbit. When they got home, Rover was there. Frank said, where is the rabbit, Rover? Rover gave Frank a funny look and went away. Oh I know, said Frank, The rabbit ran so fast you could not catch it.
