2 Leaders Meeting The next leaders meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20nd at 6:30p.m. at the Marion County Extension Office. This meeting will be an over-view of the new online enrollment process. If you will be unable to attend please contact the Extension Office and let us know so we can get you scheduled to make up the Volunteer Training and get you the club materials from the meeting. Record Keeping It is time to start the Record Keeping process if you haven't already. Record Keeping/Awards Information packets are available at the Extension Office or on the web at: In order to receive any awards members must turn in a complete Record Book for the year applying for. All record books will be brought to the Marion County Extension Office by October 1st. Get your record keeping packet today and start it as soon as possible! If you have any questions contact your Club Leader or the Marion County Extension Office. Iowa State Fair Exhibits All exhibits are ready to be picked-up at the Extension Office! Junior Master Gardeners If you are in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade and want to get involved in fun projects while you learn about growing things, contact Karen Ackley (Marion County Ag/Horticulture Assistant) at kackley@iastate.edu or If you are interested in becoming a co-leader of JMG, please contact Karen Ackley at the Extension Office. Judges Training A 4-H Judge's Training will be offered on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. 1:1:5 p.m. at the ISU Extension Office - Polk County, 1625 Adventureland Drive, Suite A, Altoona IA. You will learn from Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development staff, experienced 4-H judges and 4-H members how to evaluate, educate and encourage 4-H'ers exhibiting at county fairs. After attending the training, your name will be entered into the statewide 4-H Judges Database. Registration deadline is September 30, 2011 and cost $15. The training is limited so get your registrations in early. For registration information, visit 2

3 Congratulations to everyone who exhibited/competed at the Iowa State Fair. Marion County was well represented and all of you should be proud of your accomplishments! THANK YOU NOTES Don t forget to write Thank you notes to anyone that supported you at the fair as well as through out the 4- H year. Make sure you include your trophy sponsors if you won a trophy at the fair and also make sure you get one out to those who purchased your livestock at the fair. I encourage you to handwrite all thank you notes and make sure you explain what trophy you received from them or what specific animal they purchased or let them know what they have done for you this year that you have appreciated. A simple handwritten thank you note means a great deal to the people who have supported you! County Council Membership Each club can nominate ONE member who is in grades 9th-12th to be on County Council. There will be TEN at large positions that will be available through application and interview process. County Council is a leadership position that is a privilege and should be valued as such. Applications are due to the Marion County Extension Office by October 1st. If you are interested in being on County Council and your club does not elect new officers until the October meeting, please apply for an at large position in case you are not selected by your club! You can pick up an application at the Marion County Extension Office or find it online at: countycouncil.htm Cook This! Stitch This!
