This newsletter gives parents tips to help their children succeed in school. It is a valuable newsletter with a lot of good information. The newsletter is available at their website: 1

2 Record Keeping It is time to start the Record Keeping process if you haven't already. Record Keeping/Awards Information packets are available at the Extension Office or on the web at: In order to receive any awards members must turn in a complete Record Book for the year applying for. All record books will be brought to the Marion County Extension Office by October 1st. Get your record keeping packet today and start it as soon as possible! If you have any questions contact your Club Leader or the Marion County Extension Office. Iowa State Fair Exhibits All exhibits are ready to be picked-up at the Extension Office! THANK YOU NOTES Don t forget to write Thank you notes to anyone that supported you at the fair as well as through out the 4-H year. Make sure you include your trophy sponsors if you won a trophy at the fair and also make sure you get one out to those who purchased your livestock at the fair. I encourage you to handwrite all thank you notes and make sure you explain what trophy you received from them or what specific animal they purchased or let them know what they have done for you this year that you have appreciated. A simple handwritten thank you note means a great deal to the people who have supported you! County Council Membership Each club can nominate ONE member who is in grades 9th-12th to be on County Council. There will be at large positions that will be available through an application process. County Council is a leadership position that is a privilege and should be valued as such. Applications are due to the Marion County Extension Office by October 1st. If you are interested in being on County Council and your club does not elect new officers until the October meeting, please apply for an at large position in case you are not selected by your club! You can pick up an application at the Marion County Extension Office or find it online at: 2

3 Animal Science Club What the Animal Science Club is All About: Gain hands on experience with a variety of animals Learn about how to care for animals Each month is a different animal/ topic Field trips to local farms for hands on experience * You do not have to own or show animals to be a part of the club The Facts Who: Youth 4th-12th grade What: Animal Science Club Where: Marion County Extension Office 210 N. 4 Record Books Record books are due to the Marion County Extension Office by October 1st to be considered for awards. All of the forms are available online ( record-keeping-forms) or you can pick them up at the Extension Office. We will not be hosting a formal record book workshop this year. Instead, please let us know if you need help. We can sit down one-on-one to complete your record book. Please contact Mindy kephartm@iastate.edu or (641) to set up a time. If it works in my schedule, I would be more than happy to meet outside of office hours. Intermediate Camp Out October Intermediate 4-H Campout (Marion & Jasper Counties) $35 Join us for an over-night adventure at the 4-H Center in Madrid! We will get to hang out with 4-H members from Jasper county while we participate in activities like: Creek Walk Challenge Course Night Hike Rock Wall Telescope Activities with the Ames Amateur Astronomy Club If you are an intermediate 4-H member, be looking in the mail for a more detailed itinerary as well as a registration form.
