We are very happy that so many members signed up to help us with organizing events and being a part of our board in You can find a list of our volunteers on the website. volunteers the possibility to join the club. If you are interested in such a program, please let Dale know. You can find more information about the Horse Masters Program in this newsletter. We are off to a good start this year with stable management lessons for all our members and riding lessons for those that signed up for winter riding. The weather has been great, so we haven t had to cancel many of these lessons. Let s hope we will have an early spring, so we can start riding outside again soon. Membership So far we have had about 20 members sign up. It is good to see both returning members and new members to the club. Welcome everyone! We will stop accepting new members on March 31st, This will give us enough time to hire the right amount of coaches according to the members we have signed up at that time. An exception will be made for siblings that turn 6 during the year and want to join as well. The membership fees for our regular riding program will not change for It will be $ for Cochrane Pony Club. The National and Regional fees are $ Total membership fee for 2015 will be $ The first events we will be working toward are the Regional Quiz, organized by the Wheatland branch on April 18th and our own Show Jumping show on April 25th. Please remember that we will stop accepting new members to the club on March 31st 2015, so get your forms in before that date! There is also good news for adults that would love to join the pony club program. 2 Winter riding fees are maintained at $ So if you want to include winter riding in your membership the total fees are $ You will need a valid AEF number to be able to sign up for Pony Club. Visit their website to get or extend a membership with them. This year we will also ask for two post- dated volunteer commitment cheques, 50 dollars each. During the year there will be several opportunities to volunteer, either during one of the shows we organize (show jumping show, D Rally, C Rally) or the work bees in the spring and in the fall. We ask for a commitment of 4 hours volunteer work for each cheque. If you have fulfilled this commitment we will return the cheques to you, otherwise we will cash them in October. AGM Our AGM was well attended and we were able to fill up most of our volunteer positions and have a large board this year. Looking forward to an active new year. Our board for 2015 consists of the following members: DC: Dale Palmer, ADC & Treasurer: Annette Buis, Secretary: Cathy Taylor, Members at Large: Karen Solomon, Shelley McKenzie, Sarah Alexander and Marybeth Murray. Alberta South Region Cochrane Pony Club is part of the Alberta South Region. They have a new website, where you can find information on the National and Regional events that will be held each year. Here you can also find information on the different branches in our region, plus information on the different mounted and unmounted disciplines in Pony Club. The website address is: tasouth/ Alberta South Regional Quiz This year s regional quiz will be held in Strathmore on April 18 th and is organized by Wheatland Pony Club. The theme for this year s quiz is show your spirit. For those planning to attend quiz, we will have a mock quiz on April 11 th. More information and the forms to sign up for the Quiz will follow. National Quiz The National Quiz will also be hosted in our Region, in October. About 135 members from all over Canada will join us in Calgary to compete and have fun together. Hosting this event will cost a lot of money, so the Region is looking for ways to fundraise $20,000. They will organize a raffle and two silent auctions to set off some of these costs. If you have any other ideas for fundraising, please let us know. If you can find a company willing to donate, or you want to donate money to - 2 -

3 the Pony Club yourself, we can issue tax receipts. The Canadian Pony Club ( CPC ) is a not for profit organization, and carries Canadian registered charity status. Horse Masters Program The Canadian Pony Club is setting up a program for adult volunteers under the name Horse Masters Program. Canadian Pony Club develops young horse people in both riding and stable management skills. We develop character, loyalty and sportsmanship. We teach leadership, responsibility and the value of teamwork. All of this is developed through a program that teaches the care of horses and ponies, riding and mounted sports. Safety of the members and their horses and ponies is one of the prime considerations during all activities. The Horse Master program is for Adult Volunteers who understand and support the aims and objectives of Pony Club. They will follow the Pony Club standards to learn more about riding and horse care, share their knowledge with the Active Members, and enjoy meeting and sharing time with like- minded adults. As they develop their own skills, they will be encouraged to help with teaching the younger members and may also wish to become part of the examiners list in their Region. This program will be a pilot within a couple of branches in Canada and Cochrane Pony Club would like to try and become a part of this pilot. Please let Dale know if you would like to be part of this program. We are looking for adults, over the age of 21, who are Pony Club Parents, Volunteers or Alumni. You would become an associate member of Cochrane Pony Club and will pay fees, as set out by the branch. You will also need to have an AEF membership. Members of the Horse masters Program will have access to lessons, clinics and camps (mounted and unmounted) offered by the Branch or the Region, providing the needs of all Active Members have already been met. The cost of such activities will be set by the Branch or Region hosting the activity. Membership in the Horse masters Program is a privilege, not a right. All members are expected to be familiar with all Pony Club policies and to adhere to our rules and philosophies. They will be expected to give back to Pony Club with volunteer hours. Testing will not be offered in the first year of the pilot project but may be offered after that, if there is sufficient interest. So again: Please let Dale know if you are interested in joining this program. We will need at least 5 adults to be able to set this up in our branch. Show jumping show On April 25 th we will organize our next show jumping show, indoors in the arena of the AG Society

4 We will need volunteers to help with set up and clean up and running the show during the day. A call for volunteers will go out at the beginning of April. Stable Management Our stable management lessons on Wednesday evenings are well attended. It is a pleasure to see everybody so interested in the theoretical aspects of good horsemanship! They will be a good preparation for Quiz and testing in the fall. Alberta South Regional Education Conference On March 21 and 22 the Region will organize an education conference in Delacour. Lecturers include Dr. Louis Corbett, Carolyn Willekes and Kendra Maitland AHT. There will be presentations on the History of the horse, an interactive presentation on colic, an informative presentation about Pony Club testing, plus others to be announced. Information stations will be set up for Pony Club Dressage, Prince Philip Games, Quiz, Rally, Show Jumping/Medals and Tetrathalon. There will be information stations about bits, tack, feeding, bones and the body, foot and shoeing, teeth, breeds and colours. Helmet and safety vest fit. More information and registration forms will follow through . 5 Cochrane Pony Club Camp Our year would not be complete without a summer camp. The date for this year s camp is July 13 till 17, If you have any fun ideas for this camp, pleas let the organizers know. This year Allison Palmer, Helen Bouman, Shelley McKenzie, Sarah Alexander and Susan Grant- Suttie have stepped up to organize another great camp. ABC Camp This year the Region will be hosting an ABC camp again. This camp is for our C riders and up. It will be an overnight camp from August 5th till August 7th in Millarville. Preparations for this camp are starting and the organizers would like to know how many kids are interested in attending this camp. Please let Dale know if you would like to go to this camp.
