Box Shreveport, LA F R O M T H E P R E S I D E N T S DESK Even though I was on call the 3rd Saturday in March, I was able to go to the O'Reilly s Auto Parts grand opening celebration. Since the new store is right across Youree Drive from my Neighborhood, I was able to drive my Mustang to the show and park it close to the exit drive way in the event I got called out and had to leave. As luck would have it, I was able to stay for the day, with the work cell staying quiet for the duration of the celebration. We had 6 cars show up, including Dennis Shoup s classic Mustang, so for the most part most years were well represented. There were also a couple of Vettes that showed up and parked across from us. The Mopar club had us all beat with 10 cars present for the grand opening. It was a great day, the weather cooperated with us staying sunny but windy, allowing the O'Reilly s regional manager to cook up some good burgers, hot dogs and sausage for everyone that came out. They were giving away lots of swag too, things like air pressure gauges, microfiber cloths, hats, cups, pens all with the O'Reilly s logo on them. I was able to get Billy, the General Manager, one of our sponsorship forms, which he will pass on to upper management. The plan is to be a full sponsor for the club and the show in September. Billy and the rest of the guys there at the store seemed really stoked about sponsoring our show. As of this writing I have not heard anything from them. As it turns out, I need windshield wipers for my car, so I guess I ll run by there this week to pick some up and see how things are going. Thanks to all the club members that came out to O'Reilly s. We only had 6 cars considering that several hard-core members were at the MCA show in McAllen and could not attend. Since Mopar only had 10 cars, I think our club was well represented regardless of not out numbering Mopar. The following Saturday March 24th was the Mopar National Show at First Baptist Church on Ockley Drive in Shreveport. The weather was windy and cool at first, cloudy like it might rain, but eventually the sun started peeking out, and the Mopar Magic club ended up with over 103 registered cars at their show. We had 10 club members come out to help judge, which was more than I could ever have asked for. Mopar ended up with one too many judges, so I stayed behind and helped tally judging sheets. Thanks to all the club members who came out and helped Judge the Mopar National Show. They supplied the majority of the judges for our show last September, so I was thankful we had such a large number come out and return the favor. We may tease each other about the cars we drive, but it is always all in good fun. To help each other out from time to time will help prolong the car club scene in our community for many years to come.

3 The Pony Express Page 3 M CA NEWS The first show of the MCA show season was last month in McAllen, TX. Mark, Chris and Tina left early and the rest of us drove down on Wednesday. Rob arrived late due to battery problems. He received the nickname of Wayne Junior. On most of our trips we've usually had someone with car problems. Wayne would be proud that Rob was a good substitute. The hotel and convention center was awesome. I don't think I've seen a better show venue. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The hosting club did a great job. I would encourage everyone to visit McAllen, Tx. It's a beautiful town. All cars did well in the judging. We came back with 5 gold and 1 silver awards. I'm still learning what the judges are looking for on my Shelby. Maybe the next time. The next show is on the Memorial Day weekend in Grovetown, Ga. I've been to one of their shows before and they do a fantastic show. I encourage those who might be thinking about going to do so. I'll will not be able to attend. Have Granddaughter's graduation. 4 Page 4 The Pony Express S H OW T I M E Well our McAllen, Texas National show has come and gone and what a wonderful show it was. We learned much about what it takes to put on a National MCA show, a lot of work, community support and money. And we also learned that Max is a really good dancer, ha ha. Congratulations to all of our participants, out of the of the RRCMC that attended, we all brought home top awards. I d say that was a success. In other show news we have the Texarkana show coming up April 14th, it s their 25th annual show as well this year. Registration will begin at 8am, and it s per vehicle. A C T I V I T I E S & EVENT PLANNER Thanks to all those that came out and helped judge the Mopar show. I know that they appreciated it, we secured Ronnie Causey as our announcer for our own show. Also, Jean and I found out some great information pertaining to food vendors for our show. We even received a free frozen lemonade out of it and it was delicious. So, keep all the Pony s gassed up and ready to get on the road. JUST SAYIN KAY 600 miles! The distance from Shreveport to McAllen, Texas site of the Lone Star Mustang National 2018 MCA Car Show. Ten members of the RRCMC made the trip for the March weekend to participate in the show. McAllen is deep in the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas and is so far south that we were only five miles from Mexico. The show hosted by the South Texas Mustang Club was the first national show held by the club and the first MCA National of the year. The venue was the McAllen Convention Center and everyone that wanted to be parked inside could. There were 177 cars registered with 117 judged by certified MCA Judges. Six club cars captured Gold Awards with one Silver Award. Congratulations to Donna and Max Arends, Tom and Jean Hughes, Rusty and Kay Rhame, Tina and Chris Ponder, Rob Widner and Mark Winderweedle on their awards. The next MCA National Show is in Grovetown, Georgia over the Memorial Day weekend. Registration for the show ends May 5, 2018, hope to see you there. I ll call the owner and plan a day before it gets to hot I think we would only have the morning for 4 Cars to Dyno. Will get planned. After our Meeting in May we will eat Dinner at Country Tavern in Shreveport!
