2 RCCC Happy New Year to everyone, President s Message I want to again thank each of you for the honor of serving as club president for 2007, and for reelecting me for another year. I really consider it a privilege, and will do the best I can to make 2008 an even better, more enjoyable year than last year. We had a lot of fun last year, and I will not restate all the different events in which we participated. We closed out the year with a bang at our Christmas party on December 7 at the Bessie Smith Hall. What a super time. If you weren t there I urge you to make plans to get there next year. You missed a really good party. Thanks to everyone who worked to make it such a success. All I did was show up. We are planning to participate in several out of town events this year, including a few overnight trips. I am checking into dates for the Vettes in the Valley show at Maggie Valley, NC, and the Vettes by the Shore show in Biloxi, MS. Several members have attended both of these shows in the past, and have enjoyed the trips a lot. I have asked Mike Nabors, and he has agreed, to coordinate our activities, such as dinner cruises. That doesn t mean that we will just let Mike do it all. Everyone needs to participate by coming up with ideas for cruises, and by scheduling them. Mike will take care of notifying the membership and be sure that all of us have plenty of advance notice of events. Please take the time to organize an event this year. If there is something that sounds like fun to you, chances are that the rest of us will enjoy it, too. Just a reminder that our annual dues are payable now. Still just $25 a year. What a bargain. You can mail your check, payable to River City Corvette Club, to the club post office box address shown on our web page. Finally, I want to thank all the officers, and all the members who worked to make 2007 a successful year for our club, and I look forward to working with all of you during the coming year. Oh yes, If you wish to serve in an appointed position, then let me know that as soon as possible. If you were in an appointed position last year and wish to continue in that position let me know. The board will meet Tuesday, January 8, at the DQ, and our next membership meeting will be Thursday, January 17 at O Charley s. I ll see you there. 3 Page 3 A legendary name with oh my gosh power! The old ZR-1 was hyphenated. The new one isn t. The old one was King of the Hill. The new one is well, King of the Hill. And oh my gosh, look at those wheels! A supercharged Vette! Who d a think GM would go for that? A plexi-glass view window on the top so you can see the supercharger - ok, it s cover. A high rise hood (about an inch higher than normal). If you want to make your normal C6 look like this one you ll have a tougher time faking it. You ll need more than fenders, nose and emblems. Wow! The top of the car is all carbon fiber! The hood is all carbon fiber except for that plexi-glass window. There are other differences between it and a Z06, notably a different slitter, side skirts, side vents and a slightly larger air dam on the back. Riding on the Z06 aluminum chassis. Ok, what about the engine and the horses? Well, it isn t the LS7 from the Z06. GM started with the LS3 from the 2008 Model C6, mainly because of the thicker cylinder walls for the intended amount of horsepower. Also GM wanted to market 100 hp per liter, and the 6.2 liter LS3 engine accomplishes that at 620 horsepower. We think that may be a little light for what s actually there, but who knows, GM hasn t released the actual HP rating yet. There s dual plate clutch (sorry, again, no automatics here) and a beefed up gearbox to handle the additional load from all that horsepower. Did I mention the wheels? They are absolutely gorgeous. No cheap stuff here either forged aluminum alloys, from Speedline.!0x19 fronts and 20x12 s in the rear, and they come with Michelin PS2 s. Behind the wheels are Brembo brakes with vented and slotted rotors, the largest that will fit behind the wheels. OK, that s most of it. Wonder where I can get some aftermarket wheels that look like that???!!! Oh yeah the price. MSRP at $100,000 plus. Plus what? We don t know, but you can count on a market price adjustment in addition to whatever the MSRP turns out to be from the dealers to tick off all the Corvette forum readers. It s gonna happen. Better get your order in! Editor
4 Page 4 And Boy is it ever Yellow It's yellow. The tail lights, while they glow red when they are on, are masked in yellow. The rear window on the hatch, with its magnificent Corvette emblem, is masked in yellow. According to Wayne, he likes red! Wayne and linda Ostrum, own this beautiful 2005 C6 Coupe. It's been everywhere on trips with Club members, including Florida, Kentucky, and other parts unkown. Right off, Wayne and Linda began the process of making it their personalized car. There was the usual purchase of Corsa exhausts to get that snarly sound we all love to hear. And some little things, like some crystal like Corvette decals that went on the clear headlight covers that look like they are etched into the cover. (I thought that was subtle, but really, really cool!). Then came yellow paint for the brake calipers with polished inserts through Mike and John, and C6 Z06 chrome wheels and new tires from Bridgestone to go with them. The biggest thing though are the decals. The Ostrums really wanted this Corvette to stand out. It helped to have a son-in-law that is in the decal business (who, by the way joined our club last year) who gave them a professional installation. The yellow coverings on the hatch and the rear lighting are done with perforated decals, which allow the lights to glow red when they should and give you full vision from the inside of the car, but restrict vision from the outside. Then there's the flames in orange and yellow. Wow, does this car stand out! In addition, when you get close, there are ghostly skulls within the flames. It makes the car stand out and unique. Not like anyone else's, which was the result Wayne and Linda desired. Admittedly, this look isn't for everyone. The most important part is that Wayne and Linda like it, and according to Wayne, if they get tired of it they can always pull of some or all of the decals and do something different, or return the car to its stock look. I like the skulls. This car might be nicknamed, "Pirates of the Chattanoogan"! Editor
5 *'Twas The Day After Christmas* Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the house, Every creature was hurting-- even the mouse. The toys were all broken, their batteries dead; Santa passed out, with some ice on his head. Wrapping and ribbons just covered the floor, while Upstairs the family continued to snore. And I in my T-shirt, new Reeboks and jeans, Went into the kitchen and started to clean. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the sink to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the curtains, and threw up the sash. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a little white truck, with an oversized mirror. The driver was smiling, so lively and grand; The patch on his jacket said "U.S. POSTMAN." With a handful of bills, he grinned like a fox Then quickly he stuffed them into our mailbox. Bill after bill, after bill, they still came. Whistling and shouting he called them by name: "Now Dillard's, now Broadway's, now Penney's and Sears Here's Levitz's and Target's and Mervyn's--all here!! To the top of your limit, every store, every mall, Now chargeaway-chargeaway-chargeaway all!" He whooped and he whistled as he finished his work. He filled up the box, and then turned with a jerk. He sprang to his truck and he drove down the road, Driving much faster with just half a load. Then I heard him exclaim with great holiday cheer, "ENJOY WHAT YOU GOT... YOU'LL BE PAYING ALL YEAR!" Author Unknown Provided by: John Lemons Page 5 Put it on your calendar! Hi Mike, we appreciate your interest! Please find attached a copy of one of the show flyers. I will forward some copies along with some registration forms and send those to you via snail mail. I have also attached a copy of the registration form. PLEASE let us know when you guys may have a show, we ALWAYS try our best to support the clubs that have supported us. Thanks again and we hope to see you guys there. We try to attend at least one major car show, sometimes more. We endeavor to hold one car show for a charity, as we did in conjunction with the Lion's Club's annual picnic last year. We supply Corvettes for High School Homecomings every year, and participate in as many Christmas parades as possible. We meet on Tuesday nights at the DQ and at the Sonic in Soddy Daisy (Kay's Kastle when its too cold to sit outside) on Fridays. It's a pretty active club. No one is required to participate in everything (or anything for that matter). It's quite a job to keep all this going, and thanks to active club members that suggest outings, events, or take the lead (Thanks to those that take such an active role, especially to Jerry Ray for his efforts with the Homecomings and parades every year). There is a "core group" of club members that participate in many of the events, but also plenty of not so active members (but still greatly appreciated) that don't. Hopefully this year, we can do some new things that spike the interest of the not so active members. We're planning much more "promotion" for events than we have had in the past, and that's not to say there won't be spur of the moment events that come up, too. Coming to a Race Track near US!! The first big event is March 8 - the MACC Attack show in Birmingham. It's an early in the year, short trip, which can be an overnighter or a one day trip, you can choose. It's at the Barber Motorsports track in Birmingham, and yes, there are opportunities for track time. John Lemons and I participated in the rally last year put on by the Tri-county Club, and we had an absolute blast. As soon as we know when they are doing it this year, we'll begin that promotion. I am thinking of a "Magical Mystery Tour," as a possible event, also, but more on that later. We want to know your ideas on events and trips, and how to make them more exciting (hard to do, when Corvettes are involved!) Mike Nabors, Events Coordinator
