Note about Fall Enrichment Fees: All Fall Band and Color Guard fees must be paid off to earn a spot in the Winter Guard program. Attendance Policy Attendance is required at all Winter Guard rehearsals. Parents should plan to pick up students 10 minutes after rehearsal concludes, allowing time to make announcements and clean up. Students are expected to attend every rehearsal for the full time scheduled. Missing any rehearsal without prior permission is 100% unacceptable. All other events are pre-planned and available for your viewing on the Vols Band website. ( Work is not an excuse to miss practice. To excuse an absence, a form of consent signed by your parent or guardian must be filled out and turned into Dylan Perez or Mr. Baker at least two weeks prior to rehearsal. Any pattern of absences may result in dismissal from the program. Equipment When equipment is distributed, you are to maintain proper care over it. Your name must be printed BOLDLY and CLEARLY on every piece of equipment you spin in the show. This means that flags are to be taped completely with cheater tapes in the correct area. A school rifle will be issued to you for your use if you make the weapon line, you also have the option of purchasing your own rifle. All equipment must be returned back at the end of the season. Once a month, every person is required to bring an item to store in Stanley, items include but are not limited to: electrical tape, bobby pins, hair ties, etc.

4 Guard Room Etiquette THE GUARD ROOM WILL BE KEPT CLEAN AND ORGANIZED AT ALL TIMES. When equipment is put away, it is put away neatly in its respectable bin. Personal items that are kept in the guard room are unattended at your own risk. It is not our responsibility if any of your items are lost or stolen. Nobody other than the guard or members of the winter guard is allowed in the guard room for ANY reason. If items are left in the guard room during a school day, they are inaccessible throughout the day as the guard room is locked after first period. You must wait until eighth period or after school to retrieve your items. Social Media Policy No pictures in uniforms, tracks of show music and show concepts or ideas may be released to ANY social networking site until Dylan Perez has given the guard permission. Inappropriate comments are not permitted regarding the Robert E. Lee Color Guard, members, staff, or scores. (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram) Using social media in a negative way will result in strict consequences. Do not jeopardize the image of the Robert E. Lee Color Guard by posting any negative things online. Expectations in School You are expected to attend all your classes and maintain adequate grades. Just like at shows, you are representing our program. Excessive skipping will result in removal from the program. Any Color Guard commitment is NOT an excuse to miss class, unless assigned by Mr. Baker and approved by your teacher. If you are in the Color Guard class, you are expected to come prepared and on time. Being prepared means always having dress out clothes at the ready, gloves at hand, and the appropriate equipment with you. Class starts at 3:21 P.M. sharp unless instructed otherwise.

5 Hygiene Nails keep length of finger tips natural and medium length as they may interfere with your spinning abilities. Absolutely no acrylics! Jewelry It is dangerous to wear jewelry during any performance or rehearsal. You don t want to endanger yourself. Hair during rehearsal your hair is to be neatly tied back into a high pony or bun with your bangs out of your face. Water Jugs Clean out your water jugs often and try to thoroughly wash as bacteria will produce. Again, DO NOT SHARE WATER. We recommend a regular intake of vitamin C. When you work so hard it s easy to attract various sicknesses. If you get hurt, don t be afraid to ask for help. Don t let an injury get worse over time. Bring deodorant! A good smelling guard is a great guard! Rehearsal Etiquette It is imperative that you arrive to every rehearsal on time. If practice is scheduled for 5:30, that is NOT the drop off time. Arrive fifteen minutes early to pull the floor, etc. There is to be NO TALKING during stretch and conditioning block, while a figure of authority is talking/giving instruction, between sets, during warm ups, during meetings or while we are spinning. Appropriate attire must be worn at ALL TIMES! What is appropriate attire? Blacks: All black attire. If you are wearing shorts or tank tops, no logos can be showing. Tights CAN NOT have holes, rips or tears. Boys: Basketball shorts or black sweat pants. Hair: Girls must have hair pulled back, no fly aways or bangs out. Make sure you look presentable at all times.

6 Performance Etiquette When we arrive at the designated show site, no matter where it is, no matter who is there, you are ALWAYS being watched! Because of this, you begin your performance the second you step off the bus! All hair and makeup must be 100% done and approved BEFORE we reach the site. No cursing, rude comments, horse playing and disrespect towards other members, staff or other groups. When in uniform, at a show site you are to be on your best behavior. All eating and bathroom runs must be done at least fifteen minutes before scheduled warm up. Stay aware of ALL meeting times and places. It is of the utmost importance that you report to the group and meeting place ten minutes before the time is given as we are on a tight schedule. Failure to comply too any of these rules may result in you being excluded from the performance that night. When in the stands during a performance you are to refrain from talking and you must show the utmost respect for the ensemble on the field. Clapping and cheering is encouraged. Respond the way you would want the audience to respond to you during your show. Friendly Reminders Color Guard is a sport that requires athleticism, dedication, sportsmanship, spirit, cooperation, trust, patience, friendship and above all else, FUN. If you are frustrated or unsure of yourself, just breathe. You won t get everything right the first time, or even the tenth time, but relax and be patient. Nothing worthwhile is easy to achieve. Everyone needs to be 100% dedicated to this team, or the show won t work the way it should. Always strive to do better than you did the rehearsal before. Believe in yourself! Laugh with your fellow teammates, smile when you perform, make long lasting memories, and if you are second guessing yourself, just go for it! You ve got nothing to lose. Work hard and enjoy the journey! No one ever said it was easy, they just said it would be worth it.
