108 Youth of '89 soccer team is a factor Considering the youth of this year's soccer team, Coach Rock Emmert was pleased with the overall effort. Eight of the regulars were eighth and ninth graders. On Oct. 10, 1989, the FP soccer team closed out their season with a disappointing 4-1 loss to Jasper. On Oct. 7, 1989, the Rangers were eliminated from the sectional tournament, held at Mitchell, when they lost to Evansville Central 9-0. Coach Emmert said, "Losing key players from last year like Hamilton, Knies and Schipp really hurt us. But the varsity experience of the younger players will strengthen their play in the future." Coach Emmert said there are four changes he would like to see for FP soccer. First, he would like to see an organized junior high program with a schedule of their own. Second, he said, "I'd like to see a revised high school schedule that would allow us to compete with schools more at our level." Third, he thinks deserving high school soccer players should earn varsity letters. And fourth he would like to see more adult support and leadership, ideally in the form of an organized soccer booster club. 1. Chris Zink heads the ball toward the net. 2.
