1 Culver News Class of 2017 Donates Nearly $28,000 to Culver The Class of 2017 presented Culver Academies with a gift of $27, during the final Academic Convocation of the school year in May. The gift, presented by class presidents Hannah Brumback and Thomas Schacht, will be used to serve two purposes. In making the presentation to Head of Schools Jim Power, Brumback (New Albany, Ohio) and Schacht (Indianapolis) said part of the funds will be used to purchase outdoor furniture for lakeside patio of the Roberts Hall of Science and the Dicke Hall of Mathematics. The remaining funds will be used to establish a fund to assist students with the purchase of class rings. The class also presented the Ralph N. Manuel Awards, which are given to a male and female faculty or staff member who, in the opinion of the CLASS OF 2005 Back, back, to Culver days Old memories how they THRILL me! student body, best exemplify the ideals of Culver. Lt. Col. William Farmer of the mathematics department and Ashley Paulson, assistant hockey coach and wellness instructor, were presented with the awards. CMA Lacrosse ranked No. 1 in Super 25 Poll Three impressive wins in five days at the Inter-Ac Invitational, including a 9-5 championship victory over Haverford School (Pa.), has lifted the Culver Military Academy prep lacrosse team to No. 1 in the USA Today Super 25 high school poll. This was Culver s second straight Inter-Ac title. CMA went from third to the top spot in the Super 25 poll by virtue of its strength of schedule. USA Today cited the Eagles five wins over other Super 25 teams, including No. 3 Hill Academy (Ont.) and No. 9 McDonogh (Md.). A home victory over an impressive Everest Academy (Ont.) team added to the mix. The Eagles are ranked No. 3 in both the U.S. Lacrosse and Magazine and Inside Lacrosse polls. June, 2017 REGISTER NOW: Celebrate Summer at Culver Homecoming 2017 On Saturday, July 15 th Summer Camp alumni can relive the excitement of Comm. Relay/Great Race! Whether you choose to compete or cheer, this is your chance to be part of one of Culver s most memorable events. Saturday s events will also include ONE Culver Celebration Dinner, Garrison Parade and Post-Parade Rendezvous & Bonfire. On Sunday, July 16 th, all summer campers, parents, alumni and families are invited to enjoy the festivities at the Culver Summer Carnival. 2 1 st Annual Culver Connections Weekend There are many ways to give to Culver, and admittedly, we can often focus on giving financial gifts. But in this Newsletter, we'd like to focus on giving through non-financial means. Whenever you attend a Culver Club event, whenever you connect with a fellow alumnus/a to share memories, whenever you volunteer your time and talents in support of the Class, and whenever you give advice to a younger alumnus/a when they reach out seeking your advice... you're giving to the Culver community. It's this kind of giving that's just as--and probably even more--valuable to the Culver experience than any financial gift you can give. One shining example of giving to Culver was the first annual "Culver Connections" weekend in March, formerly known as the annual Ethical Decision Making Symposium, which saw over 100 alumni from across generations come to campus for a weekend of relationship building and mentoring. Among other events, current 1st Classmen and Seniors attended a career-fair style event and participated in mock behavioral interviews, much like they will when they prepare to enter the professional world. Several members of the Class of 2005 contributed to Culver Connections weekend this year, including: Christine Hannon, Vicki Irizarry, Chris Jay, Nick Ramtin & Sarah Wilcox And as always, thanks to all of you who did graciously give financially as well this year--we don't want to downplay the importance of your gifts to the Culver Annual Fund, as the Fund helps ensure a limited need to down on the Endowment. With a surge of giving during the "March Matchup" competition, Fiscal Year 2017 (ending June 30, 2017), has seen the highest level of participation from our Class of 2005 since we graduated from Culver 12 years ago. Nearly 80 classmates gave this year and that s something to be proud of! Thank you, Shane Giuliani
