BRITISH CROWN GREEN BOWLING ASSOCIATION BCGBA 2017 SENIOR INDIVIDUAL MERIT Griff & Coton Sports Club, Nuneaton (CV10 7JQ) The 2017 Senior Indiidual Merit is upon us and takes place on its traditional last Saturday of July (29th), this year hosted by North Midlands at Griff & Coton Sports Club in Nuneaton. It will be a proud day for the BCGBA President, Phil Brown, and he will be hoping that one of his six county qualifiers Paul Lamb, Darren Plenderleith, Shane Day, Ben Percial, Jim Robertson and Stuart Perry will lift the coeted trophy. Perry won the All England in 1998 at Victoria Park (North Lancs & Fylde) with a ictory oer Paul Wilson of the home county and starts his quest for a second title against South Yorkshire s Neil Fletcher. There are three preious winners in this year s line-up, John Taylor, Callum Wraight and Thomas Vickers. Wraight, champion in 2009 when he defeated Glynn Cookson (Cheshire) in an epic final at the Northern Club (Merseyside), is first on the green and faces Warwick & Worcester s Adam Kirby in his opener. Vickers will be hoping to add to his 2015 success which saw him ictorious in a highly charged atmosphere at Florence Tennis & Bowling Club (Potteries & District) ending Gareth Herbert s (Warwick & Worcester) hopes of a first title in a triumph while Taylor takes on Robert Winnington (Cheshire) in his opening round haing won the title back in 1993 at Dodworth Miners Welfare with a ictory oer Bob Gilfillan (North Midlands) There should hae been four former winners taking their place in the draw following Gary Ellis s ictory in the Greater Manchester Merit. Unfortunately, the two-time winner (2003 and 2012) is at a friend s wedding so will hae to miss the opportunity of making it a hattrick of titles. One thing that is for certain is that there will be new finalists this year as defending champion, Matt Gilmore, was unable to enter the Merseyside Merit while Andy Moss bowed out to Glyn Herbert in the quarter-finals of the Shropshire Merit. Admission on the day is 10 with a further 10 for those wanting a resered seat. As most of those in attendance will be traelling from the North, Junction 3 of the M6 is probably the best exit to leae the motorway with the greens no more than ten minutes drie away. Food and drinks will be aailable all day but spectators are reminded that they are NOT allowed to take their own food and drink into the enue or their own chairs. Lie scores will be updated on the BCGBA website bcgba.org.uk - as the competition progresses and Globegig will be streaming the latter stages oer the internet, which usually begin around 2pm. 1 P a g e

2017 ENDSLEIGH SENIOR COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP Shropshire will be hoping to reach their second successie ENDSLEIGH Senior County Championship final and make up for last season s disappointment of losing out to Yorkshire. They hae tasted success twice before, in 1974 and 2009, but face formidable opposition in North Midlands in their semi-final, themseles former winners in It should be an intriguing match with green selection likely to play a big part in the oerall result. Shropshire are using Greenfields No 2 green (SY1 2QN) while North Midlands hae opted for Dunlop Sports No 2 green (CV6 4AU). The second semi-final, Potteries & District South Yorkshire, should also proe to be an intriguing clash and it will be good to see two counties that hae each only appeared twice in the Crosfield Cup final get the opportunity play in the final again. Potteries defeated Yorkshire in the 1982 final but lost out to Cheshire two years later. South Yorkshire claimed the title in 1983 with ictory oer Warwick & Worcester and, like their semi-final opponents, lost out to Cheshire in Potteries & District are using Birches Head Hotel (ST1 6ST) while South Yorkshire will use Meersbrook Park No 1 green (S8 9FP). SUNDAY 6 AUGUST 2017 SEMI-FINALS (2pm) North Midlands Shropshire Potteries & District South Yorkshire The eer-popular Supplementary County Championship will take place at Owley Wood Recreation Club (CW8 3LS), enue of the 2012 Senior Indiidual Merit. There will be a different name engraed on the trophy this year as the holders, Merseyside, finished bottom of their section so don t qualify and get the chance to defend their title. Yorkshire are the most recent winners of the competition entrants with back-to-back ictories in 2014 and But who wins is anybody s guess as some counties choose to select a strong squad for this eight-a-side eent while others choose to gie their fringe players a chance to play at a higher leel. Whateer squads are selected by counties, it is usually a great day and whoeer comes out on top will hae had to work hard for their ictory. SUNDAY 6 AUGUST 2017 SUPPLEMENTARY COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP (10am) Group 1 Yorkshire Derbyshire Cumbria North Lancs & Fylde Group 2 Greater Manchester Warwick & Worcester Lancashire Staffordshire 5 P a g e
2017 DRAKES PRIDE JUNIOR COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP The DRAKES PRIDE Junior County Championship has reached its semi-final stage with Yorkshire and Warwick & Worcester on course to meet in yet another county final. The two sides met in last year s final, the fifth time in the last ten seasons, with Yorkshire winning by 37 oerall. But first both sides must oercome Wales and Lancashire if they are to progress to the final stage. Yorkshire eased past Merseyside with an oerall 288 chalk ictory to top the three-team Section 1. They were neer challenged in the section matches with Cheshire losing by 236. Wales though should proide a stiff test for the champions, as despite losing a large number of players at the end of last season they still finished Section 2 undefeated. They saw off the challenge of South Yorkshire in the final match by 66 to book their place in the penultimate stage. Warwick & Worcester were as dominant as Yorkshire in their final section match, ending a miserable season for the Potteries & District youngsters in a 271-chalk rout. Lancashire juniors now hae the uneniable task of topping the fie-time winners in their semi-final. They came through the three-team Section 4 with a 100% record finishing with a comprehensie 91-chalk ictory oer North Lancs & Fylde in the winner-takes-all local derby as both sides started the day leel on points. SUNDAY 13 AUGUST 2017 SEMI-FINALS (2pm) Wales Yorkshire Lancashire Warwick & Worcester The Supplementary County Championship will take place at Pennfields BC, Wolerhampton (WV3 7LZ), enue of the 2007 Senior Merit. As in the senior eent, there will be a different name engraed on the trophy as the curse of the holders has struck again with Staffordshire, like Merseyside, finishing bottom of their section so don t qualify and get the chance to defend their title. With last season s runners-up, Wales, qualifying for the County Championship semi-finals, different counties will contest the final in As with the seniors, the competition is played on an eight-a-side basis with the two group winners qualifying for the final. SUNDAY 13 AUGUST 2017 SUPPLEMENTARY COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP (10am) Group 1 Merseyside South Yorkshire Shropshire Greater Manchester Group 2 Cheshire Derbyshire North Midlands North Lancs & Fylde 6 P a g e

BRITISH CROWN GREEN LADIES BOWLING ASSOCIATION The British Crown Green Ladies hae reached the semi-final stage of their County championship which are scheduled to take place on Sunday 20th August. Yorkshire, despite suffering a final-day defeat to Warwick & Worcester, won Section 1 by irtue of a better oerall aggregate. They were locked on four points with Warwick & Worcester and the holders, Shropshire. Shropshire finished with plus 67 after their 101- chalk ictory oer Mid Cheshire but Warwick & Worcester fell some 20-aggregate points short of Yorkshire s plus 133, een with their 33-chalk ictory oer the White Rose county. South Yorkshire emulated the performance of their male counterparts by claiming the Section 2 title with a 100% record. They finished with a comprehensie 94-chalk oerall ictory against Greater Manchester who led the table at the start of play. It was a similar scenario in Section 3 where the winners of the Burton & District North Midlands fixture would claim the title. Burton had by far the better oerall aggregate before play got underway but in the end, it counted for nothing as North Midlands scored the aluable two points in a 49-chalk ictory. In Section 4, North Derbyshire suffered a final day loss to Dudley & District, losing by 10 and giing their opponents their first points of the season. They then had to wait for the result of the North Warwickshire Staffordshire result to come through as North Warwickshire could oertake them to claim the top spot. North Warwickshire won by 51 but fell six agonising aggregate points short of a semi-final place. In the Presidents County Championship, North Shropshire claimed the inaugural title with a final day 12-chalk ictory oer Merseyside. Cheshire finished second in the table after their 43-chalk success oer South Staffordshire, who finished third. All four counties will be eleated into the main County Championship next year, being replaced by Mid Cheshire, Wales, the 2015 County Champions, Lancashire and Dudley & District. SUNDAY 20 AUGUST 2017 SEMI-FINALS (2pm) South Yorkshire Yorkshire North Derbyshire North Midlands SUNDAY 20 AUGUST 2017 SUPPLEMENTARY COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP (10am) Group 1 Warwick & Worcester North Lancs & Fylde Burton & District Staffordshire Group 2 Shropshire Greater Manchester Cumbria North Warwickshire 9 P a g e
MERRY CLAIMS VETS TITLE BCGBA Honorary Life Member, and former Chairman, Gerald Merry, mastered the green at Prees Cricket & Recreation Club in Shropshire, culminating in a final ictory oer Warwick & Worcester s, Ronald Regan, to claim the Jack & Jean Isherwood Veterans Championship title, once again kindly sponsored by GROCONTINENTAL. Merry, haing come through the Cheshire qualifiers, started his day with a comfortable opening win oer Roly Pratt (North Midlands) and then dispatched Derbyshire s Phil May Geoff Daies, of the home county, fared no better as he succumbed to a defeat but Merry was tested to the full in his semi-final against Potteries & District county bowler, Lee Dale. Here Merry won a titanic battle Regan meanwhile receied a bye in his first round game then had to work hard for his remaining three games on route to the final. He edged out Merseyside s Peter McGhee in the last sixteen, beat the only lady bowler in the competition, Janet Hargreaes (Potteries & District), in the quarters then just got the better of Barry Collinge from Greater Manchester, in the semis. Unusually, there were no preious winners in the 2017 line-up so a new name was guaranteed to be etched on the trophy. And that name was to be Gerald Merry who was always in control in the final though Regan did manage to get within two of his opponent at but was unable to sustain his momentum as Merry ran out a winner. KERRY IS THE NEW LADIES MERIT CHAMPION Kerry Brown came through a long day at Leyland Fox Lane Sports & Social Club, enue of the BCGBA World Club Championship, to be crowned the BCG Ladies Merit champion for The South Yorkshire lass defeated Burton & District s Sharon Tatem in the final. With sixty-four ladies competing, played oer two greens, Brown started with a success oer Jo Webster (Dudley & District) while on the other green Tatem beat Heidi Sutton (Lancashire) A change of green saw Brown oust Sue Worrall (Mid Cheshire) with Tatem getting out against Gemma Daies (Dudley & District). With both finalists back on the green of their first round games, Brown booked her place in the last eight with a defeat of the 2013 Merit winner, Helen Gilroy (Yorkshire). Tatem booked her quarter-final place with ictory of Lynsey Gorman (Merseyside), With the remaining games all being played on the same green Tatem was first to book her place in the last four with a resounding 21-3 triumph oer the 2005 winner, Maggie Barnes (North Midlands) while Brown was inoled in a close match with Burton & D istrict s Hannah McDonald, winning Two contrasting semi-finals followed. Brown blowing away Margaret Shaw (Greater Manchester), leaing her on 5 but Tatem was relieed to come out on top against Warwick & Worcester s, Shannon Kernick, eentually winning P a g e
BOWLSCOMPS ARTHUR LAND RANKING TABLE This time last year, Gary Ellis had opened up a commanding 60 point lead in the inaugural BOWLSCOMPS Arthur Land Ranking Table following his triple success in the Cleckheaton Classic, Hillcrest Classic and the Naigation & Railway Open. Now, twele months on, whilst Ellis still retains top spot he only has a slender 3 point lead oer second placed Callum Wraight. Wraight now has an excellent chance of taking pole position with Ellis not in the BCGBA Senior Indiidual Merit line-up. And, if Wraight is entered into the Fleetwood Festial, then he has a second opportunity to put more points between himself and Ellis as the Fleetwood final is the day before the BGBA Merit. As a recap, points are awarded for all of the qualifying competitions, and resere competitions, in this year s FRED.OLSEN CRUISE LINES Champion of Champions. Points are awarded to the last 16 players in any Open Competition with an entry in excess of 128.
