.Information for Pennant Players Bowls Vic approved clothing; foot and head wear must be worn for all matches. If you are unavailable for selection, please place your name on the unavailability list or notify the Match Committee as soon as possible At Home matches, Leaders are responsible for putting the mats and jacks away, at the conclusion of play. Seconds are responsible for handing the completed scorecards to the Side Manager. Players are encouraged to attend the Club every Saturday prior to Pennant matches. If you are going direct to an away match, you must place a disk over your name on the Selection Board prior to 12 Noon. In an emergency, please phone the Transport Manager. Inclement Weather Inclement Weather Refer to the Bowls Victoria Rules for Competition and Conditions of play in the Managers kit. Excessive Heat Play limited by excessive heat will be monitored through the nearest Melbourne Bureau of Meteorology weather station Ph for Melbourne home games this is station BOM Melbourne. Flag Duty The Manager of the last Side to finish playing on each green shall organise players to lower the flags at the completion of play on that green. 6
Team Managers At all home games: It is your responsibility to prepare Score Cards, and Pennant Result (yellow) Sheets. Ask the Senior Umpire to time the greens; and complete the relevant place on the Yellow Sheet. Have all match cards prepared in advance of matches. Draw for rinks by exchanging cards, shuffling and placing face downward on table with the opposing Manager doing likewise. Allot rinks to cards thus paired. Complete cards by entering the names of the opposing players, add rink numbers and distribute to the Skippers. All Pennant Games: See that names are correctly entered on the Pennant Result Slip. At the conclusion of Games: Collect cards from Seconds. Check to see that scores are correct. Check that both Seconds have signed the cards; that the scores are entered correctly, and the time the game finished is entered. Both managers are to sign the Pennant Slip. Show the pace of the green on the yellow sheet. Return cards to the office as soon as possible on match day. Home game results are to be advised by the senior manager present, to Bowls Vic Tel: by 6.00 p.m. Note: When the Bowls Vic Secretary receives the Pennant Yellow Sheet, the Pennant records are prepared and the positions of the Sides in Sections are determined. An error by the manager or scorers can affect the position of your Side on the ladder. When playing away, at the end of the game, phone the final score to the Club,
Notice Board The Notice Board is for your information. Please read it and support your Club by placing your name on lists for Tournaments, Social and other Club events. Markers All members of the Club have a duty to act as a Marker for Singles events held on our greens. Rule Books are available from the Secretary and clearly define the duties of Markers. It is recommended that all players study the Rules. Club Competitions Men's Singles Championship: 4 Bowls - 25 up, Final - 25 up Women's Singles Championship: 4 Bowls - 25 up, Final - 25 up Minor Singles Championship: 4 Bowls - 21 up, Final - 21 up President's Handicap Singles: 4 Bowls - 25 up, Final - 25 up Pairs Championship: Format to be decided Triples Championship: See what interest there is and make a decision at a later time The Match Committee will post full particulars of these events on the Notice Board. Please ensure the smooth and speedy progress of these events. 8
Conditions for entries to Club competitions Any Member who is a registered Pennant Player with another Club is not eligible to enter Club competitions. The Minor Championship is NOT open to: - (a) Previous winners of the event. (b) Players who have played four (4) or more games in the first or second side prior to and including the first Saturday in November in the current season. (c) Players who have not played at least four (4) or more Pennant games prior to and including the first Saturday in November of the current season, but whose entry is considered by the Match Committee to be inappropriate for this event. In any Club Competition players have equal responsibility to complete their games by the closing date for each round, as specified by the Match Committee. If any game has not been so completed, both players shall forfeit, unless the Match Committee determines otherwise. Club competitions have priority over all other games other than organised events, whenever greens are available. Competition games may be played at any time convenient to the players. However, players are requested to avoid playing games on a Thursday afternoon, if possible, so as to leave maximum facilities for Pennant practice. In accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, the Match Committee has absolute control over all Club competitions, and any decision it makes in these matters shall be final. 9
Selectors Role Our role is to represent you the members as best as we possibly can to select the most appropriate teams to represent Melbourne BC in each division. We have a duty of care that all members are selected equally and fairly to meet the club s goals and objectives. Where required we will engage the coaching committee to assist the members in their skills development. We will listen to the feedback and make the most appropriate decisions related to team selection. We are committed to fulfilling this responsibility but require your support of our decisions. Member Roles Support one another to achieve the club s objectives and goals. Strive to excel in the part you have been selected to play. Behave in a respectful and professional manner towards each other. Support the selectors decisions (this goes without saying). The selectors will do their best for the club. We know we can t please everyone but we will endeavour to do our best to accommodate all within the boundaries of the club s goals which is foremost on our agenda With the departure and acquisition of a number of players this season, opportunities are there for all members for different roles and responsibilities. Put in the effort and see what you can achieve for this great club 10
Positions / roles are up for grabs, so push yourselves and put pressure on the person in the position you want. In doing this it will only improve the standard of bowls at Melbourne and in turn we can be one of the greatest clubs around. Selection Criteria: Positions not guaranteed: There are no guaranteed positions for anyone in the club. We all have to earn our positions and fight to keep them. We expect that there will be pressure on all with members knocking on the door to take their spots. Minimal changes to sides The selectors will endeavour to make the least amount of changes as possible in order to keep the teams stable and balanced as possible. This doesn t mean that those spots are permanent/safe. A critical success factor of this is player availability for pennant. The more people unavailable the more difficult it is to achieve this objective Compatibility of rinks The selectors believe that this will be one of the critical success factors in achieving our goals for season 2016/2017. We will endeavour to achieve this in all sides. 11
Absenteeism throughout the season. In seasons gone by there has been a large number of players pulling out from week to week. If we are given sufficient notice of any planned absence we will endeavour to put the rink back together for continuity Common sense must prevail with family, work, illness vs. social reasons for being absent from bowls. Voting Voting is only one input into the selection process. It implies that the voting process will be fair, honest and appropriate to the conditions and grade you are playing in. Selection nights Match Committee meetings will be on Tuesday nights at 6pm this season. Communication We will phone the relevant parties that have been moved on the basis of poor performance. If there are moves in the same division we will endeavour to communicate these in advance but also may not. The key word is feedback (to exchange thoughts and ideas, not to dob on a team mate) Be constructive not destructive 12
Grievance Policy If you are not happy with things (the position you are in, someone you are playing with, anything), we request that you engage your skip in the first instance. If it can t be resolved there you both should seek assistance from the team captain or manager. If all those avenues have been exhausted and you still feel dissatisfied the team manager will arrange a hearing with all the selectors. We invite everyone to voice their opinions and or frustrations to the selectors in a constructive way. We also ask you to respect OUR time for practice, club matches etc. All meetings with the selectors will be on Tuesday nights ONLY by appointment and we will endeavour to assist you in resolving issues or disputes. Note: If we the selectors can ask one thing of all members that is support us in doing the job and we ll all celebrate a successful year at the end of the season. 13
