4 President s Report for Season 2004/2005 was another successful and enjoyable season for both our junior and senior sides. Our club was prominent in the introduction of the under 8 s competition and fielded seventeen junior teams (including 3 Under 8 teams) and five senior teams. From this number only 2 of our junior sides were crowned premiers. I had the pleasure to (sparingly) watch five of our junior and three of our senior sides battle out the semi-finals. Congratulations to our U13/1 MacGill and U14/1 Bevan sides for winning their respective premiership. Both of these teams showed amazing bowling and fielding skills in defending small totals to win their titles. The U13/1 MacGill side has now won their third successive premiership! Well done boys and coaching staff. Players were again prominent in the District Representative Teams with 28 junior players [26 boys and 2 girls (new girls competition for the district)] and 6 senior players. Our club was very fortunate to again have the services of Michael and Kerry Harriden to run our Have A Go Cricket program. This season we had 54 children register and we thank the Harridens for their efforts and the fun they bring to this program. The committee and myself cannot express enough thanks and gratitude to our Coaches and Managers for their efforts in teaching our young players the skills in cricket and more importantly the fundamental need for team work. I hope all the parents and players have appreciated and thanked you personally. Thanks again and well done. Sincere thanks to our committee for their on going efforts in making this Glenbrook-Blaxland an enjoyable club for players, parents and family. Special thanks to out going Club Secretary and Coach of many years Mr. Graeme Carrad. Graeme would have to be one of the most technical coaches I have come across in the district and I am sure his players have benefited under his guidance. Graeme has been a great Secretary for the club and he s wit and sense of humour will be sorely missed at the monthly meetings. Special thanks to Mr. Glenbrook-Blaxland, Warren Smith who makes everyone s job with the club so much easier and Mr. Greg Liggins who, as coaching coordinator gave up his time to attend training sessions and help out our coaches when they required assistance. Our social calendar this year consisted of two functions. Firstly our club get together Bush Dance which was a hoot. Adults and children alike danced the night away to the beats of local band Ragamuffin, who were outstanding. Secondly our fund raising Triva Night which exceeded all expectations. Thanks to all who attended and gave so generously making the night a great success. Thanks to the many people and again the committee for all their help in setting up both functions. You again have made these and other events, fun, enjoyable and successful. A big thanks to our sponsors that aid our club finically each season. Special thanks to Glenbrook Bowling Club and Allround Cricket. Enjoy your time off through the winter and the Club looks forward to doing all again next season. In closing this is my last season with the Wonderful Glenbrook-Blaxland Cricket Club from an administered role and I would like to thank all the people that I have work with over the past 10 years, including my wife Ann Maree, who also coached at the Club and has done so much work behind the scenes. I will miss the involvement with the children of this club and will always cherish the memories. I have learnt so much from the kids and parents, starting from being a spectator at my son s games to coaching and joining the committee, then becoming president. I think I am a better person for these experiences. Thank you Bob Coates - President Glenbrook-Blaxland Cricket Club Inc. 3 Annual Report

5 Treasurer s Report for A review of the Financial Statements (opposite) shows that our Income for has increased to $42,282 which is an increase of $3,161 over our Income of $39,121 for (adjusted to account for donation of printing services). The increase in Income came about mainly due to an increase of $2,000 taken during our Trivia Night and the $1,150 donation for Perpetual Trophies (for accounting purposes) which had not previously been counted as Club Assets. Junior Registration Fees were up by $2,285 due to an increase in team from 13 to 17 following the introduction of the Under 8 competition this year. Senior Registration Fees were down by $1,384 with a drop in the number of teams from seven to five. Also Have-A-Go Fees were down $1,155 due to a drop in numbers from 85 to 53 players. This increase and decrease virtually balanced each other as Registration Fees were not increased in We also received a contribution of $3,000 from Blaxland High School towards the construction of the Cricket Nets at Blaxland High School as a joint use facility with the Club. This paid for the laying of the astro turf, while the Club used the $3,300 grant from the Doug Walters Club (received in ) to prepare the site and pour the concrete for the wickets. Several days were set aside for working bees early in 2005 to erect the pipes and netting taken from the old Blaxland Oval nets, but we were rained out. More working bees has been set for June to finish the nets. The Financial Statement shows Expenditure for (47,544) was up on ($44,005 - adjusted for printing reports etc.) by $3,539. Junior Team Registration Fees and Team Insurance to Penrith Junior Cricket Association (PJCA) increased by $1,573 caused by the introduction of team registration fees with a consequent increase in cost to cover the losses made by PJCA over the last four years as they had not increased their registration fees. This was offset by a reduction of $1,125 in Senior Team Registration Fees to Nepean District Cricket Association and Have-A-Go Registration Fees to Cricket NSW due to a drop in team and player numbers. There was an increase of $2,800 in the purchase of cricket equipment, mainly for the Juniors with $1,500 of the equipment given as a donation. Most of this additional equipment has not been issued yet and is held as Assets at cost which will be available for issue when required in the future. While we purchased $5, 638 worth of cricket balls for , we had to use about $1,750 worth of balls that we had in stock from previous years. This meant that we actually used approximately $7,400 of cricket balls in and the actual cost of balls is likely to increase again in There have been decreases in the purchase of clothing and most other expenses but the Club expended $7,079 for the construction of the Cricket nets at Blaxland High School (but only $780 in Club money). While our club cash finances have been reduced to $508 at the end of from an effective $2,470 in , our Members Equity has increased from $17,113 to $18,089 which is a profit of $976 for the year. This reduction in cash came about because we did not increase our registration fees for and actually sold our clothing at a loss (player shirts $3 each, baggy caps at $12 each), while we gave baggy caps to both new Under 8 and Under 9 players in In , we will have to increase the Junior and Senior registration fees to cover the increase in PJCA rego fees, the cost of the increased use of cricket balls, as well as increase the purchase price of player shirts, baseball caps and baggy caps to cover their actual cost. Also baggy caps will only be given to new Under 8 players. This increase in Rego Fees and clothing sales in will ensure that the Club has more cash in the bank at the end of so it will be easier to start the season. As part of the club s cost reduction, the club will be increasing the use of to send out annual reports (staring with this report), registration letters and forms, Cricket Chronicle (started this season). Also, it is hoped that a clothing pool will be set up for from the existing donated clothing, with parents or players able to donate their old but useable player shirt (which is too small) to the clothing pool and pick up a larger sized player shirt from the clothing pool. The Club has been compiling all the statistics available from the last 25 years for Blaxland Cricket Club (Juniors and Seniors), Glenbrook Junior Cricket Club and Glenbrook Senior Cricket Club and will publish them shortly on a CD. This CD will be available for sale to interested members for a nominal fee sometime in September/October Warren Smith - Treasurer Glenbrook-Blaxland Cricket Club Inc. 4 Annual Report
