2 PRESIDENTS REPORT Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas. Come one and all to enjoy our last race of the year. Make time and stay for a drink and BBQ, with lollies and chips for the children. Annual Christmas Bowls Challenge was a sizzling afternoon of fun and socializing. A few new faces were great to see. Lots of coaching was on offer but little experience showing. Rising talent Daniel Stoneman and Peter Hodgson bowled over Brian Lawrence and I in the final to take home the Trophy. Daniel is keeping it in the family with his father handing over the trophy as last year s winner. Congratulations to all those that travelled to Canberra to compete, another wet weather day to keep competitors on their toes. I was very glad to hear of all the great results. Please be aware that we are experiencing some minor technical difficulties with the new timing system which the manufacturers are working on. We will continue to put the results up ASAP and would ask that any competitor or parent to contact us with missing times and or inappropriate DNF's. I ask everyone to keep an eye out for who finishes before and or after you, so that in the event of system errors we can adjust and correct. Have a very peaceful and safe holiday season, don t forget the Christmas BBQ race and for those unable to make it, see you all back next year with your New Year resolutions. 3 TRY A TRI DAY Date: 17 th February 2008 Where: Maitland Pool, Maitland Park. Start time: Ages: Primary school: 7-12 years. Race Distances: Race 1 100m swim, 2km ride, 500m run 8am until approximately 10am. Registration from 7.45am. Race 2 150m swim, 4 km ride, 1 km run Categories: BMX, Mountain bike, road bike and TEAMS. Prizes: Every child who is pre-registered online will receive a Participation Pack including: an MTC bag, swim cap, nutritional snacks and a lucky number. Shirts and hats will also be given away at the end as lucky number prizes. To Pre-register: Go to mtc.org.au and follow the links to Try a Tri rego form. Cost: TBA. Payable on the day. Includes pool entry, one day race licence with MTC. Pre-race online registrations will also receive the Participation Pack. Assistance: Help and assistance will be available for competitors where needed. Please ensure all bike gear is in good working order (eg. brakes, gears, pedals, etc). What to bring: Swim gear, bike, helmet, runners, a shirt to ride and run in, drinkbottle. Parents: All children must be supervised and a parent present to sign race day declaration. 5 2007/8 NSW Club Championships The TriNSW Club Champs continue in 2008 at One Mile Beach Port Stephens. The distance is 1000m swim, 30km cycle and an 8km run. This is the one race a year you race to gain points for your club. Maitland Tri Club has in previous years always ranked as one of the top country clubs. To remain at the top or even win the title we need as many members racing as possible. You must however be a full TA/TriNSW member to gain points for the club. Refer to this official TriNSW memo. After consultation with the affiliated clubs, the Board has resolved That one day licences be accepted at 2008 TriNSW Club Championships on 3rd May, however points will not count for that individual towards their Club. What this means is that Club Members who are not full TA/ TriNSW Members may compete, however it will be solely for fun because their points won t count towards the Club tally. This race has always a great atmosphere to it so we would still encourage all members to race if possible or just turn up to cheer all the competitors on and enjoy the presentation afterwards. 6 Hunter Academy of Sport Triathlon Talent Development Squad. Hunter Academy of Sport - Triathlon Development Program is seeking athletes who are turning 13 to 23 years in 2008 for its Triathlon program. We will be accepting Applications for our Squads throughout summer and will always be on the lookout for new scholarship holders during the season as talent pops up. 7 Handicap Race January s club race will be a handicap start race. The race will double as a handicap race and a normal club race. The handicap start will be based on previous finish times with competitors starting singularly or in small groups. The race will follow the normal course but competitors will be trying to chase down the competitors in front. First across the line on the day will win the handicap trophy. The results will also be calculated as normal to give age group places and points. New First Aid Kits We would like to thank Scott King, David Woodroof & Antony Cotic from Eraring Energy for organising the donation of two First Aid kits to the club. Eraring Energy is happy to support us in this endeavour because the company likes to focus on safety. During the club race the kits will be located at transition and with the marshal at the top of the hill.
