5 Destin History and Fishing Museum 2017 Annual Financial Report Summary: 2017 was the most successful in the Museum s history Net to Reserves was $13,451, or +$11,127 to Budget Revenue was $142,942, or $22,907 over Budget Record Museum attendance (12,140), Revenue +$4,801 to Budget; Donations to Museum very good at $8,532 (+$5,685); Corporate sponsorships on target at $15,000; Museum Memberships (Annual & Life) very good at $6,596 (+$3,331); TDC Project funding well-planned and accomplished at $27,732 Expenses were $129,123, or $11,865 above budget Building/Landscape Repairs & Upgrades were $21,605, or +$17,605 Work included new lighting, A/C work, water heater replacement, and some improvements qualified for TDC Grant funds. Museum supplies/misc. expenses & advertising were $13,515 (+$4,502) Advertising at $6,709 was high, but a valuable expenditure >> 2017 was a big financial success, especially considering the loss of the cancelled Seafood Festival revenue. Revenues were at an all-time high, and the record revenues were used effectively to make long-term improvements to the facility and offerings of the Museum.

7 2017 Accomplishments Rodeo Gallery Improvements include surround sound speakers, lighting upgrades with LED can & track lights. Rolling swing-frame exhibit to hold the Rodeo Poster Collection Rodeo Leaderboard replica complete with the past year s overall winners.

8 Kid s Fish School Exhibit including hands-on activities to measure, weight, compare and contrast replica fish models. Expanded data and created a new exhibit to house local Native American artifacts featuring local artist mural.

9 Developed and installed a commercial fishing exhibit to feature Destin s earliest commercial fishing industry and example of current commercial fishing with a video showing local commercial snapper fishing.

10 Relocated outrigger flag pole to Museum Heritage Park. Completely renovated the Flipper Wheelhouse exhibit. Installed a paver walkway featuring engraved pavers with the names of early seine boats and captains. Installed two historical data plaques about seine boat fishing and early fish camps.

11 Relocated and upgraded the Pioneers of Paradise exhibit featuring a swing-frame with data on early pioneer families. Relocated and upgraded the John Destin exhibit with monitor showing PowerPoint slideshow of his life and works of art. Digitized 115 vintage Victrola records incorporating into interactive equipment to access history of the piece, early Destin entertainment and the music.

12 Worked in partnership with Sea Grant Florida, UF/IFAS University of Florida, NOAA, Reef Ball Foundation and Okaloosa County to create an Artificial Reefs in Florida Waters exhibit with interactive ipad to access the Okaloosa County website on artificial reefs located in our Gulf of Mexico waters.

13 Acquired hardware, software, and archival supplies to digitalize and properly inventory and store artifacts. Increased promotional advertising through use of rack cards, Beach TV commercial for 5 months, coupon ad in Military Media GI SAVE, Live s A Beach summer issue and rack cards at the Airport.

14 2018 Plans Add additional fishing videos to the Rodeo Gallery Add Rodeo Weighmaster recorded stories thru QR Reader access to the Rodeo Gallery Create additional Children s hands-on exhibit Add historic data markers to the Museum Historic Park Complex on founding families Increase inventory of mounts of locally caught fish species Broaden advertising and promotion Increase programming Continue working on the digital artifact inventory system Create an interactive exhibit computer system which will access the chronological history. Build a new exhibit to feature early development and history of the tourism industry. Build a new backlit exhibit housing to hold the early church history and local church stained glass Continue upgrades to the lighting in the museum. Build a new outside photo op incorporating a fisherman s fighting chair. Remodel the Fish Wall exhibit to enhance the visibility of the fish mounts. Improve and expand our natural sciences exhibits working in partnership with the Choctawhatchee Basis Alliance and Henderson Beach State Park.
