Chapter money and member s efforts have been utilized by doing the following projects: Installed Know The Difference and Eurasian Milfoil signs at Vilas and Oneida County Lakes. Purchased and distributed 50,000 Know The Difference license holders. Members trained in boater safety offered classes throughout Vilas and Oneida Counties. Support Kids Fishing days with money and personnel. Donated to the Ben Bendricks Scholarship Fund. Purchased 10 handicap piers for various lakes. Assisted financially with improvements of boat landings throughout Vilas and Oneida Counties. Financial support to Three Lakes Fish & Wildlife Improvement Assoc. Financial support to Trophy Lake Research Project by the DNR Financial support for stocking bluegills in the Eagle River Chain. Donated half the cost of publishing Muskies, Inc. History Book. Stocking of over $50,000 worth of muskies in area lakes Contributed financially to new park and dock on Yellow birch Lake. Hosted state and international functions. Host of the Spring Classic Muskie Tournament on the Eagle River Chain and the Fall Classic Muskie Tournament in Three Lakes. Sponsor the $1,000 Headwaters Chapter of Muskies Inc. Memorial Scholarship at the Natural Resources School at UW Stevens Point, WI. The Headwaters Chapter has spent over $1 million in the last several years on the above projects!! The Headwaters Chapter was the recipient of the Wis. Thanks to our master of ceremonies Dan Pudlo for recommending Club 45. Their hospitality and meal was terrific. Unfortunately there were no fish registered. Our next outing will be Wednesday August 17 th at 12 Pines, hope to see you there. Please turn in your Alliance raffle ticket money and unused tickets SASP to Jim Chamberlin or Me. We can use extra tickets to sell at the Vilas County Fair August 11 th to 14 th. We re down to crunch time before our Canadian outing! If you have reserved a cabin at Redwing or are attending from another resort, please contact Glenn so we can plan our meals! Our Chapter LOTW Canada Outing 2016 Headwaters Chapter Annual Lake of the Woods Outing Place: Red Wing Lodge, Dates: September 3 rd to September 10 th 2016 Cost: $50.00 per night plus tax. Include Free: No launch fee No dock fee 1 bag of ice per day Assigned and designated dock slip. They will provide I meal at no charge *We have reached 20 attendees, so there will be a drawing for one of the attendees to receive this week free. Best odds for any drawing *They have donated 1 weeks lodging for a 2 bedroom cabin for 4 people, for our Banquet. (Can not be used for this week). We can use their grilling area and their lodge for our activities. All Cabins are air conditioned have WiFi and are only 66 feet from the water. For more information about this outing please contact: Glenn Matula grm5850@aol.com. Our Northern Waters Chapter Challunge with the Northwood s Chapter will be held on October 1st. This is a one day event. Get a partner and sign up. We want to make this an annual event. Get the Net!!!! Bill Jacobs
3 Minutes from August 3rd Directors Meeting 3 Motion to approve last month s minutes. Jim H. 2 nd by Carol H. Treasurers Report BMO Checking Account opening balance: $41, Income: $ Expenses: $1, Balance: $40, RVP Report. No report International. No report Alliance. No report. Membership. Jim C. informed us we have 341 active members and there were 12 drops who we have to reach out to. Fish Report. Dale updated us on fish registered to date. See newsletter for the full report. Newsletter. Dale says this is all set to go out. Waiting for the meeting minutes and Presidents message. Correspondence. Bill J received a letter from the Wisc Conservation Congress. It regards his issue of wanting the Muskie season in northern Wisconsin to coincide with southern Wisconsin. The Warm Water Committee is going to take that issue up this month and discuss it. Youth Program. Jim H. told us we are moving the program to Wednesday nights next year. Andy Hendrickson has agreed to help out Jim and Carol, and possibly take over the program in the near future. Also, Bill J and Bob J have kindly agreed to help with the program in Harvey S. is still with the program and doing a great job with our young people. We have had 145 participants so far this Summer. Andy and Summer H will be getting their DNR Certified Instructor Certifications which allows them to instruct in the Youth Program. Jim explained he is looking for additional instructors and he will provide you with all the information you need to become certified with the DNR. Please reach out to Jim if you are interested. jheffteamsuick@msn.com New Business. Kid s Guides Day is an annual event put on by the Eagle River Chamber and the Vilas County Guides Association. It was suggested that the Headwaters Chapter take this over from the Association, and work with the Chamber on next year s event. This change is OK with the Association and the Chamber. Proposed by Jim H. 2 nd by Andy H. It was approved unanimously. Dale Peterson suggested we get wooded name tags for the Directors. We can wear them at our events. He brought one to show us. They look pretty good so we will go ahead and get them. Docks and Landings. No report. Banquet. No report M.I. Magazine. Scott S. explained the deadline for our next chapter report is September 20 th for the next edition of the bi-monthly magazine. Outings. Fred B. discussed the Gil Hamm Tournament which takes place on Lake of the Woods 8/ Fred says our Chapter has three teams, but there are still some open spots. Please contact Fred if you are interested in going. guiding@haverodwilltravel.com Our Chapter Challenge takes place October 1 st. This is our friendly competition with the Northwoods Chapter. Teams are made up of six people, and you may fish anywhere you like. We will all meet at 12 Pines in Eagle River following the day of fishing. For more information, please contact Fred B see above. Glenn M. discussed our Canadian Fall Outing taking place on Lake of the Woods 9/3-10. We have about 20 people so far and there are still openings. If you are interested, please reach out to Glenn grm5850@aol.com Our next regular Chapter Outing is scheduled for August 17 th, which conveniently falls on a Wednesday. After a day of fishing we will all meet at 12 Pines in Eagle River. Old Business. Jim C. has people scheduled to work the County Fair selling raffle tickets to win the boat in the Alliance raffle. This is an excellent fund raiser for the Chapter. Joe K. gave us a report on our booth in the St. Germain Flea Market. We will be there again this Monday, the 8 th. If you can donate something for us to sell at the Flea Market, it would really help the Chapter. I need photos in order to win Big Fish and Lunker of the Month awards by the end of Jan Newsletter submissions: I need photos, articles, and write ups to put in the newsletter. I do NOT take articles out of the local newspapers about our members if they win something and put them in the newsletters. You can send me stuff out of the newspapers and I will scan them and then put them in the newsletter. If you send me something, it may not be in the next newsletter as upcoming events may take precedence. Last Call for Gil Hamm Outing on LOTW The Gil Hamm outing is at the Red Wing Lodge on Lake of the Woods from Aug Please contact Fred Brogle if you want to fish this outing, or cell or guiding@haverodwilltravel.com. Fred has room for more fishermen. Think there are about 11 signed up so far. Club outing at Red Wing Lodge on Lake of the Woods Sept. 3rd-10th CLUB TRIP OPENINGS. All club members or guests, we have openings and can accommodate individuals or groups of 2 or 4.You can contact Glenn Matula at grm5850@aol.com as soon as possible for additional info. Cabin Assignments: At check in club members have been assigned cabins based on the size of your group. Towels are included, they are changed on Wednesday, or you can bring your own. $50/night per person based on 4 in a 2 bedroom and 8 in the large unit. Activities: The majority of club members will be arriving on Saturday Sept. 3rd. On Sunday Sept. 4th, owners Mike and Ann will provide a luncheon at 3 pm as a meet & greet, all club members should attend. On Wed. Sept. 7th, we will have our club steak fry. Grills & canopy will be provided. Every member is responsible for their food, utensils, etc. This is a great way to exchange stories. On Friday Sept. 9th, we will have our wrap up meeting, raffle, and awards at 1:00 pm. Our club will provide a meal and final results. As a package and included is: No launch fee, no dock fee, free ice each day (1 bag per boat), assigned & designated dock slips. Red Wing will provide one meal free of charge. If we have 20 people signed up he will have a drawing and 1 guest will get a full refund. The meeting room usually closed around 9 pm. We will have a ledger board with fish listed each day. They must be listed the day caught for award tickets. Gas cans can be brought, they must be left at the trailers. All funds are in US dollars, plus tax. Fishing licenses and your fishing outdoor card can be purchased ahead of time on line at or at Red Wing Lodge. 5 NorthWaters Chapter challunge!! 2016 WISCONSIN NORTHWATERS CHAPTER CHALLUNGE 5 When: Oct. 1 st, 2016 Where: Fish any lakes you want Time: 7 am 5 pm Entry Fee: NONE, FREE Fishing open to: Members of Headwaters or Northwoods Chapters ONLY Teams: One team consists of 3 boats with 2 fishermen or 2 boats with 3 fishermen each, may be less, but not more Fish verification: Honor system, Photos would be nice but not necessary. Live bait is allowed Trolling is allowed. Registration slips: Must be turned in to Fred Brogle before 6 pm, available at the awards after fishing. Winner: Same point system as Monday Night Musky League. 8 pts. for a Musky 30 or over and 1 pt. for each 1/2 over 30. Team with the most points wins, that is the total of all 3 boats. Winning chapter get the beautiful pink fish trophy. Fish raffle: For every musky you catch 30 or over, your name goes in the hat for the fish raffle drawing, 3 prizes. Raffle: Separate raffle for Musky stuff, number of items depends on how many fishermen we have. Next year s host chapter: The host chapter will switch between chapters each year. Northwoods Chapter hosts it in 2017, odd number years.
