His record of fifty years as a steward in old Pleasant Grove church and his long service as superintendent of its Sunday school were referred to by hundreds of people. Many old men and women, who had known him intimately all their lives, stated that he was never known to make an unkind remark about any person but supon the other hand, he always greeted everyone, old and young with words of encouragement and appreciation. Had he lived until December, he would have been 84 years old, but until his death his mind and memory were perfectly clear and unimpaired and every Sunday saw him active in Sunday school and church. Henry Osborne Eulogy: Mrs. Muriel Osborne, her three daughters, 4 granddaughters, Ryan and I would like to thank each and every one of you for coming today. We understand some people could not attend and some people have not heard of Henry's Departure. Hentry Humphries Osborne was the youngest of 6 children. He was born on January 17, 1924, in Ladonia, Texas, to a Texas farming family. His father was Alonzo Osborne and his mother was La Verna Zelma Boyd. He was a Christian raised by a Christian family. How appropriate it is for us to be in this Church today. He was the treasurer of the First United Methodist Church of Rockwall for a few years and worked and encouraged the building of the Church that we presently occupy. One way he helped raise money was by selling cantaloupes out of the back of his truck. His vision and hard work, like so many other Church members, made this beautiful church a reality. He graduated from Ladonia High School and joined the Navy on May 8, 1942, as a Seaman Second Class. While in the Navy he attended Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia. He knew the value of a good education and encouraged each and every one of his children to go to school and graduate. He sacrifieced and made every opportunity available to his children so they could have an education. On October 31, 1947, he was 23 when he married his young bride, Muriel Ogden, a registered nurse from Corpus Christi, Texas. Last year they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Every young man dreams of sailing the seas, or conquering the skies. Henry accomplished both dreams when he became a Naval aviator. Henry Obsorne joined the Navy at the early age of 18. He went to flight school and became a Naval Aviator and served tours of duty at sea. In 1963 he became a Captain and later, in 1970, he became Commanding Officer at the New Orleans, LA, 8th Naval District Support Activity. He saw combat in the Pacific during World War II and in Korea. He recived the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal (12), Joint Service Commendation, the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation and the Navy Unit Commendation. He retired from the Navy on June 30, You can go across this great land far and near, but you can't find a man who loved his God, family and country like Henry Osborne. His veins were filled with red, white and blue. AND GOD SAID He was very close to his brothers and sister, aunts and uncles. He practiced and preached family values. He traveled the world over, but it was the City of Rockwall, Texas, where he chose to retire. Not surprisingly only 60 miles from Ladonia, Texas, and his roots. In Rockwall he and Muriel built their dream home on Lake Ray Hubbard. His life was like the American Dream. He came from a poor family, he survived the depression, he survived 15

16 and fought in World War II, he survived and fought in the Korean War, he survived over 2 years as Korean Prisoner of War, and still provided for his family. In the last 2 years he was sick, in and out the hospital, many times. The last month of his life he suffered, but he never gave up. Henry died October 1, 1998, at 1:30 p.m. He touched the lives of many people.
