THE RAGING BULL Season 2013 Volume 16 Eagles Fly over Bulls For some Karingal teams, it will be hard to grab hold of a birth in September action with none of the teams claiming points at Regents Park on Saturday. With a day that had so much promise for Bulls with the reserves looking to put ladder pressure on Pines while the seniors had the chance to assert themselves in the top 5. The netball girls did not hold sway at Sturdee Street with all teams being comprehensively beaten. It will be a big weekend at the Bullpit against Mornington this Saturday. Our Young Centurion Not only is this weekend s game against Mornington a big game, but it also a big game for one of our youngest Senior players in Cal Dixon as he will play his 100 th Senior game at Karingal. Cal has had a dominating Season 2013 so far, been instrumental in our Bulls midfield and running forward and leading by example. He was one of three Bulls who represented the Peninsula Football & Netball League in their victory over Ovens & Murray Football League in the VCFL Country Championships. Congratulations Cal Dixon on 100 games.
A huge weekend at the Bullpit on Saturday as the Bulls host Mornington. Last time around the Bulls had the better of the Bulldogs claiming 4 out of 6 wins. The seniors were tested by prevailed while some desperate defence gave the reserves their 3 rd consecutive victory. The Under 18s came hard but went down by 5 goals. The girls in A grade worked hard and came away with a very good victory by 14 goals. B grade were at the stage where they we coming into some form and gelling together as a team while the C grade had continued on their merry way. So this weekend will be a great test for all Bulls teams as the season winds down. In 2013 We are smart phone compatible so you can get all your Bulls News anywhere, anytime...know someone who follows the Bulls but doesn t get The Raging Bull? 4 The Week in Review Round 15 vs Edithvale-Aspendale Weather was better than last week. The Bulls travelled up the highway to Regents Park to take on Edithvale-Aspendale. However, things didn t go all to plan for the footballers, none of the teams being able to come away with points. The under 18 s showed that they can play some really competitive footy and the game was a really tight tussle with them leading for a good portion of the game but however could not finish the game in front. The reserves kicked the first 4 goals but were all at sea against an Edi-Asp team who were really on their game. The seniors had a really tough game, the game was physical and extremely intense, but after Half Time, Edi ran over the top and came away with the 3 rd win of the day. For the reserves and the seniors. September action is not beyond them and can push with the seniors in a position to get a double chance while the reserves have to keep winning and rely on results to go their way. Not only did the football players have a tough day at the office but the netball girls also had a tough day down at Sturdee Street. All sides were comprehensively beaten by team they describe as the Premiership favourites. However, these girls are very resilient and will no doubt bounce back against Mornington on Saturday to get themselves up and running to finish off Season 2013 strongly.
Football Report Season 2013 Senior Coach Report Brendan Dunne We went to Edi this week and we were keen to get a win over a side that beat us in the first half of the year as we have not achieved that yet. The first half was like a finals game high pressure, physical and fast. We went in at half time 2 goals up and all was looking good. Unfortunately that s where the positives ended. Edi ran over us in the second half and showed that their hunger for the contest and the win was far greater than ours. The second half was not one to remember and now it puts us in a position that to finish top 3 we must win all three games coming home. There were a couple of players that were good for us on the weekend, I thought that LVR and Grant were solid for us all day and were leaders on the field and tried to show us the way, and Cocky Hay was a clear best player for us marking everything that came inside the forward 50 and kicked yet another bag of goals. From now on WE MUST WIN, winning form is a good form and a top 3 double chance would put us in a good position. Cheers Dunney
Reserves Coach Report Pete Jordan At least the weather was better than last weeks. This week we headed down to Edi-Asp to take on the Eagles full of confidence after coming off our first win in 6 weeks against Chelsea. The boys were ready from the start because they knew what was on the line if we came away with the points. Again I drummed into them that it was important to kick the first few goals and put some real pressure on Edi-Asp and that we did. However, for some reason we seemed to drop off after kicking the first 4 goals of the game and Edi-Asp kicked the next 12 of the game. The momentum completely turned in their favour and we were on the back foot. We weren t completely out of it at half time but had to have a top third quarter. I told the boys it was up to them whether they wanted to keep their season alive, whether they want to take it to the next level. We came out in the third quarter and we started to get some momentum our way but we couldn t put that momentum on to the scoreboard and that s what killed us. We started to get some run. It was only in the last quarter when the game was out of reach that we could actually start putting some goals on the board. At least it was good to say that we won the last quarter. Some of our regular runners were just not up to the task and I think we missed that lack of run through the midfield throughout the game because that is one of our strengths is that we have boys that can run and run all day long like Gonz, Smitty and Hicksy but it was the team s effort that let us down. With this loss it makes it very hard to push for that finals spot but as they say Nothing is Impossible, but it is very hard to rely on another team to drop off. Hopefully, we can finish off the season very very strong and whatever happens, happens. Best Players: Paulie, Gonz, Benny Duff.

Racism, It Stops with Me! Everyone would remember the incident between Adam Goodes and the 13 year old Collingwood supporter at the beginning of the AFL Indigenous Round. Furthermore, would remember the comments made by Collingwood President Eddie McGuire only just two weeks ago. Racism, has not just been involved in Australian Rules football, but in sports across the world. Especially in sports where international players are a part of clubs. The Karingal Football & Netball Club takes a zero tolerance towards racially abusing or vilifying of a player, official or supporter based on gender, race or religion. Without these three components of a club and league, there would be no football to watch and there would be no talent from local level. Football is about having fun and enjoying getting together on a Saturday and playing with your mates, against your mates and meet new mates along the way regardless of who they are or what they believe in. So whether you are Indigenous, a person from another culture or religion or you are just a regular Australian. No-one should EVER be subject to racial abuse in Australian football and this needs to be stamped out of our game!

CLUB 44 - Honouring Justin Groves Club 44 was struck in honor of the memory of Justin Groves, a player who tragically passed away in his twenties. Justin was a passionate Karingal person who wore his heart on his sleeve and it is hoped that members of Club 44 share the passion and desire for success that Justin possessed not only for Karingal but in life. The Groves family has had an association with Karingal for over 30 years and those who have witnessed Justin s father and brother David and Paul supporting the club will understand how much victory would have meant to Justin. The number 44 is symbolic because this is the number Justin wore in all of his games for Karingal. Club 44 retains an element of exclusivity because of its limited with the Club 44 insignia printed on them. In 2004 the Groves family struck an annual award to be given at each Presentation Night. The Club 44 award is given to the player exhibiting the qualities that Justin displayed throughout his career. Courage to perform under adversity, Determination to succeed against stronger opposition and Tenacity to persist until the result is achieved. In addition to a trophy the winner can elect to wear jumper number 44 in the following season, his family feels truly touched by the warmth with which this club has been accepted. Even with Justin s passing he continues to have an emotional and tangible influence on the success of the Karingal Football Club CLUB 44 Winners: 2004 Ben Gothard 2005 David Measham 2006 Matt Jakobi 2007 Justin Peckett 2008 Steve Charalambous 2009 Robbie Clements 2010 Justin Farrelly 2011 Bevan Malloy 2012 Troy Hoad 2013 Package: $250 Paid by Round 1 (Club 44 Day), otherwise $275 Club Membership Entry to All Home Games Insider Regular updates straight from the coach. 4 Guest passes To allow people entry to game & half time as required C44 Corporate Hat Supplied by Blue Gum Clothing $80 Voucher To be used for drinks, merchandise or Pre Season Lunch / Seafood Lunch Tickets 1/2 Time Functions In Rooms for Showtime Attractions Park Club 44 Day Beer, Wine & Soft Drink Round 2 April 13th V Langwarrin 12 pm Onwards.
Netball Report Robyn Burke As the 2013 season wraps up, the Bullettes travelled to Sturdee Street to take on the premiership favourites in all three grades Edi-Asp. Unfortunately they were to strong and came away with the wins. To the credit of each of our teams, the girls never gave up, supported each other and played some great netball. Best on in C grade was Alyce Gray. In B grade we are hoping a speedy recovery for Karen! A grade saw our permanent fill in Petrina Blacky Blackmore play a sterling game! Next week we re looking forward to a home game against Mornington at the Bullpit! Some of the girls will be attending the Seafood Luncheon. Upcoming ladies day is sure to be a success. See Anna, Jaime, Emma or Emily for details/tickets. Go Bullettes!
