1 Joondalup City Football Club Inc. Newsletter News from our technical team End of Season Edition September 2016 Club President s Foreword Peter Dearlove It is our 20th Season as a club, before we were Joondalup City, we were Heathridge FC. Our 20 year status was recognised by the City of Joondalup & his worship the Mayor Troy Pickard on August 18th. The ongoing sponsorship by BankWest was welcome support and there was also sponsorship from Air Conditioning Headquarters and Raymond May, we truly thank our sponsors for the fantastic support they provide. Pictured: Paul Turvill, Fred Whalley & Scot Andersen JCFC s entry into the Junior NPL Without stating too highly the dedication of the committee and associated supporters across all areas - this has made the first season of our strategic development program a massive success. We can only see so many more benefits across the club as the program gathers momentum where our members will benefit tremendously by improving individual skills and enjoy playing the world s greatest game. Article by: Paul Turvill, Technical Director introduction was needed to accommodate our NPL teams. The Technical Team went about the With the commitment made, the JCFC committee squad preparation, fast tracking familiarisation went about to lay the foundations for a strategic of the NPL Development playing criteria to our development program to be delivered for the coaches & playing groups ALL within a three-week beginning of the 2016 season. period before our first NPL games! We applied for Junior NPL status & initially were declined, however in February we were offered & accepted to join the NPL. There were challenges as we had trialled for A teams not NPL, so I must take this opportunity to thank the players & coaches that have stuck at it all season through challenging times - you have gained significant praise behind the scenes for your spirit in persevering where others may have given up, well done. This season we introduced our Technical Team read more about them in the main article. At the State League level, we have seen players coming through our junior teams, into our U18s and Men s 1st and reserve teams. It s great to see the pathway that we worked hard for, delivering results. Our women s team has blossomed under the guidance of our Vice President Julian Barley, we hope to have more news on the women s team for next season, in the near future. The introduction of a Development Team including a Technical Director, Director of Coaching & Development Officers went about the induction & presentations of Football Development, Club, Coaching & Playing Philosophies. However, following the unexpected but positive announcement that JCFC had been granted NPL Junior Status, a review of our initial development NPL criteria focuses on developing the individual player within a system style of football which will allow the player to become competitive, always allowing development over the score line. cont d... The Juniors and small sided teams; Its fantastic to see so many youngsters playing & training, this year 480 junior players got out of the house and onto the field. Well done parents & family members for being taxi drivers & cheer squads on Sunday mornings. Thank you for being part of our community & most of all keeping the kids active. 1
2 cont d from page 1... Initially the Unknown factor incurred a side of caution from many, however as the weeks went by it was pleasing to gain feedback from other clubs who are some 3 years down this track, commending the style of our play and the compliance we have attained in line with the set criteria s of the NPL status. The ongoing strength of our NPL status remains firmly in the correct development of our Junior members in our U6- U11 age groups where our new Development Officers have been present at training & game venues and have been monitoring the progress of these age groups in line with the development & training criteria s set for; The Development Phase 6 s 9 s The Skill Acquisition Phase 10 s 13 s The Game Training Phase 14 s 18 s We saw the introduction of a number of coach s clinics, supporting and mentoring our coaches in aspects of why we need to do warm up our playing groups, and the importance of the small sided game during development. The introduction of a weekly online session plan suitable for the different age groups has been received very well and we see this as a great benefit for our coaches encouraging, in due course, better organised training sessions and stimulation for our players, while managing their individual development. We also introduced our GK program which has been very well supported by a number of young players looking to progress their playing time between the sticks There are still a number of initiatives in the pipeline including an end of season round robin game day for our 10 s & 11 s, skill acquisition and GK development programs during the summer. 3 Photo courtesy of Michael Eyre Photography Our future is bright Article by: Marco Schisano, State First Team Coach It is my second year at Joondalup City Football Club and I have witnessed the improvement of our younger players which makes me very optimistic about the future of our club. After coaching the State Reserves team last year, I had the belief that the players making the transition from under 18s football to mens football would benefit from the experience and help them improve their game in order to become valuable players for the future of the club. When I accepted the role of coaching the State First team at the start of this season, my main goal was to achieve promotion to the Division 1. Another focus was to see the continued improvement of the many talented youngsters and how they would progress into senior football. I have been delighted with the performance of these young men. They have been an integral part of our success this year and have brought renewed enthusiasm to the senior group of players. Watching hundreds of juniors running around on a Sunday wearing our colours is great to watch and a reminder of what we can achieve in the future... Congratulations must be passed on to the Junior coaches that have influenced the development of these players into future stars of our club. A successful club must have the ability to promote their juniors to their senior teams and I believe we are well on our way to providing these opportunities to our players. We have had a successful season so far in all three state senior competitions and I would like to thank all the coaches, players and volunteers who have made this possible. Finally, I wish everyone a great summer and all the best for season Watching the hundreds of juniors running around on a Sunday morning wearing our colours is great and a reminder of what we can achieve in the future. 4 Recently, some of our players where chosen to play for their school teams in lightening carnivals held locally against other schools. Mindarie Primary School and Connolly Primary School managed to get through to the final rounds of the State Glory Cup. Finally, Joondalup City is proud of our MiniRoos who have been selected by Ocean Reef High School to attend their elite soccer program in 2017: to name a few Russel Mason, Jayden Mills, Lewis Mills, Nathan Milham and James Spradbery. U10 s & U11 s MiniRoos Update The season has been a mixed bag of wins and losses for every team, but the kids have continued to have a fun, week in and week out. We are proud of each and every one of them. The season has been a mix bag of wins and losses for every team, but the kids have continued to have fun week in and week out. We are proud of each and every one of them! We thank the parents, carers, coaches, managers and the committee for another great season. Some of our lucky mums even celebrated Mothers day on the sidelines! Can t wait to see you all back again for the 2017 season! Article by Caran Danskin - U10 s/u11 s Coordinator. In September 2015 and in 2016 we were invited to participate in the march past at the Socceroos game held in Perth. This was a great honour for the kids as they walked past their international heroes! They also had photo opportunities with Perth Glory 1st team players and George the Glory mascot. In March 2016, the MiniRoos provided mascots and ball boys / girls for the Joondalup City state teams playing cup games with Perth Glory reserves and U18 s, despite the losses the kids had a great time and enjoyed the experience. MiniRoos Fun Day! Article by Leeanne James - U6 s - U9 S MiniRoos Coordinator Players from the 8 s to 11 s were invited to come to the club on one of the weeks where we had a bye to play some matches just for fun. The weather wasn t the kindest with some showers and clouds around but we were very pleased that so many families turned up and kids not only played their own match with their team, but were eager to play more games to help out other teams too. We even had some of our current U6/7 who came to watch, but put on a shirt and get involved to help out. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day and we are looking forward to more of these Fun Days next season, perhaps adding a sausage sizzle too. It was a great opportunity to get our players to meet kids from other teams and let them have some fun together - we all cheered for Joondalup City! 4
5 Women s/girls Football Article by Julian Barley - Development Officer Our Metro Div 2 team provided a solid performance which resulted in a 7-1 win against Denmark SC in the Metro League Semi Final on Sunday 21st August. It was great to see so many people down supporting the girls, approx 300 cheering them on. They move onward to the Final which will be held at Grindleford Reserve, Balcatta at 12.45pm on the 4th September. They sit at the top of their league with 2 games in hand. This season also saw the addition of our 2nd women s team who joined the Metro Div 4 league. A lot of new senior women s players were attracted to the club in 2016 giving us depth of squad numbers and the ability to cater for all levels. A successful girls 2016 have seen our U13s girls winning their league and the U14s currently sitting 2nd on the ladder. The U14s have made the cup final which will be held at Grindleford Reserve, Balcatta at 11.50am on the 4th September. Hopefully see you down there cheering on the girls? Both teams will of course compete in the top 4s promises to be a great year for the female players at the club as we have plans to be moving forward with our girls and women s program.
