1 Issue 8 Apr 25, 2012 Windy Sardis $100K, really? Sardis Winners Sardis proved to be a tough challenge on T-Day, didn t it? No one said this tournament fishing is always easy. Nonetheless, overall, we had big fun on a big, big lake. We kept hearing how great the fishing had been the days and weeks before the week of our April 14th tournament, but, brother, Sardis just about got the better of us on T-Day. Like always, some team will figure it out and find a way to win, and this time it was Jared Gray fishing with guest, Josh Byford. I heard that they long-lined all day in the wind. That requires tough equipment, great batteries and tough fishermen. Winning their first MCC tournament ever, Jared Gray & Josh Byford, Calhoun City, showed the rest of us that good stringers can be caught on a windy day. Great job, men, y all dun real good. Way to hang tough! Somebody s gonna have to teach Tommy and me how to do that long-lining. Congrats, Jared & Josh. We re very glad to see some relatively new members compete on such a high level. I think this is your second season to fish with us. Hey, I can testify, some of us have been competing for decades without having ever won an event. I m proud of you and proud for you. Keep up the great effort, and win that $100,000 at Enid. It s right in your backyard. All you have to do is long-line that giant up from the depths of the lake where the current world record came from 1957, weighed 5 pounds 3 ounces caught by Fred Bright. Looking forward to it, gang. PJ As Good As It Gets!!!..Thank you Lois & Les Smith for the great BBQ Friday nite at Sardis!! You and your cooking and serving crews were way too good to this bunch. We really enjoyed it, and all who attended said so. Can you believe it we only have two regular tournaments to go!! Geez, time flies when you re having fun. My job here is to help get all our teams ready to compete in the Post-Season and to promote the our first-ever $100,000 tournament. On page 7 of this issue you ll see where 22 teams are already qualified points wise to compete in the Post-Season. Those teams scores are tinted light gray. You ll recall that to be qualified for the Post-Season you must enter 6 tournaments and have a total of 80 points or more and buy one Splash for Cash raffle book per adult fisherman. You get 10 points for entering each tournament. We have several bubble teams who I know will qualify, and we have a few teams who can qualify by back paying a tournament or two and fishing the last two tournaments of the year. I project we will have 40 or so teams participate in the 2012 Post Season Payout Package and Magnolia State Championship. That s a really good number for us, MCCers. Way to go that means we ve had a really good year with really good participation. As President of this fine organization, that makes my chest swell just a little bit more. Good Job, folks. My second job here is to promote the May 5th $100,000 Enid Tournament. That s right $100,000 plus the normal Top 15 places are at stake in this first-time-ever WORLD S LARGEST CRAPPIE OPEN TOURNA- MENT hosted by the Water Valley Main Street Association. This is a open event, so I expect to have some fishermen enter who are potential MCC members. We want to do a good job of welcoming our guests and inviting them to join our club. The $100,000 Top Prize guarantee is sponsored by our good friends and sponsors Bandit Lures and B n M Poles plus Doc s Table Restaurant in Water Valley. I think almost everyone now understands that we ve bought the same kind of Odds On insurance that is often used for golf, bowling, and other sporting events to cover our $100,000 Top Prize. Nothing tricky here, friends. Plain facts are that if you catch the next World Record Crappie in the tournament, pass the polygraph, and have the fish certified by the International Game Fish Assoc as a World Record, you ve just won $100,000 + Big Fish money for the day + Big Mama money for the year (if you re a Post-Season qualifier). This is a big deal for MCC. It s as good as it gets. Come join us. I d love to see each and every one of you at this first-ever-in-the-entirecountry-$100,000 event. I m sure we ll have a blast!!! PJ
2 Page Issue 8 Apr 25, 2012 First Time for Every Thing It s getting harder and harder to predict the winning team on T-Day. Any team on any day with this MCC group is capable of winning any tournament!! And this time at Sardis it was Jared Gray fish ing with guest Josh Byford!! Congratulations guys on your First MCC win with pounds of Sardis slabs on a tough day!! And they also had the 2 nd big fish weighing 2.35lbs. Patrick Stone and Anthony Reasons did a great job also with a close second weighing in 12.54lbs. While we re speaking of first-time events: It wasn t the first time we ve had a fantastic get together at Les Smith s place!! Thank you Les and your crew for having plenty of good food and great accommodations!! The only belly aching I heard was from people who ate too much including myself!! Thanks again Les we really enjoyed it!! Our next first time event is the Enid Lake Open Tournament with a $100,000 top prize!! That s right $100,000!! No membership dues are required just the $90.00 entry fee per boat. Were looking for a great turnout and would luv to see some lucky team walk away with $100,000. Thanks to Paul Johnson and The World s Largest Crappie Festival in Water Valley for making this event possible. Heads up we re doing it a little different at Enid. Write this down, bring this with you or just ask Terry. 3 Page Issue 8 Apr 25, 2012 May 5th Enid How do you plan to spend that $100K if you win it at Enid? Although this is not a picture of Shelton and David from our last Enid tournament (I couldn t find the right one), these two veteran pros plan on winning all they can on May 5th. And, as proven by being the team on our current roster to have scored the highest in our last Enid event, 2nd back in 2010, you can bet my money is on them going into the first-ever $100,000 tourney. Think about that, folks, little ole MCC is the first-ever crappie tournament organization to offer $100,000 as the Top Prize!! Where you gonna be May 5th? 6 Magnolia Crappie Club Regular Tournament Rules Season Annual membership dues are $50 per person, and are due on August 1. Children under age of 16 are exempt from this fee. Registration times will be announced, and registration will be held on the morning of each regular tournament. The Tournament Entry Fee is $90 per boat for each regular tournament held. New rule Teams may pay entry fees for the entire season at the beginning of the season and will be considered automatically registered at each tournament. There is no need for these pre-paid teams to come to registration. Fishing start times will be announced for each tournament, and all tournament fishing times end at 2:00 PM. You must be in the weigh-in line by 3:00 PM. Teams may be on their first fishing spot early, but they may not drop hooks into the water until the Official Announced Start Time. Tournament Entries may fish with up to six poles per boat with no more than 2 hook sets per pole unless local lake rules lower the number of poles allowed. New rule Teams are allowed to bring a 3rd fisherman provided that 3rd person is under the age of 16. No more than three people are allowed in tournament boats at any point during the tournament hours except for emergencies, assistance with boat troubles, or assignment of a tournament observer. Cell phones, radios and any other form of electronic communication may not be used to get fishing information. Electronic communication is allowed in the case of boat trouble, emergencies or personal, non-fishing related phone calls. Guest Rule. Teams may invite guests to fish in our regular tournaments. The three person per boat limit applies. At least one of the fishing partners must be a member of MCC. Annual membership dues will be waived for a guests first tournament. Should guests wish to come back and fish in later tournaments the annual membership dues of $50 will be assessed and guests will then become a member of MCC. There is no limit to the number of guests a team can use during the regular season. No guest may fish the State Championship event unless special exemption is granted by the MCC Board. Teams must declare who the regular partners are before the end of the regular tournament season. Weigh-in Rules. Weigh-ins will begin at 3:00 PM. At least one team member must be in the immediate weigh-in area with no more than 7 crappie caught by the tournament team on tournament day in a bucket before 3:00 PM. Teams that have not turned in weigh-in tickets before 3:00 PM will be declared late and receive 10 points only for entering. Fish judged by the Tournament Director to be under 10 inches (12 inches on some COE Lakes) will be thrown out and may not be replaced by another fish. Fish must be kept as healthy as possible. There is no penalty for dead fish, but any fish that is questionable can be taken out by the Tournament Director or Weigh-master. In the event they can not agree, the President will break the tie. The remaining fish will be weighed. Presenting more than 7 crappie to the weigh-in crew will cause the team to be weighed last. Teams should have no form of ice in the container when the container is handed to the weigh-in crew. If ice is present when presented to the weigh-in crew, that team will be weighed last after they have removed all forms of ice from the container. Fish will be weighed only one time. Disqualified teams will receive 10 points for entering. Teams may weigh as many Big Fish as they like. Payouts will be based on the club's Regular Tournament Payout Schedule. Overall Points Rules. Overall points will be kept for the year, and the Top Ten teams will be recognized at the Awards Banquet. Teams will receive 10 points for each regular tournament entered. Fish will be weighed to the nearest 1/100 th of a pound, and points will be assigned to the team's points total at the rate of one point per pound. Big Fish Rules. Every boat is entered in the big fish pot upon registration. This is not optional and is part ($10 per team) of the entry fee. Two Big Fish prizes will be made at each regular tournament. 1 st place is 60%, 2 nd place is 40% of the day's Big Fish Pot. One team may win both Big Fish prizes. Post-Season Payout Rules. To qualify for the Post-Season Activities and Payouts, teams must enter or back-pay the tournament entry fee for all but three (3) held tournaments, have a total of eighty (80) points or more at the end of the regular season, and each adult member of the team must sell at least one (1) book of raffle tickets (1 book = 25 tickets). Teams may back-pay tournament entry fees for any missed regular season tournaments until the close of registration at the last regular tournament. There will be 4 Post-Season Payout pots. (1) Big Mama Pots. The regular season will be divided into two splits. The first split includes the first 4 held regular tournaments. The second split includes the remaining held regular tournaments. Teams may win more than one Big Mama prize per split. The pot will be built at the rate of $5 per boat per regular tournament. The pots for the two season splits may vary depending on the number of boats entered in each split. Five Big Mama prizes per split will be awarded. 1 30%, 2 25%, 3 20%, 4 15%, 5 10%. Additionally a $250 Biggest Big Mama prize will be awarded for the heaviest fish caught during the regular season. (2) Overall Points Payout. $1 per point per team will be awarded to every team that meets the post season qualifications. (3) Plus, Teams 1 thru 5 in the points race will receive $500, $400, $300, $200, $100, respectively. (4) Championship Payout. This event will be two (2) one-day tournaments + the team with the heaviest 2-day total weight will be declared State Champions and receive an additional $500 prize. Exact dates and lake site(s) will be announced later. Championship rules will be issued. In the event of inclement weather on tournament day, the President may call a Board meeting to discuss cancellation. Those members of the Governing Board present will meet and may cancel the tournament. Entry fees for canceled tournaments that are not rescheduled will be returned. Canceled tournaments do not count toward qualification for Post-Season activities or payouts. The Tournament Director is in charge of all activities on tournament day. At his discretion, teams may be subject to polygraphs, boat checks, and official observers. In the event a protest is lodged, the Tournament Director will listen to the initial complaint and may decide to take the protest to the Protest Committee as provided in the Club's By-Laws. Protests must be filed with the Tournament Director on the day of the tournament. All Protest Committee and Tournament Director decisions are final. There is no appeals process.
7 Page Issue 8 Apr 25, 2012 Sardis ~ Top Teams Long-liners for life, Jared Gray with guest Josh Byford, brought an impressive stringer of 7 crappie weighing lbs to the scales.
