9 A. THE CLASSIC PHOENICIAN AND CEDARS TEAMS 1) Host: Under Team Captains on an alternate-year basis. Guest team to tee-off first. 2) The Draw: Traditionally, the Friday evening before the Classic. Alternate matching of Betterball pairings by both teams. Spinning of the Coin gives Team Captains the choice of who casts 1st pairing forward. If applicable, alternate the draw between 1st/10th tees. At the Draw, present the following: (1) Order of Merit tables, with official Club Handicaps of all competing players; (2) Nomination of 3 Phoenician/Cedars representatives to resolve any disputes on the day, and to collect official Game results from their teams. 3) Team selection: Currently, 22 players per team, based on Phoenician/Cedars Order of Merit tables. Team Captains have benefit of automatic selection, if they so choose. Replacements in ascending order from position 22. No wild card selections currently. B. FORMAT OF THE CLASSIC 1) Format: 18-hole Betterball Matchplay. Lowest handicap (up/down) to Scratch. 2) Points: Per match (1 point per win; ½ point for half). Total points (11 points, based on 11 matches) = 6 points constitutes a Team Win; 5 ½ points each a Draw. 3) Handicaps: Official Betterball Club ( lower ) allowance. Players must have an official Club handicap, else Team Captains to discuss (Note: 2008 decision: use Phoenician/Cedars handicap with the following proviso: 85% of handicap for 12; 90%<12). C. MATCH DECISIONS AND RULINGS 1) Match decisions: Official R&A rules will apply. Any decision agreed within each match is final. An individual s decision qualifies as a team decision, and is final, e.g. if one player of the team concedes a putt/hole/match, it will apply as a team decision. 2) Rulings: For indecision on ruling, a 2nd ball can be played, with concurrent match scores kept until an official R&A ruling. The Club Pro to act as referee on local rules. Any ungentlemanly behaviour will be susceptible to action as deemed fit by both Team Captains - disciplinary action may include suspension from future Phoenician/Cedars games. D. DETERMINING THE WINNER Tournament Rules 1) Final result: Only final once all 4-balls have posted their official game result with a Phoenician/Cedars representative no matter what, i.e. 18-hole result; Number-of-holes completed; Rain-out; etc and both Team Captains and/or Chairman agree to the result. 2) The Winner: (a) No result if 100% of the field has not completed 9-holes (aim is then to try and replay The Classic; (b) Otherwise, the first team to secure 6 points over an 18-hole Matchplay result will be the Winner, with 5½ points each constituting a Draw; (c) For incomplete match results (due to lightning/bad light/etc): all Team/Match results to be determined over the same number of holes as completed by the field, e.g. if the last 4-ball, as a benchmark, completed 15-holes, then all Match results will be decided over 15-holes; and all Team/Match results on all subsequent holes played will fall away!! (This rule has agreement of both Chairmen and Committee representatives of both clubs). 3) The Trophy: (a) For a draw, the Holder will retain the cup ( RTC ), and inscribe [the Holder] RTC e.g. Phoenicians RTC or Cedars RTC ; (b) For a Win, inscribe Phoenicians or Cedars ; (c) Else No Result if such, and if not replayed that year. 4) Official closing of the Course: (a) Lightning: At the sounding of a weather siren, or immediately when a player and his 4-ball are notified to the suspension of the Game, play must cease at that precise point. Play can only continue upon official re-opening of the Course; (b) Bad light: unless Team Captains agree, the Club Manager and/or Club Pro will referee in determining suspension of play. *Any hole started must be completed.
