1 CELEBRATING 14 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Nashville Chapter - American Singles Golf Association June 2007 The President s Corner I was having trouble coming up with a topic for this month s newsletter. I can't say that I had writer s block because that would imply that I was a writer. I thought I would try to get Judy to fill in by writing the story that she told at the last meeting. It was at that moment, I had the topic for this month. If you were at the meeting then you got to hear Judy s story. For those members not in attendance, they missed a very funny tale about Judy trying to get home from the outing at the Villages. I would like to use this opportunity to encourage all members to attend the monthly meetings. There is always a good time to be had. All you need to do is show up. This is your association what you put into it you will get out of it. We have about 80 members, but I have met less than 50. Come to the meetings so I can get to know everyone. I would like to see every member before the end of the year. The Kodak outing is coming up this month. It looks like we are going to have a full field again this year. If you have not signed up, do so now this is an outing you don't want to miss. I will see you there. ~Robin Roper, President Out of Town Activities The Villages was a most interesting unofficial event attended by 10 from Nashville. The weather was outstanding, the golf courses great with Katie Bells and the Main Street Bistro providing a tremendous venue for dancing and evening entertainment. It is amazing to see as many folks running around in golf carts as there are in cars. The local folks are excited about having us back next year. Thanks to Eddie Manson for a fun, fun event. 25 from Nashville enjoyed another enjoyable weekend at the Battle of Tim's Ford May The bad news is that we lost to Atlanta by a score of 7 1/2 to 4 1/2. You can note the individual scores elsewhere in the Newsletter. The weather was an absolutely perfect hi 70's - lo 80's and the golf course was in excellent condition. Tommy James did his normal outstanding job on the Saturday night cookout. A note from Atlanta President Debbie Davis stated "thanks to the entire Nashville group for the hospitality. We all enjoyed our stay in your state. Please share our accolades with your entire team. They were all great!" We are expecting over 130 at Kodak June with 39 of our members from Nashville signed up at this time. Call me to see if there has been any last minute cancellations and join us for this 8th Annual Tennessee Carolina Challenge. The River Islands Golf Course is one of the best in the state plus we have the opportunity to play the Dandridge Golf and Country Club and options on Patriot Hills and Eagle's Landing. Everyone be prepared for the pool party at the Best Western Dumplin Valley Inn on Friday and Saturday nights and remember to bring your own drink of choice to the event since the area is in a "dry" county. ~Bob Blaylock Upcoming Event: New Years Event Location, dates, etc TBA in Sept. 4 Winning Smiles Headline...Ms. Blaylock Plays in the Mothers Day Shamble! Never let it be said that the Nashville group doesn t take advantage of each and every opportunity to have clean fun and good fellowship. Our Mothers Day event at Henry Horton had an unusual twist. Due to a late cancellation by a lady golfer, Bob Blaylock had to hit for the missing lady as well as himself in our shamble. Bob did a good job by finishing on the 2nd place team, and in the running for Men s longest drive. However, Ms."Roberta" Blaylock did even better! Roberta was also on the 2nd place team, 2nd in Women s long drive, 2nd in the closest to the pin on hole #6, and most impressive, closest to the pin on #14. Way to go Roberta. This mysterious lady will definitely be courted by all as a team member. Talent of this nature will not go unnoticed. Also, a big thanks to Jerry McNall for arranging this event and hosting the 19th hole at his home. ~Jim Lazenby, Golf Chair MEMBERSHIP On May 16, 2007, the Nashville Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association met at Dan McGuinness Irish Pub. We had 30 members participate and 5 guests, three of whom joined our chapter. Our newest members are Steve Wagner, John Wagner and Jerry Wendling. Other guests include Gary Moore and Joani Terlune. A great time was had by all with new adventures and friendships in the future. ~Susan O Reilly Golf Tip Copied from Golf Digest, May 2007 Question: I ve heard you talk about ready golf in the past. Would you recommend a woman tee off first if she can t reach the group in front of her but the men in her foursome can? Answer: Absolutely, as long as it saves time and the course design allows for it. If I m sharing a cart with a guy and the forward tees are within walking distance, I ll grab my driver and walk to my tee while he s waiting to tee off. If he s still waiting when I get there, I happily go first. Then, I ll get out of harms way while my playing companion tees off and wait to get picked up after he s done. But, if it will take me longer to walk to my tee than it would for the fairway to clear, I ll wait. I can still use the time to take a couple of practice swings and make sure I am ready to swing away once we reach my tee. Common sense should prevail. It s really no different from ready golf in the fairway. Golf Stories A golfer teed up his ball on the first tee, took a mighty swing and hit his ball into a clump of trees. He found his ball and saw an opening between two trees he thought he could hit through. Taking out his 3- wood, he took another mighty swing; the

5 ball hit a tree, bounced back hit him in the forehead and killed him. As he approached the gates of Heaven, St Peter saw him coming and asked, "Are you a good golfer," to which the man replied, "Got here in two, didn't I?" Police are called to an apartment and find a woman holding a bloody 5-iron standing over a lifeless man. The detective asks, "Ma'am, is that your husband?" "Yes" says the woman. "Did you hit him with that golf club?" "Yes, yes, I did." The woman begins to sob, drops the club, and puts her hands on her face. "How many times did you hit him?" "I don't know, five, six, maybe seven times... just put me down for a five." A gushy reporter told Phil Michelson, "You are spectacular, and your name is synonymous with the game of golf. You really know your way around the course. What's your secret?"
