Please give us your full support in order to make this the best ASGA chapter out there. Please give these officers and committee chairs your support and assistance. We had 40 people to come out to play Carolina National on Sunday, November 15th! Way to go and what a beautiful course! As we move into the holiday season and into a new year, I wish each of you happiness, peace and most of all, lower golf scores. We are working hard to create many new venues for the upcoming year and always appreciate input and suggestions from YOU! Please see the enclosed flier for details. ~Ann Howell, President Golf News We played Oak Island on Sunday, October 25th. As always, everyone had a wonderful time. The format was 'play your own ball'. Jan VanDerVliet had low gross score for women with a score of 90. Low gross score for men was a 77 shot by Dave Cummings. Congratulations to Jan and to Dave for their fabulous rounds!! Jan and Dave each won the closest to the pin honors, as well!!! More CON- GRATS to Jan and Dave!!!! After golf, everyone enjoyed food and drink in the Clubhouse restaurant. On Sunday, November 15th we had a spectacular day for golf at Carolina National. Everyone played their own ball. No one skipped a beat in keeping up the pace of play despite 'cart-path-only' on the front 9! Our prizes were for 'Closest to the Pin' for men and for women. Two for men; two for women. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 'CLOSEST TO THE PIN' WINNERS: Faye Curren Angel Landry Buck Rogers Ricky Robinson After golf, most everyone ate in the Grill and continued to enjoy the fun, laughter and socializing. Please note that Mike Petruzzi, the 2010 Golf Chair has posted the 2010 Golf Schedule at the end of the newsletter with dates filled in as we know them now. Our last event for 2009!! Our December golf event is at Belvedere on December 13 th with a shotgun starting at 11 am. Please call or Fran to sign up for all events: or franyoung@earthlink.net. ~Fran Young, 2009 Golf Chair FYI: In 2009, at all golf events where the course has bag boys to assist players, Fran will be collecting $1 from each WSGA player and guest. The course will be told our policy in advance. Regarding cancellations: Please call or Fran Young 3-4 days in advance if you think or know that you will not be able to attend the event for any reason (including the weather)!!! Watch the forecast even if it s often wrong!!! Just a reminder, on the closest to the pin holes, the ball must be on the green to qualify to compete. A ball closer to the hole, but off the green does not beat a ball further away from the hole that is on the green. Just want to make sure there is no confusion on this point. Dependent on the format/eating location, attempts will be made to present winnings on the day of the golf outing. If NOT awarded on day of play, prize winnings shall be given out at the next scheduled monthly meeting. If the winner is not present, or does not coordinate with either Ann or Fran to have prize winnings picked up by another member, monies shall be forfeited and returned to the Treasury 3 months after the next monthly meeting following the scheduled event. We hope you will join us often for meetings, golf outings, and social events. Each member should try to recommend three (at least) single golfers for membership and provide those names. WILMINGTON CHAPTER ASGA - POLICY FOR GOLF EVENTS Wilmington Chapter ASGA Policy for Golf Events 1. Captain s choice using each person s drive at least 3 times will prevail during 1) in climate conditions or 2) cart path only or 3) as determined by the *golf chair(s). 2. Members should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to tee off. Late arrivals may forfeit their place if their group has teed-off and there is no vacancy in another group. 3. Members should contact golf chair(s) at least 48 hours before a registered event if unable to play; emergencies not withstanding. 4. Any member who is a no-show for a registered event will be assessed ten ($10) before being allowed to participate in another event. *Event planner

5 2010 WILMINGTON ASGA WINTER CHILL The Wilmington chapter of ASGA is again happy to sponsor The Winter Chill. Come out for a fun filled weekend starting on Friday February 26 th and ending on Sunday February 28 th. We will be returning to the Pinehurst area once again to the Country Club of Whispering Pines ( the site of Winter Chill The country club boasts two lovely golf courses, the Pines and the River course, each offering it's own individual challenges. The resort has guest accommodations and a magnificent ball room which will be the setting for the Dinner dance on Saturday night as well as our Friday night registration party and breakfasts each morning. The weekend will consist of 2 rounds of golf, Saturday on the Pines course and Sunday on the River course with complimentary range balls, 2 full breakfast buffets both days, Friday night registration party and a dinner dance on Saturday night. There will be an optional round of golf on Friday at Foxfire resort and golf club ( The fun filled week- will also include door prizes on Saturday night along with prize money (amount to be determined based on attendance), and a 50/50 raffle. There will also be a raffle for a weekend golf getaway donated by The Country Club of Whispering Pines. Of course, there is also the charm and grandeur (and shopping) offered by the historic area of Pinehurst. Information and maps will be available. Past events have been very well received and folks have always had an enjoyable time (with or without the co-operation of the weather). This year we put in our request for some good weather so a good time can be had by all. So mark your calendars and send in your registration forms early, you will want to participate in this annual golf event and have a great time at the 2010 Winter Chill. In October, chapters should have elected their chapter president for the 2010 calendar year beginning January 1. At the November meetings, chapters are suppose to elect their committee heads. All of this is according to your chapter bylaws ( If you have not elected your leaders for next year, please make sure you do it by the end of November. As soon as you have completed your elections, please inform the national office by submitting the new names to: A Time to Give a Little Thanks Thank you s are something we should and probably do hand out daily. At this time of the year, we do look back and can be very thankful for all of the folks who ve made this year a success. But special thankyou s go out to our chapter presidents. These are the folks on the front line who accept as volunteers the burden of anything headed their way. When someone else doesn t do their job, it s the chapter president who fills in. So take a little time this year to thank your president and other chapter leaders who ve made a difference.
