1 CELEBRATING 22 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Orlando Chapter - American Singles Golf Association April 2014 In Memoriam Our beloved longtime member Terry Kuschel passed away on Monday, March 10th after a courageous battle with cancer. The Orlando chapter of ASGA will be making a donation to Wounded Warriors in Terry's memory. If individual members desire to make a donation, it can be mailed to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box , Topeka, Kansas We would like to share this Afterglow in memory of Terry - I d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I d like to leave an Afterglow of Smiles when the day is done. I d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave behind when the day is done. President s Remarks What a great time we had at Mission Inn this year. Weather, food, accomodations and golf courses were all excellent. Thanks to Barney we had a successful outing. Good job Barney. As we look into the rest of the year, the board will try to have at least one social event every month. Also we will look into the weekend getaways to determine our options. Hope to see many of you at the Masters Party on the 13th. ~Bruce Misko Social Chair We have some exciting plans for the month of April for you! On April 13, we will gather at member Sue Walther's home to watch the Final Round of the Master's Golf Tournament. The chapter will be providing appetizers and beverages, so come out and join the fun! Then, on April 17, we will enjoy Happy Hour at Sam Snead's Tavern and Grille in Maitland. Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy the reduced prices on drinks and food while we console ourselves after Tax Day! Sammie is transferring his ASGA membership from Ohio to Florida. The Golf Chair wants to thank Suzanne Casto, Steve Hall, Bruce Misko, Linda Marcet, and Bob Driscoll for all they did to make the Fling come together. 135 ASGA members from around the country enjoyed the beauty of Mission Inn, great weather, challenging golf, and had a wonderful time! They are the final twosome in the Polish Country Club Championship and are tied for the lead. The 18th hole is a beautiful par four with a deep valley descending to a dogleg right. Both Zig and Stosh hit long, straight tee shots which disappear down into the valley. A short time later, the fore caddie appears at the top of the hill and announces that both balls are within 6 inches of each other, but there's a problem. Both of the golf balls are Titleist # 4s. Zig and Stosh look at each other and realize that they had not informed each other as to what kind of ball they were playing, nor its number. They quickly descend into the valley and, sure enough, their two Titleist golf balls are right next to each other at the bottom of the valley in the middle of the fairway. Stosh looks at Zig and says, "We had better get a ruling from a tournament official to straighten this out. This is the Polish Country Club Championships and we don't want to be disqualified for making a mistake and hitting the wrong ball. After all, we are tied for the lead." Soon after, a rules official appears and examines the two # 4 Titleist golf balls. He then looks up at Zig and Stosh and asks, "Which one of you is playing the orange ball? 7 ASGA WESTERN REUNION May 30-June 1, 2014 Every year we have a May golf outing and National has one back east over Memorial Weekend. They annually call theirs The Reunion. So this year we have tabbed ours The Western Reunion. We have also picked a location that most of the members of western chapters of ASGA can get to easily. It s Carson City, home of The Devine Nine, located 30 minutes south of the Reno-Tahoe Airport in Nevada s Capital City. We have scheduled golf on Saturday, May 31st and Sunday, June 1st allowing those to travel home late on the 1st or take Monday off and travel then. Golf is scheduled for Dayton Valley on Saturday and Sunridge on Sunday, both beautiful layouts. We have a two night, two golf day package with a dinner on Saturday night plus breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday. The standard package includes lodging, golf, two breakfasts and Saturday dinner. We have both single and double occupancy available. We will be staying at the Gold Dust Resort Hotel and Casino. The rates are as follow: Standard package: Junior Suite: Dble Occ. $250/person, Single Occ. $340/person (double queens or king available) If you want to get in early and play golf, we have a bonus round available at Silver Oak, for an additional $50.
