1 CELEBRATING 22 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Kansas City Chapter - American Singles Golf Association - July 2014 President s Report Dear Single Golfers, I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far. It seems the weather has cooperated with us most of the time with one exception Longview Golf Course on June 28. To say that we got rained on at Longview would be an understatement. We got hit with buckets of rain before we could finish. Here is how we are going to handle that situation: Longview issued each participating member rain checks for 9 holes. Maureen, our patient host of this event, gave back most of the rain checks but please see me if you did not receive yours. The $5 prize money and the $5 mulligan money that were collected at the beginning of the round will be refunded to the members that paid for those items. If you wish to receive this money, you will need to make arrangements with me to get your money returned. No checks/cash will be mailed. If you do not claim your money by August 21, it will be deposited into our Awards Banquet Fund. The $1 paid into the Hole in One Fund will be deposited into that account. A couple of thank yous are in order. Thank you to Darlene for hosting the Wine & Dine event at Falcon Valley Golf Club on July 11. The golf was great and the BBQ dinner was excellent. Bob M and Mara hosted a fantastic golf event and dinner July 12 th at the Country Club of Leawood. Their generosity was greatly appreciated by everyone lucky enough have their name drawn at last month s general meeting and those who were chosen as their partners. Thank you both for hosting such a unique event. One last thing, we are in the process of changing our mode of communication from Yahoo to another more reliable program. The Yahoo account has become very burdensome to work with. Dick is in the process of fixing the situation. I will let you know when this project is completed. May thy ball lie in green pastures, and not in still waters. -- Ben Hogan ~Dohn Kennyhertz, President KCSGA Fundraising Update Thank you all for your support of the event at the Country Club of Leawood hosted by Bob and Mara and be sure to thank them the next time you see them for their generosity. A couple of pictures of the event are included in this month s newsletter. We raised a total of $765 which will be used to help offset this year s banquet costs at Blue Hills Country Club. Now that the Leawood event has been completed, the chapter will be conducting other fundraisers this year, including the popular 50/50 raffles as we have in the past. Each month from now through October tickets will be sold at each general meeting for $1 each or 6 for $5. There will be a winner drawn at the end of the evening with the chance to win 50% of whatever was raised at that meeting. The other 50% will go to the chapter. The more tickets you buy the better your odds to win, AND, the higher your potential winnings could be! Seven people won a spot to play the Lucky, and then they chose seven players of the opposite sex the Chosen to play. Including our hosts, four foursomes competed in an alternate shot scramble. We were all surprised and delighted at every turn to see how creative and generous Bob and Mara were in planning and implementing the tournament. The entire day was nothing less than spectacular. There are not enough thank yous in the world to express the sincere gratitude of all the members of KCSGA for this very successful fund raising event. Bob and Mara you re the BEST! Golf Chair Report We are into the summertime months of our KCSGA season. With the unseasonably cool summer so far, the courses have been in great shape. Longview GC proofed challenging, being the first rain impacted outing in several years. I hope everyone made it off the course dry, safe and sound. I can t hit a seven iron too well, and with all the lightening, I was afraid the golfing gods could, so we hurried and got off the course just in time. Thanks, Maureen, for hosting this event. KCSGA had a great turnout again this year for the annual 4 th of July event at Falcon Lakes. Fred ordered up ideal golf weather and did a heck of a job as usual coordinating this event for our chapter. The first place team is pictured in this newsletter along with a photo of Tom P s Not Quite Hole-In-One. Although no photo to share, a little birdie told me that Anita had a close one, too. Coming up on July 26 th is Eagles Bend in Lawrence hosted by Rick B and Bev. This is a course I ve not yet played but have heard only great things. Watch for s and sign up sheets at the meeting. Unfortunately, I ll be in Wisconsin playing a bit of golf, so everyone please fill me in on your experiences after playing this course. Our annual weekend to Firekeeper is also just around the corner August 16 th and 17 th. The course has been a bit tricky to work with this year and mucho thanks to Dave for riding herd on this event. If you have never played Firekeeper, you will be impressed with this fine track. Mark your calendars for Iron Horse on 8/23, Labor Falcon Lakes, Prairie Highlands on 9/6, Adams Pointe on 9/20 and the Fall road trip to Branson September 26 th, 27 th and 28 th. Look for the sign up sheets for all upcoming events at Thursday s meeting. I hope everyone can take advantage of this fine cooler weather here in the middle of summer and get in some extra rounds. See ya ll soon. ~Bob Fischer Firekeeper August 16 th & 17 th Join us August 16 th and 17 th at the Firekeeper Golf Course adjacent to the Prairie Band Casino in Mayetta, Kansas just a short hour or so drive from KC Metro. This is a fun trip to an excellent golf course, designed by PGA professional Notah Begay. Tee times start at 10 AM on Saturday and 8:50 AM on Sunday. The group normally stays at the hotel/casino, gathers at the steakhouse for dinner on Saturday and heads to the course early on Sunday for breakfast burritos. At this point we have only 13 people signed up, so we have room for 11 more. The deadline for room reservations has been extended to August 9 th. Room and golf rates have been set and distributed via . Please let me know if you wish to join our group on this fun road trip. ~Dave B Social Chair Report Although we didn t have a First Friday in July, the Nine, Wine, & Dine at Falcon Valley Golf Course on Friday, July 11, was a great alternative. A big thank you goes to Darlene for organizing and hosting this event. Twenty-seven people turned out to play this lovely course. I m not sure if it was just a rumor, but I heard that there was even a personal bartender that appeared on the 8th green with made -to-order gin and tonics. It was a fun evening and we wrapped it up with a delicious BBQ dinner in the clubhouse.

3 Our next First Friday is scheduled for Friday, August 1, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Nick & Jake's (6830 W 135th St, Overland Park, KS 66223). They have $1 off large draft beers, wine by the glass, well drinks, and specialty drinks.
