1 CELEBRATING 18 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Kansas City Chapter - American Singles Golf Association - March 2011 President s Note March is here and so is baseball. This is exciting for a couple of reasons. First, baseball season coincides with golf season. If the Royals or your favorite team is playing, we're playing too. Second, March means a renewal of Spring. I think all of us have had our fill of Old Man Winter. He seemed especially disagreeable this time. Mark has come up with an exciting schedule for 2011 and with the expected participation, it's going to be a great year. Our exhibit at the KC Golf Show was a big success and generating interest from prospective new members. Thanks to Dohn Kennyhertz and all of the volunteers for marshalling that event for us. Some members have inquired about the charity we supported at the end of last year. Tabitha's Closet is an ongoing charity that helps school children in need with clothing. Anyone who still wishes to help can bring used school-age children s clothing or a monetary donation to the meeting or any event I'm at and I can get it to Tabitha's Closet. Newsletters Going Green: Please read. This ASGA Natl note was in last month s newsletter, but in case you missed it, please read. For about 18 years now, the national office has been printing news-letters for local chapters and mailing them via snail mail. However, for the past two years, we ve worked out the kinks on getting your news-letter to you via . Advantage: you get your newsletter 3-6 days earlier than through snail mail. Therefore, effective with the March, 2011 newsletters, every member who has an address on file with the national office will be sent an electronic newsletter UNLESS you OPT-IN for a printed newsletter. Members joining or renewing after January 1, 2011 will automatically receive e- newsletters unless they opt-in for a printed newsletter. If you choose a printed newsletter, you will not receive the electronic newsletter any longer. Details at Singles- Golf.com/newsletters. 2 Kansas City Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association Ready to Play Golf? Dust off those golf clubs. Mark Slator, our Golf Chair and his sidekick, Bob Haefele, report that our first golf outing will be Sat, April 16th at Creekmoor in Raymore, MO. If you have never played Creekmoor, you gotta go. Mark & Bob are working hard to assemble our full golf calendar of events and it will be available soon. Want to go to the Lake of the Ozarks to play golf with the group? Mark your calendars for May and watch for details. TM KCSGA Exhibited at KC Golf Show Feb 18-20, 2011 President Larry Shockley Vice President Mara Kelley Golf Chair Mark Slator In our 10 year history, this was a first for KCSGA. Dohn Kennyhertz, our Membership Chair, and his sidekick, Joyce Smith, spearheaded a KCSGA booth exhibit at the KC Golf show. Sixteen KCSGA members volunteered to work in the booth to share more information about our club to participants who stopped by. More than 5,500 people attended the three day show Feb at the Overland Park Convention Center. Our booth was just across from the 19th Hole how appropriate! Dohn reports that 41 potential new members signed up for our list during the show and one lucky golfer, Joe Wallau, won 2 golf passes to Deer Creek. Our thanks to Deer Creek for their generous gift and to Dohn & Joyce for our successful exhibit. Sunday afternoon when it s cold, rainy & very foggy they go bowling and then eat Mexican food. About 20 bowlers gathered at Park Lanes in Shawnee Sunday and then trooped over to Panzon s in Lenexa for food and refreshments. Thanks to Curtis & Judy for organizing the outing. KCSGA bowlers Eating at Panzon s Getting to Know KCSGA Members: Have you met Kathy Nelson yet? Barb Higgins introduced her to the group and Kathy immediately joined KCSGA after attending her first general meeting at Birdies on Feb 17 th. Kathy was born and raised in the KC area and comes from a large family 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She learned to play golf with her father and brothers and enjoyed playing against them, win or loose. Kathy has two hole-in-ones to her credit. She feels very blessed to have played the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland and to have walked across that famous bridge. She would love to go back some day. Besides golf, Kathy loves to watch soccer. She has 6 children and 7 grand children and loves to root for them as they play sports. Kathy is the purchasing manger for a printing company. Be sure to say Hello and introduce yourself to Kathy when you see her at an upcoming event.

4 Trip to Australia & New Zealand for Bob & Luisa Bob Haefele & Luisa Cadavillo s three-week trip in February began with a nice, long flight to Melbourne, Australia where they attended the Australian Open Tennis. They watched one Men s Semifinal match, Mixed & Women s doubles championships in Rod Laver Arena--a wonderful experience. They took a tour along the Great Ocean Road to the 12 Apostles (rock formations along the ocean). Wow, what a view! The people in Melbourne, Australia and New Zealand are very friendly and their cities are so clean. Bob & Luisa left Australia to cruise around New Zealand enjoying excursions to six ports such as: In Auckland, they saw Kelly Tarlton s Underwater World & Penguins and Sky Tower. In Tauranga, they saw a big display of geysers and boiling mud at the Te Puia Thermal Reserve and stopped at the cities of Napier, Wellington, Christchurch and Picton. Yes, they spent some time in Christchurch and all its beauty, two weeks before the devastating earthquake. It was a great trip. Bob at overlook of 12 Apostles Bob & Luisa in Australia KCSGA Members Escape KC Cold Temps to AZ Several of our KCSGA members escaped the KC cold temperatures to play golf in AZ this winter and met up with former KC member, Frank Pianalto, now residing in Waddell, AZ. Besides those pictured below, Tom Ritchie also made a visit for a golfing getaway. Rhonda, Curtis, Bev, Konnee & Frank

5 Fun Super Bowl Party Thanks to Dick Summers for hosting KCSGA members at his Overland Park club house to watch the Super Bowl on Feb 6 th. We enjoyed hot soup and cold refreshments while watching an exciting Packers Super Bowl win over the Steelers. And even though you usually want to watch the commercials during this game, some members found time for a putting challenge and use of some swing training devices while it was snowy outside.
