Robby Watson Dear Bartram Trail Golf Club Members, I know it s been a while since we have sent out our Newsletter to the membership of Bartram Trail Golf Club, but we re BACK!!! We would like to thank you once again for your membership, it s something we never take for granted and we truly appreciate you being the backbone of our club. We have had a very wet winter, no doubt. This is the most rain I can ever remember having during the winter and I have been in the golf business here in Augusta for over 25 years! It was so bad that we had to stay with Cart Path Only for longer than any of us would have liked. I appreciate everyone that adhered to the rule, as I know Cart Path Only is a burden on some of our members. I can promise you the staff of Bartram Trail Golf Club doesn't like it any more than you do, and only do it to protect the course for the long run. Our Superintendent Jeff Lloyd has come up with a solution to try and fix the drainage area on #14 that we are all hoping will be a success. I believe Jeff and his staff have the course in great shape as we head in to Masters Week, and we should all appreciate the hard work that Jeff and his staff do to maintain and keep Bartram Trail one of the finest courses in the area, Masters Week is nearly upon us and you all know it is a big week for the club. We know that many clubs in the area discourage their members from playing during Masters Week...not Bartram Trail Golf Club. The staff at Bartram Trail will be glad to try to accommodate you a tee time if you would like to play Masters Week. We know you may have guests coming to town and want to come out to the club for a round of golf with them. Give us a call and we ll do our best for you. On another note, if you would like to rent your golf clubs, or if you have an extra set that you would like to rent, please contact me at robby.bartramtrail@comcast.net We rent several sets during Masters Week and I have never had any problems and it s a good way to make a little extra money. I would like to encourage all of our members to stop by the Grill area in the clubhouse and say hello to Scott Todd, our new Food and Beverage manager at Bartram Trail. He has brought a lot of new ideas to the menu and his barbeque is AMAZING, and if you haven t tried it you are missing out on some good food! 2 Welcome Home Assistant Pro...Jacob Tilton Jacob Tilton returns to his golf roots as one of our Assistant Golf Professionals at Bartram Trail Golf Club. Jacob was a fixture at Bartram Trail Golf Club as a junior golfer, as well as leading the Evans High School golf team as they competed at Bartram Trail. Following high school graduation Tilton earned a spot on the Armstrong Atlantic University golf team in Savannah, Georgia. Tilton played four years for the Pirates, enjoying tremendous success on and off the golf course. Jacob Tilton Throughout his high school years Tilton could be seen daily honing his game on the range, on the practice putting green and on the course competing with the Bartram Trail Men s Golf Association Saturday morning dogfight every week. 3 Zach Atkinson Robby Watson Matthew Barman Jacob Tilton Tip From The Pros Check your Alignment Most golfers do not line up to their target correctly. Improper alignment will result in a poor golf shot. Proper alignment for a golf shot should include your shoulders, hips and feet parallel to your target. A good way to practice proper alignment is to use either an alignment rod or a couple of golf clubs. Place them in a position that is parallel to your target. However, use caution, for the rules of golf do not allow you to do this while playing a round of golf on the course. This drill should be used on the practice tee only. 4 Superintendent s Corner... From Jeff Lloyd...We survived El Nino.. We survived El Nino, which honestly was in question! The amount of water the course had to deal with was incredible, and we thank the membership for being very cooperative under the conditions we were working with. What s Happening on the course in April There may be questions on what the white lines are on the edges of the greens. What we are doing is protecting the long term life of the greens. NO...we are not shrinking the greens! However, on a related subject, the greens are in fantastic shape! I would like to ask the membership for something...please take a look at the areas BEYOND THE ROPES on #4 and #12...I believe you will notice how GREEN and thick that grass is where carts don t go. I point that out so everyone can see what carts do to the grass. It compacts it and slows growth. We would greatly appreciate it if our members would always use the 90 degree rule, stay on the cart paths until you get parallel to your ball and then travel to your ball. It protects the golf course and keeps it looking great. For the Homeowner If you haven t put out your pre-emerge you need to do that immediately to control crab grass. A good product for that is called Dimension and is available at Home Depot or John Deere Landscape. Get it in granular form and you can put it out yourself. Please feel free to call me at my work number and ask me any questions you may have about your lawn care. I ll be glad to help you and make recommendations that will help you maintain a beautiful lawn throughout the summer months. If you have Bermuda or zoysia grass you should scalp the turf now, bag it up and get ready for a healthy lawn. Have a great time golfing at Bartram Trail Jeff Lloyd Bartram Trail Men s Golf Association BTMGA President, Russell Maddox The Bartram Trail Men s Golf Association would like to invite new members to join us for our Saturday morning Dogfight. It s a great way to meet your fellow members and not have to worry about having a tee time on Saturday mornings! Check in at the Pro Shop/Snack Bar by 8:00am on Saturday mornings, join the BTMGA, and we ll put you in a group and we ll tee off at 8:30am. The Dogfight scoring is based on your handicap so it s a fair system for all golfers, of all skill levels. Based off of 36 points, you take your handicap away from 36. For example, if you are a 12 handicap, you will need to accumulate 24 points. Eagles are 6 points, birdies are 4 points, pars are 2 points, bogey s are 1 point. Anything over a bogey is 0 points. If you don t have an established handicap then we will lock you into +/- 3 points for the first 3 times you participate in the Dogfight to get an established points level going forward. It s just $15 to play in the Dogfight, and membership is just $30 per year. Join the BTMGA, it s a great way to sharpen your game, have fun and meet a great bunch of guys.

5 Bartram Trail Senior Men s Golf Association BTMGA By Bob Prange We had 34 players on Wednesday which turned out to be another beautiful day after a somewhat chilly start. Scores we pretty much 'in line' with about half the players pulling their quotas and half in the negative column. Nobody really had the hot hand but some respectable scores were posted in a tightly packed field. Squeaking out a narrow victory was TOMMY SLAY. TOMMY did just enough to stay out ahead of the log jam right behind him and his PLUS SEVEN insured that he did not have to 'share' his reward for FIRST PLACE. He claimed the only undivided prize the day. The rest of the leaderboard was jammed up. Two players were a single putt off the lead posting twin PLUS SIXES. They were JERRY MONTGOMERY & ROD LUCE. For their efforts they claimed the combined prize money for SECOND and THIRD PLACE. Right behind in the tightly packed field were two more golfers regretting some missed opportunities. Coming in with identical PLUS FIVEs were JIM BIBLE & BOB PRANGE who had to settle for a paltry split of the FOURTH PLACE pot. Closest-to-the-Pins (5)#3 Tommy Todd 4'11" Par#5 Ronnie Ligon 2'5" Birdie#7 Jim Juntunen 8'2" Par#13 Bob Wolfe 6'11" Par#17 David Hawkins 9'11" Par WRODA went to BOB WOLFE with a diabolical MINUS TWELVE. Hole-in-One is now at $1403! You may have noticed a new name on the C/Ps. DAVID HAWKINS joined in fun on Wednesday and got paid in his first outing. DAVID said has finally got to that station in life where he can take a little time off to enjoy golf and had a good time yesterday. He hopes to be able to play at least once a week. Welcome aboard! Reports have it that BILL JENKINS is back from Florida and is feeling pretty good following his radiation treatment and hopes to rejoin us soon. RAY TIMMERMAN continues his recovery from his back issues. Reports say he is getting better and wants to get back out. CARL MORTON is also recovering from hip and back problems. CARL seldom missed a round but has been out for several months. I know he's chompin at the bit now that Spring has sprung and I'm sure he'll bee back out as soon as he can. Our hard working Chef and Manager, SCOTT TODD will be headed to Brunswick to GET MARRIED! Seriously we wish SCOTT the Best of Luck. He's a great guy and works dang hard while maintaining a cheerful attitude to make our experience more enjoyable. Reminder that NEXT TUESDAY (29th) WILL BE LAUDERDALE/Captains Choice format! NO TOURNAMENTS MASTERS WEEK. Open Golf will be available to members on a Space-Available basis. Call the Club House before coming out. When play resumes after MASTERS, Tee Times will move to 830AM with NLT 8clock check in.don't be late...if you are 2 min late and we do not have any 3somes you will be turned away. Also the TUESDAY DOG FIGHT on 12 April will be Pick-Your-Own Team.
