SIX TIME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS 2014 National Champions 2007 National Champions Tulsa, Okla. Tulsa Country Club Par 70, 6,174 Yards Duke 1st of 24 (1130) Celine Boutier =276 (2, -4) Sandy Choi =286 (T23, +6) Laetitia Beck =288 (T28, +8) Alejandra Cangrejo =290 (T38, +10) Yu Liu =291 (T43, +11) Team =1,130 (+10) Taking the Blue Devils back to Tulsa, Okla., for the fi rst time since claiming his fi rst NCAA Championship in 1999, head coach Dan Brooks guided Duke to a sixth NCAA title in 2014 at the Tulsa Country Club. Duke found itself tied for third after the fi rst day of competition, fi ve shots back of the Oklahoma Sooners, two back of UCLA and even with Southern California and Arizona State. After the second round, the Blue Devils were in sole possession of second place, three shots back of Oklahoma. On day three, Duke made its move, carding a two-under, 278, that gave the Blue Devils a six-shot lead heading into the championship s fi nal round. Duke was led by sophomore Celine Boutier with a three-under, 67, to help the Blue Devils jump into the lead. Southern California had an impressive start in Friday s fi nal round and was able to grab the team lead by as many as four early on the back nine. The Blue Devils though turned in a six-under-par fi nal nine holes to grab a three stroke lead with two holes remaining. Duke featured three birdies on the 466-yard, par fi ve 16th and totaled seven pars on the fi nal two holes to close the victory. The Blue Devils also had only two bogeys as a team on the back nine to help secure the win. Duke shot a six-under, 274, in the fi nal round to beat the Trojans, who fi nished the day with a round of 10-under par, 270. The Blue Devils completed the competition with a NCAA-record low 72-hole team score of 1,130, which was good for 10-over-par. The Blue Devils featured rounds of 293, 285, 278 and 274 for a four-day ledger of 1,130. Southern California (1,132) was second, while UCLA (1,145), Oklahoma (1,147), Arizona State (1,150), Mississippi State (1,157), Arizona (1,158), Ohio State (1,158), Alabama (1,161), Vanderbilt (1,163), Texas A&M (1,163) and NC State (1,163) rounded out the top 10 teams. Doris Chen of Southern California carded a fi nal round, 67, to win the individual title by two strokes with a 72-hole total of 274. Boutier totaled rounds of 70, 70, 67 and 69 to fi nish two strokes behind Chen with a 276. It marked Boutier s second straight top fi ve fi nish in the NCAA Championship as she placed tied fourth as a freshman. Seniors Alejandra Cangrejo and Laetitia Beck led Duke in Friday s fi nal round with matching two-under pars, 68, efforts in their fi nal competitive rounds as college golfers. Boutier, the runner-up individually, fi nished her fi nal round at one-under, 69, as did freshman Sandy Choi. Yu Liu, the ACC Rookie of the Year, registered a two-over-par 72 to end her impressive inaugural campaign. With its impressive spring season, Duke head coach Dan Brooks was tabbed the WGCA National Coach of the Year and Boutier grabbed WGCA National Player of the Year accolades. In the spring, Duke won four tournaments -- Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, Bryan National Collegiate, ACC Championship and NCAA Championship. Boutier was the hottest golfer in the nation during the spring, posting three wins and a stroke average in seven tournaments and a head-to-head record Daytona Beach, Fla. LPGA International Legends Course Par 72, 6,351 Yards Duke 1st of 24 (1,170) Amanda Blumenherst =289 (4th, +1) Anna Grzebien =292 (6th, +4) Jennie Lee =294 (7th, +6) Jennifer Pandolfi =299 (T17, +11) Alison Whitaker =305 (T46, +17) Totals =1,170 (+18) Head women s golf coach Dan Brooks has built a dynasty at Duke University and supplanted his name and the Blue Devils once again atop the women s golf nation in 2007 by taking home Duke s fi fth overall and third straight NCAA Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla. At the LPGA International Legends Course, Brooks guided Duke to a runaway title and matched Arizona State as the only squads to win three consecutive national championships. The Blue Devils are now only one title shy from equaling ASU s total of six championships. The campaign saw a fall season that included two victories in fi ve tournaments, including wins at the season-opening Mason Rudolph Championship and the fi nal fall tournament, which was the NGCA Women s Collegiate Match Play Championship. In the spring, the Blue Devils opened with a second place fi nish at the Wildcat Invitational, while sophomore Amanda Blumenherst heated up her play as she recorded her fi rst of a school-record three straight victories in the spring. Duke went on to win the next two tournaments prior to collecting a fourth place tally at the Bryan National Collegiate to conclude the regular season. Once again, the Blue Devils claimed the ACC Championship with a 35-stroke victory, which marked Duke s 12th straight ACC title. Blumenherst won her second straight ACC individual crown to become the third Blue Devil to win multiple ACC titles. The NCAA season was set to begin in May where the Blue Devils have shined over the last eight years. Duke traveled to Baton Rouge, La., for the East Regional where they had won the 2002 East Region title. The Blue Devils started slow as Duke was tied for 10th after day one and third place after the second round, but was still eight strokes off leader, UCLA. Duke had not played poorly the fi rst two rounds, but just couldn t get any putts to drop. If the team was able to get putts to start falling, the day could be special. Special was what it was on Saturday, May 12 as the Blue Devils went out and shot a school-record 16-under-par, 271, and won the regional by two strokes over UCLA. The round was catapulted by Blumenherst s NCAA record-tying nine-under-par, 63, and the other four Duke golfers each shot under par. Duke headed to the NCAA Championship with excellent momentum coming off the 16-under-par ledger in regional action, but opened the fi rst round in fi fth place, fi ve shots off leader Southern California. The Blue Devils were not happy with the fi rst day of play and came back in the second round to post a team-best one-under-par, 287. With seven birdies over the fi rst fi ve holes, Duke took the NCAA Championship lead just an hour and 15 minutes into the second round and would never let it go over the next three days to claim its third straight title. Leading Duke s charge over the fi nal three days of play was the lone senior on the squad, Anna Grzebien. After opening the tournament with an 80, Grzebien lit a fi re under herself and posted rounds of 70, 72 and 70 to fi nish in sixth place. Grzebien, the 2005 NCAA Individual Champion, was bound and determined to close her career with three consecutive titles.

SIX TIME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS Duke led by seven strokes after two rounds and eight strokes after three days of play. The Blue Devils never let down and carded a remarkable 15-stroke victory even though the fi eld had to battle wind gusts the entire week of miles per hour and a very diffi cult course. When the fi nal round was done, the Blue Devils collected three golfers in the top seven of the individual race as Blumenherst was fourth, Grzebien was sixth and sophomore Jennie Lee was tied for seventh. Junior Jennifer Pandolfi added a 17th place fi nish, while freshman Alison Whitaker was 46th. Lee s seventh place fi nish marked her second straight top-10 ledger in two appearances in the NCAA Championship. With the tremendous coaching job, Brooks was tabbed NGCA National Coach of the Year and Blumenherst received her second straight PING NGCA College Player of the Year award. This came after posting a school-record stroke average on the season National Champions Columbus, Ohio Ohio State Golf Club - Scarlet Course Par 72, 6,203 Yards Duke 1st of 24 (1,167) Jennie Lee =288 (2, E) Amanda Blumenherst =294 (T9, +6) Liz Janangelo =295 (T12, +7) Anna Grzebien =297 (T21, +9) Jennifer Pandolfi =297 (T21, +9) Totals =1,167 (+15) Coming off its third NCAA Championship, the Blue Devils entered the campaign ranked No. 1 nationally for the seventh time over the last eight years. This lofty recognition came even though Duke featured a roster of only fi ve golfers for the second straight year and the Blue Devils had to replace two key team members who combined for 18 top-20 fi nishes a year ago - senior Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh and sophomore Brittany Lang. Duke was not short on talent though as three-time All-America Liz Janangelo, 2005 NCAA Individual Champion Anna Grzebien and ACC Rookie of the Year Jennifer Pandolfi returned to anchor the Blue Devils. Head Coach Dan Brooks once again reloaded the roster with two American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) All-America selections - Amanda Blumenherst and Jennie Lee - and the fi ve-member team was one to be reckoned with. The Blue Devils opened the season with a three-stroke victory at the Mason Rudolph Championship in September as Blumenherst kick-started her collegiate career with a fi ve-stroke record-breaking performance. The Scottsdale, Ariz., product took home medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 208 and became the second Duke freshman to win her fi rst college tournament. Her three-day total of 208 was a Duke freshman record and she won the tournament by a commanding fi ve strokes. Over the next two tournaments, Duke took home team titles at the Tar Heel Invitational and the Stanford Pepsi Women s Intercollegiate, which moved themselves atop all the national rankings. At the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate, the Blue Devils had one of the best performances in women s golf history, registering a schoolrecord 54-hole total of 834, which was propelled by a school-record fi nal round of 271 to win by 27 strokes over second-ranked UCLA. Janangelo collected her seventh career victory with a school-record 54-hole ledger of 202 with rounds of 70, 67 and 65 to lead the Blue Devils to the impressive victory. Blumenherst continued her stellar start to her collegiate career with her ninth straight round of even or under par, which was also a new school record. With the victory, Brooks became the all-time winningest women s golf coach in Division I history with his 92nd career victory, passing San Jose State s Mark Gale. The milestone is something that I didn t really think about much, said Brooks. When I refl ect on it, I am most excited about the great student-athletes that I ve been associated with. I am blessed to be associated with an excellent school to coach at and with the student-athletes that choose to come and play for us. Duke closed out the fall with a second place fi nish at the Auburn Derby Invitational as the host Tigers nipped the Blue Devils by one stroke at the Auburn University Club. In the spring, the Blue Devils opened with a second place fi nish at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational and a third place outcome at the California Guadalajara Invitational. It marked the fi rst time since the campaign that Duke had gone three straight tournaments without winning an event. The so-called drought wouldn t last long as the Blue Devils traveled to Austin, Texas, for the Longhorn Invitational in March and picked up a nine-stroke victory over Texas A&M to win their fourth tournament of the season. Duke was led by Blumenherst, who garnered her second collegiate victory with rounds of 72, 74 and 72 for a total of 218. Duke entered its fi nal regular season tournament at the Bryan National Collegiate with only four golfers as Grzebien traveled out west for the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship. The foursome hung in with the other 16 squads, but ended up fi nishing second to Georgia by fi ve strokes. All four Duke golfers fi nished in the top-13 of the individual race. The Blue Devils went on to claim their 11th straight and 14th overall ACC crown to kick off the postseason led by Blumenherst s third win of the season. She became the 12th Duke golfer to win the individual championship, seventh Blue Devil freshman to win the title and seventh Duke golfer out of the last eight years to win the individual crown. For the fi rst time in the 22-year coaching career of Brooks, the Blue Devils were faced with adversity for the NCAA Regionals. Duke was shipped out of the East Region for the fi rst time in school history and had to travel to Bryan, Texas for the NCAA Central Regional. The Blue Devils faced a very challenging course and ended with their fourth second-place fi nish of the season to Southern California by two strokes. Entering the NCAA Championship, the Blue Devils had been ranked atop the national polls for the entire season, but Duke was not the favorite to win the title. Most media members were saying the fi eld was the most wide open in recent years and were picking Southern California, Purdue, Auburn and UCLA to take home the prestigious title. Duke opened the championship with a nine-over-par round of 297 and sat tied for fi fth, which was six shots out of the lead held by Southern California. The Blue Devils were led by Lee and Pandolfi with rounds of 73 and were tied for 10th in the individual race. On the second day, the Blue Devils teed off early in the morning and would conclude the day with a team-best round of 292, led by Janangelo s one-under-par, 71. Duke left the course in the afternoon with Arizona State leading the fi eld by double-digits, but the Sun Devils faltered over the fi nal fi ve holes, going 11-over-par and held only a three stroke lead over Duke with 36 holes remaining. For the second straight year, the third round would be moving day for the Blue Devils. Duke teed off at 1:20 p.m. and by 3:15 p.m. the Blue Devils held their fi rst lead of the tournament and wouldn t look back. Duke carded a team-best one-under-par, 287, and went from being down three shots to holding a 13-shot advantage going into the fi nal round at the 6,203-yard, par 72 Ohio State Golf Club Scarlet Course. All fi ve of Duke s golfers shot 74 or better, led by Blumenherst s two-under-par, 70, and Janangelo s second straight card of 71, to catapult the Blue Devils to the top

SIX TIME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS I couldn t be happier with the round today, said Brooks. The wind was blowing, the greens were hard and the greens are starting to look like a course that is new. I really had a composed team today and they seemed to be thinking well. Whenever I had a little input for them on the par threes, they took it and took advantage of it. Heading into the fi nal round, Duke held a three-day total of 876 with Southern California (889) and Pepperdine (894) expected to be the Blue Devils top challengers on Friday. Duke remained steady on the fi nal day, battling through an early weather delay to cruise to its fourth NCAA Championship by 10 strokes over Southern California. The Blue Devils posted a fi nal round 291 and registered a 72-hole total of 1,167. I was never really scared to lose the team lead, said Brooks. We had a solid lead coming into today. Once we got through hole four I thought we had a lot of momentum and I was really confi dent. I have been at Duke a long time and this is a great win for the university. Lee, who had gone home prior to the championship to get lessons from her instructor, capped off her improbable run with a fi nal round of 71 to fi nish second individually with an even-par 288. Grzebien and Pandolfi collected rounds of 73 on the fi nal day to pace the fi ve-member Blue Devil squad that was given key production from all fi ve golfers during the championship run. Duke became the fi rst team since Arizona State in 1997 and 1998 to win back-toback championships and the fi rst sports program at Duke University to win four National Championships. Blumenherst concluded her stellar season with a ninth-place fi nish at the NCAA Championship and totaled one of the best seasons in Duke women s golf history with a stroke average, three victories, nine top-fi ve, 11 top-10 and a schoolrecord 24 rounds of even or under par. At the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) banquet, Blumenherst took home the Eleanor Dudley College Player of the Year, National Freshman of the Year, Golfstat Cup and the Edith Cummings Munson Golf Award as the top All- America with the highest grade-point-average. Also at the banquet, Janangelo was presented with her fourth straight fi rst team All-America honor joining only Virada Nirapathpongporn as four-time fi rst team All-Americas in Duke history, while Grzebien earned fi rst team All-America and Lee Honorable Mention All-America citations National Champions Sunriver, Ore. Meadows Golf Course Par 71, 6,312 Yards Duke 1st of 24 (1,170) Anna Grzebien =286 (1st, +2) Brittany Lang =288 (T3, +4) Liz Janangelo =298 (T34, +14) Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh =302 (T55, +18) Jennifer Pandolfi =312 (T107, +28) Totals =1,170 (+34) After coming in 10th and third in the NCAA Championships the last two years, the Duke women s golf team opened the campaign ranked second in the nation, which broke a streak of six straight years being ranked No. 1 nationally in the preseason polls. Even though the Blue Devils boasted a roster of only fi ve golfers, the Mighty-Five had something to prove. The fall started off with fi ve victories in fi ve tournaments and the Blue Devils were back in their familiar position - ranked No. 1. Duke opened the season with a six-stroke victory at the NCAA Fall Preview in Sunriver, Ore. It was highlighted by a then-school-record round of 64 by sophomore Brittany Lang. Lang collected nine birdies in the round and ended up fi nishing third overall with a three-day total of 209. In those fi ve victories, the Blue Devils showed some incredible heart as they came from seven strokes down at the Mason Rudolph Championship to defeat defending NCAA Champion, UCLA, by one stroke. Then at the ACC/SEC Challenge, Duke headed into the fi nal round trailing Auburn by 15 strokes, but led by a NCAA-record round of 62 by Liz Janangelo, the Blue Devils were able to pull off a one-stroke victory to win their fourth straight tournament. The spring started earlier than normal at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Feb. 7, but due to suffering from pneumonia, Janangelo did not travel with the team. The Blue Devils played with only four golfers and fi nished third. Then, Duke traveled to the Lady Gator Invitational and struggled for the second consecutive tournament, fi nishing third. The Blue Devils were back to normal in the next three events, winning the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, Bryan National Collegiate and their 10th straight ACC Championship. The victory at the Bryan National was improbable as Duke traveled once again with only four golfers due to senior Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh was sidelined with a wrist injury. The ACC title came in record fashion, winning by an ACC Championship mark of 47 strokes. Lang continued her impressive spring campaign by winning her second straight ACC Championship and third overall tournament out of fi ve events. All spring the Blue Devils dealt with two very important wrist injuries to sophomore Anna Grzebien and Aazam-Zanganeh. Both were seeing a trainer often and were trying to rest the very important wrists since the Blue Devils only had fi ve golfers on the roster. Next up was the NCAA East Regional where the Blue Devils were the fi ve-time defending region champions, but it was being played on a course where they fi nished third earlier this season. Duke ended up fi nishing second to Ohio State, but it was the coming out party for Grzebien as she registered her fi rst career victory with rounds of to fi nish with a career-best 54-hole total of 209. The Blue Devils then headed for Sunriver, Ore., to compete in the NCAA Championship. Back in 2000, Duke traveled to Sunriver as the No. 1 team and turned in a 14th place fi nish, which was the second-worst turnout in Duke golf NCAA history. Head Coach Dan Brooks grew up in Baker City, Ore., and had many of the same friends and family that were in attendance in 2000 there again in 2005 to cheer on the Blue Devils. It would end up being a special week for the Brooks family as well as the Blue Devils. The lone senior, Aazam-Zanganeh, arrived a day later than everyone else as she graduated from Duke two days prior to the championship starting. Once she got there, Aazam-Zanganeh was ready to add a second NCAA title to her collection. On the fi rst day, Duke hung in with the leaders to fi nish fi fth with a total of 292, which was fi ve strokes off leader, Southern California. Led by freshman Jennifer Pandolfi s round of one-over-par, 72, the Blue Devils battled the high winds and cold weather to stay close in the afternoon. Duke went off in the morning on Wednesday and were faced with more high winds and heavy rain. After all was said and done, the Blue Devils shot a round of 303 and trailed Auburn by nine strokes with 36 holes remaining. Grzebien, Lang and Aazam-Zanganeh each carded rounds of 75 on the day to lead the Blue Devils. Both Grzebien and Aazam-Zanganeh settled into the training room for the fi rst two days and got relief to their injured wrists that seemed to hurt worse with the cold weather. With 36 holes left, the Blue Devils were not fazed with a nine-stroke defi cit as - 6 -

SIX TIME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS earlier in the season they had come back from as many as 15 strokes with 18 holes remaining. The fi rst nine holes on Thursday, which could also be called Moving Day for the Blue Devils, were much like the fi rst two. Then, Brooks made the turn and stopped in the clubhouse to check the scoreboard and found Duke trailing by 10 strokes to Auburn, but as he went back on the course the weather was getting better and the birdies started to arrive. The Blue Devils ended up notching 15 birdies on the back nine and shot 11-underpar over the fi nal nine holes as they shot an amazing six-under-par ledger of 278. From being down 10 strokes to leading by eight over Auburn, the Blue Devils had a comfortable lead going into the fi nal day of play, but Duke knew they had to post a good round on Friday to win a third title. Highlighting Duke s incredible comeback during the third round was Grzebien, who collected a career-best round of 65. She opened play with a bogey on the fi rst hole but then played the next 17 holes at seven-under-par with seven birdies. Grzebien held a four-stroke lead in the individual action and was looking for her second straight victory. I started off with a three-putt and bogied the fi rst hole, said Grzebien. But then I got settled and I was able to leave myself fl at putts. Even though some of them were a little longer, I could at least see the breaks. Also notching stellar rounds on Thursday were Aazam-Zanganeh with an even-par 71, Lang with a three-under-par 68 and Pandolfi with a 74. As the Blue Devils headed out for the fi nal round, the weather got worse and the gallery was treated to rain, snow, hail and an occasional glimpse of sun. Duke didn t shoot its best score of the week but was able to hold on and claim its third NCAA title, while Grzebien turned in a 73 to win the NCAA Individual title by one stroke over Virginia s Leah Wigger. It was a day where Janangelo came through with her best round of the tournament as she fi nished with a 72 and Lang fi nished with a 71. These gals had something in the team that showed a lot of maturity and they pulled it together, said Brooks. We were most united all year at the very end when we needed it the most. Under these conditions, we had the patience we needed to win. With the victory coming in Brooks home state, it was a little extra special for the four-time National Coach of the Year. A lot of my family and friends were here, said Brooks. We had come out here in 2000 and really didn t have a good showing. A lot of the same people drove fi ve hours from my hometown to see us not play well. It means a lot to be with these great players, to do what they did, and have my family and friends be with me. It was fantastic. The championship was a total team effort as each player had at least one round counted during the four days of competition. For the season, Duke won nine tournaments and registered the most important victory in Sunriver. Brooks earned National Coach of the Year accolades for the fourth time and now owns 89 career victories, which is two shy of tying the NCAA all-time record of tournament wins. He battled media and others criticizing his decision to hold a roster of fi ve golfers the entire year but came out on top. Not one time throughout the entire year did I hear anyone say very much at all about the shorthanded thing, other than to joke about it, and how much the media asked about it, said Brooks. Not one time did anyone feel bad that we didn t have more players on our team. They had every right to feel bad about it. It made me realize that I ve got quite a group here National Champions Auburn, Wash. Washington National Golf Club Par 72, 6,273 Yards Duke 1st of 24 (1,164) Virada Nirapathpongporn =279 (-9, 1st) Leigh Anne Hardin =291 (+3, T13) Candy Hannemann =293 (+5, T22) Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh =304 (+16, T75) Kristina Engstrom =318 (+30, 116th) Totals =1,164 (+12) Coming off a second place fi nish at the 2001 NCAA Championship and losing only one starter off of a squad which won a school-record nine tournaments, the Duke women s golf team had its sights set on the ultimate goal: a second national championship. Before the season began, the Blue Devils were hit with adversity as the reigning NCAA Individual Champion, Candy Hannemann, was injured during the U.S. Amateur in August. The injury forced Hannemann to have surgery on her ankle in September, which sidelined the senior for the entire fall season. Duke was not short on talent as the Blue Devils returned two-time All-ACC selection Kristina Engstrom, 1999 ACC Individual Champion and All-America Maria Garcia-Estrada, All-America Virada Nirapathpongporn and All-ACC selection Leigh Anne Hardin. Along with the returners, Duke welcomed four-time Swiss Juniors and Ladies National Champion, Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh. The fall season was up and down without the Blue Devils leadership from Hannemann. Duke fi nished tied for 11th in The Preview to open the fall campaign and then turned in fi rst, third and fi fth place fi nishes to round out the fall. Engstrom was the only individual medalist of the fall with a three-day, career-best total of 219 at the Franklin Street Trust/Tar Heel Invitational. As a team during the fall, Duke shot below 300 in only four of the 11 rounds and fell back in the national rankings. All during this time, Hannemann was rehabbing her ankle and was getting ready to take the spring by storm. The fi rst spring tournament came on Feb at the Arizona Invitational and Hannemann was in the lineup. The tournament began with Duke posting rounds of 296 and 293 on the fi rst day to lead the competition. The Blue Devils came out on fi re on the second day to fi re a 287 and took home the title by seven strokes. Hannemann s debut was a little shaky on day one, but the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, native was back to her normal self on the second day leading Duke with a 69. Four Blue Devils shot 74 or better and the team score of 876 was 18 shots better than Duke s best fi nish in the fall. Finishing fi rst in the spring would become like clockwork for the Blue Devils. Duke notched a 12-stroke victory at the Lady Gamecock Classic and Aazam-Zanganeh notched her fi rst collegiate victory with a three-day total of 215. The Blue Devils then dominated the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic and the Bryan National Collegiate before heading into the postseason with a four-tournament win streak. At the ACC Championship, Duke accumulated some incredible numbers, winning by 29 strokes and recording an ACC Championship record score of 866. Hannemann became the fourth consecutive Blue Devil to claim individual medalist honors in the championship, while no other Duke player fi nished lower than tied for seventh Duke continued its dominance at the NCAA East Regional with scores of to win by 13 strokes. The 280 in the second round missed a Duke record by

SIX TIME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS one stroke, while Hardin fi red rounds of to win individual medalist honors. Heading into the NCAA Championship, the Blue Devils were the hottest team in the nation, as confi rmed by some of the impressive numbers Duke registered in the previous six tournaments: won six consecutive tournaments, shot no higher than 298 in the last nine rounds, had four individual medalists and boasted a spring stroke average by the golfers traveling to nationals. The Blue Devils headed to Auburn, Wash., for the NCAA Championship with a lot of confi dence. The fi ve golfers traveling to the Washington National Golf Club had all picked up individual medalist honors, a feat no other team in the nation had accomplished. After two practice rounds, Duke kicked off the tournament with a 294 and was tied for second, nine shots behind Arizona. Nirapathpongporn carded a 68 on day one to lead the individual competition by one stroke. On day two, the Blue Devils made up three strokes on fi rst round leader Arizona and owned sole possession of second place. Nirapathpongporn continued her charge towards individual medalist honors as she maintained her lead with a 69 on Wednesday. She was tied with Georgia s Summer Sirmons at seven-under-par heading into the third round. Duke s two-day total of 587 was six strokes off of Arizona (581) heading into Thursday s action. The Blue Devils were in second place, but the reigning NCAA Individual champion, Hannemann, was not playing her best with rounds of In the third round, the Blue Devils were once again able to make up three shots and sat three shots out of fi rst place heading into Friday s fi nal round. Arizona continued to lead the championship with an 874 as Texas (876) and Duke (877) were nipping at its heels. Nirapathpongporn was able to gain some distance in the individual competition with a 70 and was nine-under-par after three days. She had a three-shot lead with one round remaining. Hannemann started making her charge with an even-par 72 and Hardin posted her second consecutive round of even par or under with a 71. Everyone knew heading into the fi nal day of competition it was going to be a downto-the-wire fi nish and the fans were not to be disappointed. Duke and Arizona battled all day long, after Texas fell off early, with the championship coming down to the fi nal three holes. The Blue Devils were able to make up nine strokes on Arizona in those crucial three holes to take the title. The Blue Devils carded fi ve birdies on the last three holes and four on the last two while Arizona made six bogeys and one double bogey on its last three holes. Firing a birdie on hole 16 was Hannemann, on hole 17 were Hardin, Hannemann and Nirapathpongporn and on hole 18 was Aazam-Zanganeh. Duke captured the championship with a four-day total of 1,164, which was six strokes better than Arizona, Auburn and Texas. Auburn turned in a team-best 287 in the fi nal round and Texas rebounded from a slow start on Friday with a birdie on hole 18 to fi nish tied for second. Nirapathpongporn continued her stellar play with an even-par 72 in the fi nal round to claim the individual title with a NCAA record-tying total of 279. She won the title by fi ve strokes over four different players National Champions Tulsa, Okla. Tulsa Country Club Par 71, 6,202 Yards Duke 1st of 19 (895) Candy Hannemann =213 (E, 2nd) Kalen Anderson =226 (+13, T12th) Beth Bauer =227 (+14, T15th) Jenny Chuasiriporn =229 (+16, T24th) Filippa Hansson =247 (+34, T91st) Totals =895 (+43) The anticipation of winning a national championship began well before the start of the women s golf campaign. From the minute Duke wrapped up the 1998 NCAA Championships with a fourth-place fi nish, tying a school best, talk of a title was already brewing. Everyone knew who Duke had coming back from the 1998 team. Jenny Chuasiriporn, a two-time All-America and two-time ACC Player of the Year, was a rising senior. Kalen Anderson, who tied for ACC Rookie of the Year recognition, was set to begin her sophomore campaign. Rising senior Filippa Hansson and junior Amie Lehman had proven to be steady performers in head coach Dan Brooks starting lineup, while junior Anne Cardea and senior Amanda Loewen provided experienced depth to Duke s squad. Despite all that returned for , it was the incoming players who sparked the excitement. Freshmen Beth Bauer and Candy Hannemann were two of the most talented junior players in the country. Ranked No. 1 in the country by Golf Week and Golf Digest, Bauer was sure to have an immediate impact on the Duke lineup. The six-time AJGA All-America selection had won 16 career AJGA events and a total of 29 All-American tournaments. Hannemann didn t draw as much attention as Bauer, but the insiders knew what she could do for the program. She was the No. 4 ranked junior player and a three-time All-America. There was no doubt about her abilities. If the excitement about the upcoming season wasn t strong enough at the beginning of the summer, it certainly was rampant at the end of it. Chuasiriporn had gone from being a well-known player in the college ranks to a young golfer who captivated the world. Chuasiriporn entered the U.S. Open as an amateur and four days later drained a 40-foot birdie putt on the 18th green, the 72nd hole of the tournament, to force a dramatic 18-hole playoff for the title with LPGA star Se Ri Pak. Her expression after the putt fell was priceless, and it was captured and used on the front page of every newspaper s sports section. On the following day, Chuasiriporn and Pak moved on to a draw after 18 holes. The event then advanced to the fi rst sudden-death situation in the 53-year history of the tournament. Though Pak won on the second hole of sudden death, Chuasiriporn s youthful excitement and her amazing ability won the hearts of countless people around the world. Bauer and Hannemann joined Chuasiriporn in qualifying for the U.S. Open as amateurs. Bauer and Chuasiriporn were also members of the victorious Curtis Cup team, while Bauer defeated Chuasiriporn in head-to-head competition to take the 1998 North & South Amateur Championship. It was certainly a summer the Duke women s golf program will never forget. The championship was a total team effort as each player had at least one round counted during the four days of competition. For the season, Duke won eight tournaments and a school-record seven in a row to conclude the season. It was how the team handled adversity while trailing the entire NCAA Championship that everyone will remember about this special Blue Devil squad. The experience will live with them for the rest of their golfi ng careers As the media attention over Chuasiriporn s U.S. Open accomplishment began to die down, Brooks and his Blue Devils were fi nally ready to start their quest. Ranked No. 1 in the preseason polls and the favorite to win the national championship, Duke went to work. It didn t take long for the Blue Devils to strike. In the fi rst tournament of the year, Duke showed how lethal it could be in winning the event by a 36-stroke margin.

SIX TIME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS Hannemann promptly went out and won her fi rst collegiate tournament. Altogether, six Blue Devils fi nished in the top 10, including Anderson and Hansson who were both playing as individuals. Duke followed that win up with three more victories to begin the year. The Blue Devils secured the title at the Bama Fall Preview in Tulsa, site of the 1999 NCAA Championship and an event that featured the top teams in the country. The squad continued its winning ways, earning the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate title for the second straight year and the Rolex Match Play. In the fi nal event of the fall season, Duke fi nished third at the Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate. But that was without the services of Chuasiriporn and Hannemann as Chuasiriporn was competing for the United States and Hannemann for Brazil in the World Amateur held in Santiago, Chile. Chuasiriporn went on to fi re the lowest three-day total in the event s history in leading the U.S. to a record-setting team win. It was a moment that head coach Dan Brooks had been working toward for 15 years. He was named ACC, District and National Coach of the Year. Bauer and Chuasiriporn were fi rst-team All-America selections and Co-ACC Players of the Year. Bauer was both the National and ACC Freshman of the Year. Four Blue Devils were named to the All-ACC squad. Duke won a then school-record eight tournaments, breaking the previous record of fi ve set during the campaign. But it was how the team took care of business that will be remembered. Starting the year ranked No. 1, handling the pressure that builds on such a talented team to win the national championship, and then fi nally reaching that ultimate goal of fi nishing as the top team in the country will stand as this team s greatest achievement. After recording a fourth-place fi nish in the spring s fi rst event, the Arizona Invitational, Duke rebounded to win the LSU/Fairwood Invitational and then the Lady Gamecock. Chuasiriporn secured the individual title at the Lady Gamecock, the seventh medalist honor of her career. The Blue Devils fi nished second at the next event, the Arizona State/Ping Invitational, before Beth Bauer led Duke to its fourth straight ACC Championship by earning individual medalist accolades. Bauer collected a tie for fi rst at the NCAA East Regional, despite a disappointing team fi nish of fourth. Still, the Blue Devils had reached the NCAA Championships for the 10th time under the direction of Brooks and the 12th time in school history. Back to Tulsa the team went after what had been a whirlwind year. In the fi rst round of the NCAAs, the Blue Devils fi red the tournament s lowest round with a four-over-par 288 performance. That opening day gave the Blue Devils the cushion they needed as Hannemann collected an even-par 71, Bauer and Chuasiriporn followed with a 72 and Anderson fi red a 73. With a 12-stroke lead over Arizona State, Duke came back to the pack after the second round. Pepperdine had pulled within six strokes and Georgia was seven strokes behind the Blue Devils. Hannemann again played well, shooting a 72, while Anderson gave the team a 76. But Chuasiriporn and Bauer fi red uncharacteristic rounds of 79 and 82, respectively. With Duke still holding the lead and Hannemann one stroke off the individual race, the Blue Devils bounced back with a team score of 298 in the third round. That gave Duke an eight-stroke lead over Georgia and Arizona State heading into the fi nal day. Hannemann s one-under-par 70 kept her in the hunt for the individual national title as she remained one-stroke behind Arizona State s Grace Park. Understanding that eight strokes isn t much to make up in a team golf tournament, Duke knew it couldn t coast to the NCAA Championship. Arizona State and Georgia were two of the top teams in the country, and Arizona State had the experience of winning fi ve of the last six national titles. As Georgia drifted out of contention, Duke battled with Arizona State. The Blue Devils remained in the lead and Hannemann was still one stroke back of Park on the back nine when the horn was blown to clear the course for bad weather. The storm that hit brought severe wind, rain and hail that in the end forced the NCAA committee to call off the remainder of the fi nal round. With that decision made and a rule in place that allowed for no extra rain days, the results then went back to the standings after three rounds. The Blue Devils had won the school s fi rst NCAA Championship for a women s sport and the fourth overall at Duke. Park was awarded the individual title, with Hannemann becoming the second Duke golfer to be the runner-up in this event

HEAD COACH DAN BROOKS Dan Brooks Head Coach 33rd Season Oregon State, 81 Duke women s golf head coach Dan Brooks knows what it takes to make it to the pinnacle of a collegiate sport. In 32 years as the coach of the Duke Blue Devils, he has helped guide his squads to six NCAA National Championships, 18 ACC Championships and 125 team victories, which is the most of any women s golf coach in Division I history. In , all the hard work paid off as Duke secured the NCAA Championship, the fi rst title for any Blue Devil women s program in school history and the fourth overall. Duke withstood the high expectations of being ranked No. 1 in the country during the preseason, fought off the pressure of sporting the top ranking for most of the year and fi nished by holding the lead from start to fi nish at the NCAA Championship in Tulsa, Okla. It was one of the greatest seasons for any sport in school history. In , Brooks once again claimed the NCAA Championship in Auburn, Wash., as his Blue Devils fought off adversity in the fall without senior All-America and reigning NCAA Individual Champion Candy Hannemann. The Blue Devils struggled, winning only one of four tournaments, but rebounded in the spring with Hannemann back in the lineup to win all seven tournaments they played. Duke headed to the championship as the hottest team in golf. The Blue Devils hung in the top four during the entire tournament and made up nine strokes in the last three holes of the fi nal round to capture the title by six strokes. In , Brooks headed to his home state of Oregon for the second time as a head coach to lead the Blue Devils at the 2005 NCAA Championship. With approximately 30 family and friends in attendance, Brooks kept the Blue Devils at striking distance the fi rst two days and on the third day Duke came alive on the back nine, sinking 15 birdies on its way to shooting 11-under-par over the fi nal nine holes. The back nine led Duke to a six-under-par score and an eight-stroke lead over Auburn, after going into the day with a nine-stroke defi cit to the Tigers. Leading the Duke charge was sophomore Anna Grzebien with a tournament-best round of 65 and Brittany Lang with a three-under-par 68. Grzebien catapulted to the individual lead by four strokes with 18 holes remaining. Grzebien and Duke hung on for a fi ve-stroke team victory and one-stroke individual win in the fi nal round. In 2006, the Blue Devils were once again ranked No. 1 in the preseason and went on to be atop the polls for the entire season, but when it came time for the NCAA Championship, the Blue Devils were not considered the favorite by many in the media contingent. After the fi rst two days, Duke was in second place and only three shots off the lead, but for the second straight year the third round was moving day for the Blue Devils. Duke went on to shoot a team-best one-under-par, 287, and went on to take a 13-stroke lead going into the fi nal day. The Blue Devils would go on to win the title by an amazing 10 strokes and earned back-to-back championships for the fi rst time in women s golf since 1997 and In 2007, Brooks guided Duke to an amazing fi fth NCAA title and its third straight NCAA crown. The Blue Devils became only the second team to win three straight titles since ASU accomplished the feat from Duke headed to the championship as the second ranked team in the nation and trailed by eight strokes after day one. The Blue Devils made their run in the second round fi ring a one-under-par total of 287 and led by seven strokes after 36 holes of play. Duke would never trail the rest of the way and won its fi fth NCAA Championship by an astonishing 15 strokes. After winning his third straight National Championship, Brooks was awarded the 2007 NGCA National Coach of the Year, marking the fi fth time he had received national recognition. Heading back to Tulsa, Okla., for the fi rst time since claiming his fi rst NCAA Championship, Brooks and the Blue Devils were able to make it a perfect 2-for-2 as Duke claimed its sixth NCAA Championship in with a two stroke win over Southern California at the Tulsa Country Club. Duke opened the tournament in third place and was in second following 36 holes. The Blue Devils carded an even-par, 278, in the third round on their way to opening a six-stroke lead with 18 holes remaining. On the fi nal day, Southern California made its charge and was 10-under-par at one point. The Trojans would open a four-stroke lead on the back nine, but Duke played the fi nal nine holes at six-under to win the title. Sophomore Celine Boutier placed second overall with a four-under, 276. For the sixth time in his 32 years, Brooks was awarded the WGCA National Coach of the Year award as the Blue Devils won a total of fi ve titles on the year. Developing consistency has been a trademark for the Duke program, just as Brooks, a six-time National Coach of the Year, has his own trademark of being an excellent teacher of the game. Looking to win their seventh title, the Blue Devils return four starters off last year s squad, including 2015 National Player of the Year Leona Maguire and 2016 NCAA Individual Champion Virginia Elena Carta.
