There will be no more food service at the pool after September 1st as well as any guard service. How long the pool remains open will depend on chemical inventory and of course the weather. Historically we look at winterizing the pool by mid September. Also keep in mind lunch service on the weekends ends with the pool service and we will once again suspend Monday through Friday lunches in the dining room as of September 26th. Our card players are still welcome to use the Lodge for their games and soft drinks can be purchased in the Pro Shop. ELKS BULLETIN September, 2, 2014 PUBLISHED MONTHLY Secretary's Report The following were elected into membership in Lodge 590 at the 8/18/14 meeting: Adam Sutherland Samantha Danielson John Patchett Christopher Wise The following were proposed for regular membership in Lodge 590 at the 8/14/14 meeting: Joseph Boyle by Ted Welter Jeremy Burrus by Amy Pretorius Marc Reyhons Mark Moody Tom Robinson Dianne Irving John Dasher by Alan Swanson Remember we will still be serving dinner every Wednesday and Friday evening all year long. Keep your Lodge in mind when making your dinner plans. FIRST LODGE MEETING IN SEPTEMBER WILL BE HELD MONDAY THE 9TH DUE TO THE LABOR DAY HOLIDAY GOLF OUTINGS In addition to the events listed in the golf Committee notes, the course will be used from 8 AM to 4 PM on Tuesday September 9th and Thursday September 11th for the National Veterans Tee Tournament. This annual event brings disabled veterans from all over the country to our area to play golf, canoe and do several other recreational activities. They will play nine holes at 8 AM and then lunch in the Lodge and return to course for another nine. Anyone interested in volunteering to help the participants on the course can call Kart Sickles at U of I Veterans hospital

2 GAME WATCH Join us Saturday September 27th in the pro shop at 11 AM for the Iowa vs. Purdue football game. We will offer $3 Bloody Marys and screwdrivers, $1.50 draft beer, $2 cans and $3 house wine. Please bring a snack to share as we cheer the Hawkeyes on to another victory. Golf Committee Notes September/October tournaments- Tuesday, September 2 - Women's Super Tuesday event. Last one of the season, get out and play! Sunday, September 21 - Shamble Team event, open to men golf members. Take a break from watching football, you've got all winter for that. Saturday, October 4 - Chili Open, this team event is open to all Elk members. Saturday, October 21-8-inch Cup Event. Last one of season, this is a team event open to all Elk members. Hole #9 Project Project has been approved by Board. Restoration of greenside bunkers, lower tee-box and right-side approach area will have begun by the time you receive this bulletin. The work is being paid for by Year 2014 fundraising efforts. Tree Project In September, three new trees will be planted between number 2 and 6 holes and additional six will be planted along the boundary fence along number 2 hole. Three dead oak trees between number 6 and 7 holes are to be removed this fall. Flood Damage Status Areas around number 2 green and number 5 teebox have been reseeded and marked as groundunder-repair. The back two tees on number 5 will remain closed for the balance of the golf season. August Event Results Congratulations to Norby Jordan, our Year 2014 Men's Senior Champion. And congratulations to captains Smutz and Kron who led their Gray team to an Elks' Cup victory over Blue team captained by Sharp and Kimmerling.
