2 Member Games Friday Skins and Kickers Game The Friday member s game is open to all members and their guests who are playing on Fridays between 12:00 PM to 1:36 PM. This is a great way to connect with other members and win some pro shop credit or cash at the same time. Simply sign up to play in the pro shop. Starting Friday June 23rd. Format: Individual Stroke Play $20 entry fee Prizes: pro shop credit Only gross birdies or eagles can be a skin, no pars Greenies on all par 3s Individual Low Net score Kickers: Before the round, the player picks a handicap that he or she feels will give them a net score between After everyone tees off, the golf shop picks a number between If your net score matches the number you win Pay outs are pro shop credit only Tuesday Twilight 9-Hole League The Twilight League was created to offer members the opportunity to participate in weekly golf competitions, meet other members and to become part of the Great River Golf Club community. Sign up with a partner or we can help you find a partner. This fun competition will be every Tuesday starting June 20th and ending Aug 1st at 4:00 PM with happy hour at the member s grill after your match. Sign up to play in the pro shop. Format: Nine Hole Match Play with two person teams Each week will feature a different format Matches are played using HDC Teams will accumulate points each week for winning their match Prizes: Awards will be given to top finishing teams at the end of the season.

3 Letter From The Superintendent With the passing of Memorial Day and the beginning of June, we finally usher in the golf season. Though it has been a rain filled spring, we have finished the #9 pond/driving range renovations. We are happy with the successful establishment of the sod, as well as the turfs response in preparation for optimal mowing heights and playability. A few additional applications of sand topdressing and rolling to the low-cut areas and we will achieve our goal for the remainder of the season. As you may have noticed, we have cut down the naturalized fescue areas to treat for weeds and invasive grasses. Please be mindful, that as these areas begin to grow tall for the season, we will do our best to keep cart traffic out of these areas to ensure their pure aesthetic value. Regarding overall course playability, we are in the process of finalizing our cultural programs that will primarily focus on consistency of performance to all turf surfaces. We are implementing a very light and frequent topdressing program to greens. This program will help to maintain smooth/firm putting surfaces, with no disturbance to playing conditions. Daily divot repair by our crew will speed up recovery and prevent players from having an unfavorable lie. We are very excited for the opportunity to work at Great River Golf Club. I look forward to meeting everyone and helping you to continue to enjoy this wonderful club. We plan to do our very best to keep the tradition moving forward, while creating a culture of success toward the future vision of this amazing property. Lastly, we have reached out to Tom Fazio II (GR s original architect) and are pleased to announce that he will be onsite June 15th and 16th to tour the course and make some recommendations. 4 Pro Shop News The 2017 season is in full swing and the shop is completely stocked with new apparel, footwear, clubs, balls and gloves. Please let the shop staff know you re a member so we can extend the member discount on all apparel and accessories. We have 90 new members this year. With the increase in membership we need your help letting the shop staff know your last name and if you will be taking a cart. New Collections for the 2017 Season: Sacred Heart University Shop is fully stocked with men s and ladies Under Armour apparel. Holderness and Bourne -This line is designed and manufactured by two young gentlemen from Yale University. Most of their line is made is the USA. The apparel is very high quality and traditionally styled. Aptus - Is a new Athletic fit line with tech fabrics, produced by The Loden Group. Travis Mathew - A very popular West Coast line known for their comfortable fabrics. Fairway & Greene - Featuring a made in America tech collection with the American flag on all styles. Under Armour Footwear - Worn by Jordan Spieth. New Deliveries for June and July: Johnnie O - Designed by the actor Chris O Donnell and his brother. Tag line for this line is West Coast Prep. 5 Outside Operations Course and Driving Range Carts are due in at 8:00 PM Range will close at 6:30 PM (Monday-Sunday) Hitting surfaces at the range will follow the same schedule as last year: mats Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, grass tees on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Grass tee on Wednesday will be on the front tee box and will be irons only. Bag Tags and Locker Plates Bag Tags have been received and placed on bags that are stored at Great River. If you have not received your bag tag please see the Pro Shop or a member of the Outside Staff. Name plates have been installed on member s lockers. If for some reason there is a problem with your nameplate, please see Ed. Course Maintenance and Snack Bar To facilitate the preparation and delivery of food on the course please use the call box located on the 8th tee. To maintain optimum course conditions, we ask that all players use the divot mix provided on our carts. Great River pull carts have divot bottles attached, please see one of our staff attendants if any help is needed regarding this.

8 Tom s Tips - The Perfect Shoulder Turn The backswing shoulder turn is one essential key to making a good down swing motion. Players that suffer from an outside in plane and many other swing problems are many times the direct result of a poor pivot or shoulder turn. The shoulder turn entails much more than one may think. Let s examine 4 major points of the shoulder turn: 1. All swings start with the front shoulder moving across the chest. (See Figure 1) 2. The front shoulder works slightly down and the back shoulder works slightly up. (See Figure 2) 3. The shoulders reach a 90-degree position at the top of swing. Your arms should stop swinging at this point. (See Figure 3) 4. When at 90 degrees the shoulders are turned behind the ball over the inside of the back knee. This is the top of the swing. (See Figure 3) If you cannot get into this position because of lack of strength and flexibility it s important to improve your mobility through stretching exercises. A basic stretching program will be sufficient in getting your body to start moving correctly. If you can t seem to conquer the shoulder turn, call your local PGA professional which would be me.
